'It's been blown out of proportion': Love Island's Lauren responds to Harrison being called out by Women's Aid
Speaking to Cosmopolitan UK after leaving the Villa last week, Lauren was asked how she felt about the charity's statement, to which she responded: "I think it was blown out of proportion. He's made a mistake, but everyone makes mistakes, like he's gone about it in the wrong way. He knows he's done wrong."
She then added: "I think it was just the timing of everything. But like he said, he's not a bad person. Everyone in the Villa knows that and that's why it upset me the whole situation so much because I knew deep down he never meant it in a malicious way. He would never want to hurt someone, he just unfortunately didn't communicate with me how he felt and it's a shame he's been portrayed in this way, because that's just not him. And obviously for his family to see that it's just not nice when they know him properly, know that that isn't him as a person."
She concluded: 'And with it being only an hour, we've not watched it back, we don't know what has actually been shown to get all of this. They see one hour a day.'
Last week Women's Aid issued a statement to The Tab, in which they called out the men's behaviour on Love Island. The statement was shared after an episode aired in which Harrison slept with Lauren, and then the next day told fellow Islander Toni he still had feelings for her and suggested she chose him at the next recoupling, without telling Toni he had slept with Lauren. After Toni did make her decision, Lauren was upset and seen in tears on the show.
Following this episode Women's Aid said: "In recent years, Love Island and other forms of reality TV have been repeatedly called out by viewers for allowing in contestants that had a history of abusive, coercive and manipulative behaviour in previous relationships. As a result, production companies have been more careful when it comes to selecting contestants and calling out toxic behaviours when we see them.
'Despite these positive steps, we still see unhealthy patterns of behaviour on these shows, showing just how steeped in misogyny and sexism our society still is. Women are often lied to, slut-shamed and manipulated, as well as laughed at behind their backs. Misogyny and sexism lay the foundation for the tolerance of abuse and violence – it reinforces a culture that excuses and trivialises violence against women and girls. More must be done to educate contestants on sexism and misogyny, and it is a great credit to viewers who take to social media, continuing to call out these behaviours as soon as they see them.'
Harrison has since responded to the above statement, while in an interview with the Daily Mail. He said reading the charity's comment "wasn't nice" and that he does "respect women."
He told the publication: "I have seen the backlash and it's hard to digest. I would disagree with a lot of it in terms of my respect for women, I do respect women.
"The worst has been from Women's Aid. I know myself and the girls on the show too, Toni said she knows I'm not a bad person, just went about situations in the wrong way, but the Women's Aid statement wasn't nice... it's not nice coming out of the villa to my mum upset by that so I would say that's been the hardest."
Harrison then did acknowledged his behaviour and apologised to the women he had hurt and added: "I got it wrong and the back and forth between the two connections caused more harm than I ever intended.
"It wasn't ever an ego thing. I am not proud of how I handled things and I'm not going to make excuses. I just want to own it. If people can give me the space to grow from it, I will do everything I can to be better and that's the only thing I can do.
"There is no handbook for how to be on a show like Love Island. It's instincts and intentions. I got some of it right, but I know I got a lot of it wrong, and I know that now."
Last week Lauren was dumped from the Villa, after new bombshell Angel chose to couple up with Ty, which left Lauren single. She then asked Harrison (who was still technically in a couple with Toni) to leave with him. He debated over packing his bag and 24 hours after Lauren had left the Villa, he told his fellow Islanders he was quitting the Villa and wanted to pursue things with Lauren in the outside world.
Since their exits last week, Harrison and Lauren have been reunited and appeared to barely spend a moment apart.

