12-Year-Old Claims Parent Is Being 'Unfair' for Shutting Off Devices Before Midnight Bedtime
The parent said the child had a "meltdown" and told them that all of their friends did not have bedtimes
The parent said their wife asked them to compromise with the childA 12-year-old and her parent are not seeing eye to eye about bedtimes.
One of the parents shared in a post on Reddit's popular "Am I The A------" forum that their 12-year-old daughter recently started complaining about having a bedtime set and having her devices shut off by 11:30 p.m. during her summer vacation.
The parent noted that they had programmed her devices to 'start turning off at about 10:30 p.m,' with her iPhone shutting off first followed by her 'iPad, consoles and computer, then T.V.' They noted that all devices were usually shut down by 11:30 p.m., just in time for her bedtime at midnight.
'I think that's more than reasonable for a kid her age, especially during the summer,' the parent wrote.
However, the child was not happy with this arrangement and recently had a 'meltdown,' telling her parent that they were 'mean' and weren't 'being fair,' especially since it was summer. They said their daughter started 'crying' and told them it was 'unfair because 'literally ALL' her friends stay up late' and don't have bedtimes.
'I tried to stay calm and just let her vent,' the parent said. 'I don't want her staying up late because it's nothing but trouble, especially online, and I don't want her sleeping away her summers by staying up all night.'
The parent noted that their wife said that they should compromise with the child, which prompted them to turn to the internet for advice. Several people sided with the Redditor, noting that their rules were perfectly fine.

One person commented, 'A 12 year old cannot be trusted to have the discipline to regulate their own sleep hours. 12am is already an extremely generous bedtime.' While another chimed in saying that the parent has 'set a developmentally appropriate boundary and bedtime.' They added, 'Midnight is more than reasonable during the summer.'
Some people even voiced their thoughts that the bedtime was actually too late. One person wrote, 'I thought you were going to say you make her go to bed at 7. No devices after 10:30 is more than reasonable for a 12 year old.'
Another said, 'That's not early, that's a late bedtime, even for summer. [In my opinion] a reasonable bedtime for summer would be 10 p.m. with electronics taken at [9:30 p.m.]'

