BBC Radio 2 return for Zoe Ball just five months after shock exit

Yahoo03-05-2025
Zoe Ball is making a return to BBC Radio 2 - just five months after she quit her flagship Breakfast Show.
During her final show, Robbie Williams teased it was "not the end" for Zoe, although she was quick to deny his statement.
But it seems the Let Me Entertain you hitmaker was right, as Zoe will be back on the airwaves today (Saturday, May 3).
According to BBC bosses, Zoe's 1pm show will be packed with "the best songs and chat for a Saturday".
Zoe has also told listeners to expect "lots of laughs" and her favourite upbeat hits, The Express reports.

Helen Thomas, head of Radio 2, shared the news in February and said: "Zoe is one of the UK's most loved presenters, so I'm thrilled to announce that she has a new home on Radio 2 on Saturday lunchtimes, plus she'll be hosting various specials for us throughout the year."
When Zoe's exit was announced, a source said: "Zoe loved being on air, but she was never going to be a Wogan who lived and breathed the breakfast show for 27 years.
"The 4am wake-up calls and missing Woody and Nelly in the mornings took their toll quite early on. She had been thinking about leaving for a while.
"The BBC had to work hard to persuade her to stay on in her last contract negotiation a couple of years ago."
Her decision was backed by her son Woody, who took to social media to brand her previous wake up times "crazy".
The 23-year-old DJ and reality star said: "Well done, Mama, on a fabulous stint on Radio 2!
"Here's to more time at home! Excuse the whole family pic can't find enough crackers with @zoetheball. YOU ARE AMAZING. 4AM is a crazy time to get up!"
As well as predicting her return on her final BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show, Robbie Williams also left Zoe fighting back tears as he told her: "I just want to say thank you for your services so far to the entertainment world, to BBC Radio 2, to have all that have gone before you and will come after you.
"But for you in particular, the transformative thing that you do and the kindness that you exude is important, and has been important, and will be important to people's lives, so congrats to you."
Zoe was replaced by Scott Mills as host of the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show.

Mariah Carey Just Learned Katy Perry Went to Space Months Ago & Has the Perfect Response

Mariah Carey might be a star, but she has no interest in going to space — even if Katy Perry recently did, not that Mimi had heard anything about it. In a memorable moment from her interview with BBC Radio 2 posted Thursday (Aug. 7), Carey learns for the very first time that Perry was part of Blue Origin's first-ever all-female trip past the Earth's atmosphere, despite the event being all over the news in April. 'Did she go to space? Where'd she go?' the Songbird Supreme asks after the interviewer brings it up. Carey continues in her characteristically reserved manner. 'She's like, floating in the … And this is true? Wow. All right, Katy. I'm not mad at her, that's pretty amazing.' When asked whether she'd ever take a trip to the stars, Carey had a hilariously snarky response. 'I think I've done enough,' she said simply. Though Mimi missed it, Perry's journey to space was widely publicized this past spring. She was one of several women who flew approximately 62 miles above Earth on a rocket trip organized by Jeff Bezos' space tech company, riding the line between the atmosphere and outer space before coming back down after about 10 minutes. The expedition was also widely criticized at the time, with some people calling it a waste of resources. Perry, however, described it as an empowering step forward for women, telling press shortly after she touched down, 'It's about making space for future women and taking up space and belonging … this is all for the benefit of Earth.' Keeping her feet planted firmly on the ground, Carey is more focused on blasting off on a new album era as opposed to in a rocket ship. The star will release Here for It All in September, following singles 'Type Dangerous' and 'Sugar Sweet' featuring Kehlani and Shenseea. Watch Carey learn about Perry's space adventure below. Mariah Carey Just Learned Katy Perry Went to Space & Her Reaction Is Everything