What's going on with JaNa and Kenny from 'Love Island?' Fans parse following lists for clues
The "Love Island USA" fandom is in a desperate search for answers about one of their favorite couples. Social media users are speculating about a possible rift in the beloved Season 6 cast after JaNa Craig appeared to remove almost all of her content with boyfriend Kenny Rodriguez from her Instagram grid on July 27. Not only that, but Instagram accounts for her fellow PPG (the self-appointed Power Puff Gang) members Leah Kateb and Serena Page, and their respective partners, Miguel Harichi and Kordell Beckham, have all appeared to unfollow Rodriguez. Most of the cast of their Peacock spinoff show "Love Island: Beyond the Villa," currently in its first season, are also not following Rodriguez. None of the cast members have publicly commented on the apparent rift. The comments sections for Craig's past posts have also been limited. USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Craig and Rodriguez for comment. Peacock did not respond to a request for comment. Finalists from "Love Island USA's" breakout season last year, Craig, 28, and Rodriguez, 25, have been in a relationship since leaving the villa in July 2024. They confirmed their relationship status in the Season 6 reunion, which dropped the following month. 'They're very toxic': Why Kaylor Martin won't watch 'Beyond the Villa' On Peacock's "Love Island" spinoff, Rodriguez and Craig are navigating their relationship while living in close quarters for the first time in Los Angeles. Fan accounts and close watchers of reality TV-related drama rang the alarm on a possible uncoupling on July 27, which prompted a close watch of other "Beyond the Villa" cast members' social media accounts. "Red alert ring the alarm," journalist Christina Cocca wrote alongside a post with screenshots of Craig's Instagram. Kenny and JaNa previously said communication was their strength While speaking with USA TODAY in separate interviews on July 8, Rodriguez and Craig opened up about navigating a relationship that is also intertwined with their careers as influencers. "We're very communicative when it comes to those things: what we feel comfortable putting out there (and) what we don't. And I think that's just the sign of a healthy relationship," Rodriguez said. Craig, seated with Page on one side and Kateb on the other, admitted that it has worked best to keep some things for themselves when fans demand more couples' content. "I feel like your relationship is very private. You know, just you and your partner communicating 24/7," Craig said. "Whereas publicly it's like putting yourself out there, understanding what your viewers and your supporters want and navigating through that and whatever you're comfortable with."

Love Island spoiler: Cach's family call Toni out during Villa visit
It's the last week in the Love Island Villa, and that means one thing, and one thing only - it's the visit from the families, and this year's one was one for the memory books, with Cach's family not shying away from their feelings about Toni in one very awkward conversation. Half-way into the episode the Islanders got a big surprise when their families and friends entered the Villa. Toni's mum Leslie and her best friend Marielle were the first to enter, alongside Cach's brother and sister D'Shae and Ayjah. While Toni's mum was full of praise for Cach, Cach's brother and sister were less than keen on Toni. The siblings sat down with Cach around the fire-pit and spoke to him about his journey in the Villa, including the moment in which Toni chose to recouple with Harrison and left Cach blindsided. They began by first telling their brother how proud they were of him, his sister Ayjah then asked how Cach actually felt about Toni, to which he replied: "I feel happy with her. Obviously we went through that blip with [Harrison]." Ayjah then said Toni could have mentioned something about the moment in which she and Harrison went on the terrace for a sneaky rendezvous. She then added: "She didn't say Jack, not even Jill," when speaking about Toni's lack of admission of what happened on the terrace. The siblings then applauded their brother for the moment in which he later cried on the terrace following the recoupling in which Toni chose Harrison. Ayjah then asked Cach if he could see his relationship with Toni working on the outside, to which he replied: "On the outside it will be difficult because she doesn't live in the ends." Cach then went to catch up to with Toni's mum and Toni sat with Cach's brother and sister, and the sit down was pretty awkward. Toni started by saying how excited her mum was to meet Cach, and when D'Shea and Ayjah didn't respond, Toni then jokingly said: "You're going to yell at me," which the siblings denied. Toni's friend Marielle then asked them how they had found watching the series and they admitted they had found the Harrison and Toni situation difficult. Ayjah added that it was obvious Toni knew she "made the wrong decision". Toni then admitted she wished she knew the "whole story" about Harrison. Toni then asked if the pair were mad at her, to which Ayjah replied: "You're cool, you're a good person. Just the communication girl." D'Shea added: "You're cool." Cach and Toni's mum then rejoined the conversation and Toni asked Cach's siblings what they wanted to know more about her. After an awkward silence Ayjah said: "Nothing really to be fair." She then added: "It was just why? You knew it was wrong, but fair play." The conversation then moved onto if Toni would move to London, and she said: "People do crazy things for love", at which point Ayjah jokingly mimed a vomiting moment. The group then went to meet up with the rest of the Islanders. Let's just hope their next meeting goes a little bit more smoothly. Love Island continues on ITV2 and ITVX