A sneak peek into this year's Taste of Buffalo festival
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Taste of Buffalo, one of the area's most anticipated summer festivals — offering food from 40 different eateries — kicks off next weekend. On July 12 and 13, Niagara Square to Chippewa Street will be filled with restaurants serving up their best dishes. WIVB News 4 spoke with some participating businesses, who gave a sneak peek into this year's eats. 'Being part of this is straight up Buffalo,' said Jack Adly, the owner of Venus Greek & Mediterranean. 'If you're not part of this, you're missing out on so much.' Venus Greek & Mediterranean plans to serve up around 400 pounds of french fries alone. 'It's exciting. We prepare so we make sure that everybody has a chance to grab some of our items that day,' Adly said. 'We don't like to run out. We've been there for almost eight years, so we have an idea of how much we're selling.' The Greek restaurant will also offer bites of its homemade Dubai chocolate and Greek twist on poutine. 'That day we're going to be bringing two new products. It'll be easier for you to try it out and it's smaller portions, so you'll be able to try this out and every other place,' Adly said. 'I highly recommend stopping by, checking out our poutine fries and the Dubai chocolate so you don't have to make a trip to one of the locations.' For those looking for a cool treat, Sweet Melody's is offering a number of flavors of gelato and sorbet. 'One pan is probably five liters of gelato and we probably go through about 150 pans of it, minimum,' said Rachel Incorvia, the owner of Sweet Melody's. The business has had sweet success at the Taste of Buffalo, even winning various awards. 'We get a lot of people that say, 'Oh, I saw you at the Taste of Buffalo and I had this, can I get this at my wedding?' Or we do corporate events, birthday parties, everything like that,' Incorvia said. Click here for more information on the Taste of Buffalo. 'Rick and Morty' season 8 streaming: How to watch new episodes, schedule and more
The Emmy-winning animated series Rick and Morty, about a mad scientist and his grandson's adventures across the universe, returned for season 8 on May 25 on Adult Swim. This season consists of 10 all-new episodes that have been dropping weekly on Sundays; the season finale will air July 27. The series, which stars Ian Cardoni, Harry Belden, Sarah Chalke, Chris Parnell and Spencer Grammer, will also be airing in over 170 countries, so whether you're in the U.S. or abroad, here's everything you need to know about how to watch Rick and Morty season 8, including where to stream it and how to watch it with the help of a VPN if you don't have cable. Season 8 of Rick and Morty premiered on Sunday, May 25. The series won't land on streaming in the U.S. until after the entire season wraps up — so if you're used to watching Rick and Morty on HBO Max, heads up that you'll have to wait until Sept. 1 to catch Season 8. Rick and Morty airs on Adult Swim. After the entire season is finished airing, it will eventually stream on HBO Max. It is, however, already available to stream on HBO Max in Australia... There are several ways you can watch Rick and Morty without cable. Adult Swim is available on several platforms, including DirecTV, Fubo, Hulu + Live TV and YouTube TV. Warner Bros. Discovery has also confirmed that episodes will be available to stream in the U.S. on HBO Max, but not until Sept. 1. While the new season of Rick and Morty won't be immediately available on HBO Max (you'll have to wait until it arrives on Sept. 1), you can catch the past seven seasons on demand on the platform now. If you don't have cable but still want to stream season 8 of Rick and Morty as new episodes are released, all it takes is a VPN. By using a VPN, you can access new episodes of Rick and Morty when they air in other countries and stream them on demand after they premiere. Just note that the premiere dates may vary. For example, it's scheduled to debut June 1 in the U.K. on Channel 4's My4, and May 26 on the Australian version of HBO Max (though you'll still need your U.S. subscription to watch it). Just set your VPN location to the U.K. or Australia, respectively. A VPN (virtual private network) helps protect your data, can mask your IP address and is perhaps most popular for being especially useful in the age of streaming. Whether you're looking to watch Friends on Netflix (which left the U.S. version of the streamer back in 2019) or tune in to overseas broadcasts, a VPN can help you out. Looking to try a VPN for the first time? This guide breaks down the best VPN options for every kind of user.

Alan Tudyk Says Even Scenes Cut From ‘Andor' Season 2 Made the Show Better
Fans of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story had long anticipated K-2SO's arrival on Andor. Considering the hulking droid voiced by Alan Tudyk plays a huge part in the movie, the Disney+ show was duty-bound to explain how he first crosses paths with Cassian Andor (Diego Luna). However, as it turned out, K-2SO's role in the series wasn't as expansive as some might've predicted. There's a practical reason for that; as Andor creator Tony Gilroy explained back in April, bringing in such a physically conspicuous character proved challenging in a story so wrapped up in the business of spies and sneaking around. The end result was that Andor featured an impactful yet limited on-screen presence for K-2SO. As Collider reports, drawing from a panel it hosted at FanExpo Denver, Tudyk—a genre fan favorite not just for Rogue One, but also for Firefly, Resident Alien, and more—totally understood why that had to be. Andor just didn't have room in its fast-paced second season. But with a lot of story to tell across a limited array of episodes, Tudyk said, 'you missed a big chunk of us getting to know each other.' Certain scenes might not have made it into the Disney+ series, but the actor explained he was still able to draw on what they might have contained to help inspire his performance. 'A lot of the things I had in my mind about Cassian and K-2 are in that blank space that we don't get to see, and that's how they get to care about one another,' Tudyk explained. 'That's how we thought about it.' At any rate, we get to see the trust and affection that's been built up between the duo throughout Rogue One. With their Andor interactions providing a bit of the backstory, we can fill in that 'blank space' where their relationship really took shape, just as Tudyk did. Want more io9 news?
