An all-party Indian parliamentary delegation led by BJP MP Baijayant Jay Panda arrived in Kuwait on Monday to highlight India's zero-tolerance stance against terrorism.
The delegation arrived here from Bahrain.
"The All-Party delegation led by @PandaJay arrived in Kuwait carrying India's resolute message of #ZeroTolerance and #NewNormal against terrorism to be highlighted in its engagements in Kuwait," Embassy of India, Kuwait posted on X.
Indian Ambassador Adarsh Swaika received the delegation at the airport.
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen leader Asaduddin Owaisi, former Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, ex-National chairperson of the National Commission for Women and Rajya Sabha MP Rekha Sharma, and Harsh Vardhan Shringla, former foreign secretary, former Ambassador to the United States, Bangladesh & Thailand, are some other members of the delegation.
During their stay in Kuwait, the delegation will interact with senior dignitaries from the Kuwaiti government, prominent members of civil society, influencers, think tanks, media and a cross-section of the Indian diaspora.
The delegation earlier visited Bahrain and briefed Bahrain's Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa about the challenge of cross-border terrorism facing India and New Delhi's firm resolve to combat it.
It also met Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, the chairman of Shura Bahrain, the upper house of the legislative body of Bahrain and underscored India's resolve to fight against terrorism and strengthen bilateral ties.
As part of India's diplomatic outreach, seven multi-party delegations are travelling to 33 global capitals to reach out to the international community on Pakistan's designs and India's response to terror, especially in view of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people dead.
Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after the Pahalgam attack.
India carried out precision strikes as part of Operation Sindoor on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in the early hours of May 7, following which Pakistan attempted to attack Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10. The Indian side responded strongly to the Pakistani actions.
The on-ground hostilities ended with an understanding of stopping the military actions following talks between the directors general of military operations of both sides on May 10.

‘Quota anomalies' in 69K teachers' recruitment in UP: Candidates protest outside minister's place

Alleging reservation scam in 19,000 posts in 69,000 assistant teacher recruitment, a large number of candidates from reserved categories staged a protest outside basic education minister Sandeep Singh's residence at Mall Avenue here on Monday. Policemen taking away one of the protestors in Lucknow on August 18. (HT photo) From there, police sent them to Eco Garden in vehicles. The education directorate at Nishatganj was turned into a fortress in the wake of the protest. 'We have not yet got justice in this recruitment,' the protesters claimed. They said if the government does not take the initiative for hearing in the Supreme Court and keeps getting dates after dates from the apex court, they will stage sit-in protests every day in Lucknow and also gherao the residences of BJP leaders. Talks were held with additional chief secretary, basic education, Deepak Kumar, on the issue but nothing came out of it, said one of the protesters Dhananjay Gupta. On the call of Pichda Dalit Samyukta Morcha's state president Sushil Kashyap and state patron Bhaskar Singh, the 'aggrieved' candidates claimed to have sent hundreds of letters to the Chief Justice of India in which it was, as per the protestors, clearly stated that for the last 12 months the plaint of the candidates was not being heard in the Supreme Court and dates were being given one after the other due to which they were very upset. The protesters said in such a situation, the apex court should start hearing their case so that they can get justice. Sushil Kashyap and Bhaskar Singh alleged that in the said recruitment, OBC category has been given only 3.86% reservation instead of 27%, SC category has been given only 16.2% reservation instead of 21% and thus in this recruitment, Basic Education Rules 1981 and Reservation Rules 1994 have been violated. They also alleged that the original selection of this recruitment was not being made public for the last 5 years despite the order of a division bench of the Allahabad high court issued on August 13. 2024, 'which shows that there has been a huge reservation scam in the said recruitment'. Basic education department officials said the matter was pending in the court and they will abide by the order of the Supreme Court.

Shubhanshu Shukla meets PM Modi; gifts tri-colour that travelled to space

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (August 18, 2025) met Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, who became the first Indian astronaut to travel to the International Space Station (ISS). Mr. Shukla, who was part of the Axiom-4 commercial mission to the ISS from June 25-July 15, met the Prime Minister at his Lok Kalyan Marg residence. Mr. Modi welcomed Mr. Shukla, who was wearing an ISRO astronaut's jacket, with a warm hug and walked with him with his arm on the astronaut's shoulder. Mr. Shukla gifted the Prime Minister the mission patch of the Axiom-4 mission and the Indian tricolour that he had taken with him to the ISS. This Indian tricolour was fluttering in the background on the ISS when Mr. Shukla interacted with Modi on June 29. "Had a great interaction with Shubhanshu Shukla. We discussed a wide range of subjects including his experiences in space, progress in science & technology as well as India's ambitious Gaganyaan mission. India is proud of his feat," Mr. Modi said in a post on X. The Lucknow-born astronaut was also seen showing pictures he had taken from the ISS on a tablet computer to Prime Minister Modi. Mr. Shukla was part of the Axiom-4 private space mission that lifted off from Florida on June 25 and docked at the International Space Station on June 26. He returned to Earth on 15 July. The Prime Minister interacted with Mr. Shukla on June 29 in the initial days of the Axiom-4 mission that had docked at the ISS. He had also asked the astronaut to document his learning, training and stay at the International Space Station that would help India's future missions, including Gaganyaan. Mr. Shukla returned to India on Sunday (August 17, 2025). In a press interaction earlier this month, Shukla said that he had fulfilled the task entrusted to him by Prime Minister Modi to document every aspect of his mission for the benefit of India's upcoming Gaganyaan programme. "I remember very well the homework given to me by the prime minister. And I completed it very well. I am very excited to come back and share it with you all. I am confident that all that knowledge is going to prove extremely useful and crucial for us, for our own Gaganyaan mission," Mr. Shukla said on August 1. Along with three other astronauts — Peggy Whitson (U.S.), Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski (Poland), and Tibor Kapu (Hungary) -- Shukla conducted over 60 experiments and 20 outreach sessions during the 20-day Axiom-4 mission.
