‘Comes With Territory': Pedro Pascal On ‘Age Backlash' Over Fantastic Four Casting
Hollywood actor Pedro Pascal has officially joined the Marvel Universe with his casting as Reed Richards, also known as Mister Fantastic, in the upcoming film 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps."
While many celebrated the announcement, others expressed disappointment over his age. People took to social media and argued that Pascal may be too old to portray the iconic superhero role.
The Game of Thrones actor, who is known for brushing off public scrutiny, has now opened up, six months after Marvel Studios announced its lineup, admitting that the backlash over his age hit more than usual.
Speaking to AP News during the Fantastic Four fan event in London, the 50-year-old said, 'I think that sometimes the outside will find you no matter how much you try to protect yourself from it and it just comes with the territory."
He further stated, 'I think maybe my nerves were bigger than they usually are and so I think I just was a little bit more sensitive to the love that people have for stories like this because I know that they wouldn't exist if it weren't for the love that people have for these characters."
Pascal mentioned that even though people are criticising him for the role, he is trying his best to stay committed and provide justice to the role. He said, 'I think that it's very important for me that expectations be fulfilled. But I also know that the only way to do that is to give it all my focus and all my heart and my body and my soul and so that was the best I could do."

Fantastic Four was first released in 2005, followed by a sequel in 2007, with Ioan Gruffudd playing the role of Reed Richards. Later, a reboot was made in 2015, in which Miles Teller took on the role.
In the 2022 film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, John Krasinski made a brief appearance as an alternate Reed. Pedro, who is 50 years old, is the oldest actor to play the role; Ioan, Miles and John were 31, 28 and 42 years old, respectively.
Helmed by Matt Shakman, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is slated to hit the theatres on July 25. Along with Pascal, the film will also star Vanessa Kirby, Julia Garner, Ralph Ineson, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach in pivotal roles.

Last Updated: Saiyaara becomes 1st Indian song to top Spotify Global Viral 50, beating BLACKPINK, Billie Eilish & Justin Bieber. A milestone moment for Indian music. The Saiyaara wave shows no signs of slowing down. The film's hauntingly beautiful title track has not only taken over Indian cinema halls but is now echoing across global playlists, creating history as the first-ever Indian song to top Spotify's Global Viral 50 chart. Sung by Faheem Abdullah and composed by Tanishk Bagchi, Saiyaara has surged past international music heavyweights like Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, BLACKPINK, and Sabrina Carpenter, marking a watershed moment for Indian music on the world stage. Celebrating the milestone, composer Tanishk Bagchi shared a heartfelt post on Instagram, 'We did it. Saiyaara is now #1 on Global Viral Spotify. This moment belongs to every heartbeat behind the song." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Tanishk (@tanishk_bagchi) Bagchi went on to thank the creative team, writing, 'Thank you to Mohit Suri sir, the man with the vision. Irshad bhai, for penning words that pierced hearts. Arsalan & Faheem, your music and your voice brought the sky closer. YRF, for backing us with belief. And to every listener, every sharer, every dreamer — this is yours too." He concluded with a powerful declaration, 'Indian music isn't rising. It's already flying. Saiyaara is the proof." For years, Tanishk Bagchi's name has been synonymous with Bollywood hits—but also with controversy. Known for delivering chartbusters at lightning speed, the composer has often been criticised for relying too heavily on remakes. But with Saiyaara, the soulful title track from Mohit Suri's latest romantic drama, Bagchi feels he has finally broken free of the label—and found long-overdue vindication. 'People used to say that I only recreated songs. But they didn't know that I have composed a number of good original songs as well," he told Hindustan Times. 'Par ab Saiyaara se logo ko pata chal raha hai ki Tanishk Bagchi original mein bhi baap hai (People are finally realising that I'm a master at originals too). I'm really loving it all. I've received a lot of encouragement." Meanwhile, the film Saiyaara is rewriting box office records. Headlined by newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, the Mohit Suri directorial opened with a staggering ₹21 crore, the highest-ever first-day collection for a debutant-led film. Within just eight days, it stormed past the ₹200 crore mark, with packed shows continuing to dominate theatres.