Mariah Carey has always been iconic, but her recent comment about Katy Perry's Blue Origin space flight might take the cake. You see, she had no clue the 'Firework' singer even went to space. On the Scott Mills Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2 on Aug. 7, Carey was asked by host Scott Mills whether she would 'fancy going to space like Katy Perry did.' This was when the conversation went awry quickly. More from SheKnows Insiders Claim Orlando Bloom Is 'Feeling the Burn' Amid Ex Katy Perry's Reported New Romance Wearing oversized dark sunglasses, Carey looked confused, responding, 'Did she go to space?' 'Not for long,' Mills said 'Where'd she go?' Carey continued as an off-camera crew member discussed Perry's journey. 'Into orbit and back,' they added. 'She's like floating in the…' Carey said, looking rather perplexed. 'And this is true?' 'I've not made this up,' Mills said sincerely. 'This is true… she was proper in space.' 'Wow. Alright, Katy,' Carey said nonchalantly. 'I'm not mad at her. That's pretty amazing.' Mills joked that Perry 'has not stopped talking about it since' and was curious if Carey would be interested in hopping about Jeff Bezos' space craft. And that's when Carey pulled the ultimate quip. She said, 'I think I've done enough.' Carey knows better than to go up into space for 11 minutes, even if she didn't hear about the controversial New Shepard mission. Yet Perry and her crewmates, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyễn, Gayle King, Kerianne Flynn, and Lauren Sánchez, heard weeks of criticism because the flight seemed like a wealthy privilege in an era when many people are struggling. Perry reportedly enjoyed the mission, but she did have some regrets in the aftermath, per the Daily Mail. 'Katy doesn't regret going to space. It was life-changing,' an insider told the media outlet. 'What she does regret is making a public spectacle out of it.' Perry went all-out while she was floating in space, sharing her set list for her Lifetimes Tour on a butterfly, honoring her four-year-old daughter Daisy with a flower, and kissing the ground after the quick jaunt. Carey may have missed all of the fuss in April, but she's going to keep her feet firmly grounded on planet Earth. Before you go, click for more documentaries about strong women in music. Vernon Kay hits back ‘how stupid do you think I am' after Tess Daly question

Radio presenter Vernon Kay joked 'how stupid do you think I am' when discussing a segment on his show about people who give their partners the 'ick'. Co-star Tina Daheley posed the question after reading the news on Vernon's BBC Radio 2 show yesterday (Friday, August 8). Vernon's co-star tried to explain the concept of the 'ick' by describing it as bad habits that "drive you mad". Examples included not putting the toilet seat down, eating loudly, laughing at your own jokes and the way they talk to their mum. He said: "How stupid do you think I am? Behave yourself. I'm full of a cold. I've got the flu. I've got a bit icky myself. "I'm looking forward to a nice quiet weekend. I don't want to have a nice, quiet weekend on my own." Tina quickly clarified that she was asking if Tess has any 'icks' about him, with Vernon retorting: "Oh, there's loads." Vernon, 51, and Tess, 56, tied the knot in 2003. They share daughters Phoebe, 20, and 15-year-old Amber. It comes after the TV and radio star admitted he was mocked by staff in a supermarket over a "senior moment" as he was almost "done for thieving'. He was doing some shopping in an unnamed supermarket earlier this week when he was shocked to realise he had not paid for his food. Fortunately for Vernon he had only just left the store and was able to return and sheepishly apologise for his transgression. Vernon told the story on his radio show: 'I had a senior moment this morning, it could have got me into trouble. I went to a very famous supermarket which is in Marylebone Station and I scanned my food, walked out. 'I went, 'Ah!' Could have been horrendous, could have been absolutely horrendous and the lady, when I walked back, she was just absolutely laughing her head off. She went, 'I saw you, didn't say anything because I knew you'd realise'. 'It was so funny, imagine that, shocking, but it was one of those things where I just scanned my food and wondered off, didn't even think about it because I thought I'd tapped, I hadn't. You know you're old when you get done for thieving.' Vernon got his big television break as a presenter on T4 back in 2000. His other major credits include All Star Family Fortunes and as a co-presenter on the short-lived reality TV show Splash! He also came third in season 20 of I'm A Celebrity.... Get Me Out of Here! The series, held in Wales rather than the Australian jungle due to Covid-19, saw podcaster Giovanna Fletcher win with Radio 1 presenter Jordan North finishing runner-up.
