Grey's Anatomy and Euphoria star Eric Dance was emotional as he gave a candid update on his health following his devastating ALS diagnosis earlier in the year
Grey's Anatomy star Eric Dane has tearfully opened up about his struggles following his ALS diagnosis. The actor, 52, revealed his rare health issue in April and has now labelled it "crushing".
The star, also known for his role on Euphoria, appeared on stateside television to provide the emotional update. Speaking to the team on Good Morning America, Eric confessed: "I wake up every day and I'm immediately reminded that this is happening.

As journalist Diane Sawyer candidly told him: "It's not a dream,' he repeated it back. "I don't think this is the end of my story," he went on.

Elsewhere in the interview, a defiant Eric insisted: "I don't feel like this is the end of me." The full interview is set to air on Monday, but in another teaser Eric was seen to be looking emotional as Diane questioned his first thoughts on his diagnosis.
ALS stands for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. It can also be referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease, which is a rare motor neurone disease (MND). There is no cure with treatment only available to help ease the pain, which can be severe particularly on and around the nerves and joints.
The condition usually affects those over 50 but can occur at any age and sadly there's no cure. In the UK, it affects 5,000 adults at any one time, according to the MND Association.
Eric previously told PEOPLE: "I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.

'I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to the set of Euphoria next week.I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.'
Eric revealed his diagnosis just weeks after calling off his divorce from Rebecca Gayheart. They had initially filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences for their reason. However, they appeared to have a change of heart as Rebecca filed documents to have the petition dismissed in March.
The duo have two children together, daughters Billie Beatrice, 15, and Georgia Geraldine, 13. The couple tied the knot back in 2004 in Las Vegas after a whirlwind romance of 10 months.
As well as his role as Mark 'McSteamy' Sloan in Greys Anatomy, Eric has also starred The Last Ship, the movie Burlesque, Kabul and Bad Boys: Ride or Die. According to IMDb, he will next appear on screen in TV series Countdown and Family Secrets, with the latter being in post-production.

ALS-stricken Eric Dane reveals hopes for his TV future amid battle with terminal condition

Eric Dane has revealed his hopeful plans to continue his acting career amid his battle with degenerative condition ALS. The Grey's Anatomy alum, 52, announced in April that he's battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a rare and incurable neurological condition that progressively weakens muscles and affects physical function. He has vowed to carry on with his filming commitments on Euphoria in an emotional interview - and previously tearfully declared: 'This doesn't feel like the end.' He told Variety: 'I will ride that show until the wheels fall off. 'I don't know what the fate of the show is. I do know that it takes a heroic effort to put it together. If all the elements are going to be there to keep going, I would work on it as long as they'll have me.' He also dished on what he knows about Euphoria's new season. 'Listen, I don't know anything. I haven't seen a script. We get pages maybe a day or two before, but it's all kept on the D.L. I just have so much trust in Sam Levinson that I don't really need to know what's happening. As Cal Jacobs, Dane's performance is full of barely repressed rage which is a problem in his parenting of Jacob Elordi's Nate Jacobs. 'I work with Jacob a lot; we have profound conversations when we're not shooting. He's a smart, bright, intuitive actor. You can apply that across the board with this cast,' Dane said. Dane rose to fame as Dr. Mark 'McSteamy' Sloan on Grey's Anatomy when it was at the height of its popularity, much like Euphoria is now. 'It is mind-bending that I have been a part of two of the shows that have been very zeitgeisty — I guess that's a word. I love making shows that you know people are going to show up to watch. It's rare, and it's not lost on me.' Dane can next be seen in the Amazon series Countdown in which he plays Nathan Blythe, who is part of a team trying to save Los Angeles from attack. Dane and estranged wife Rebecca Gayheart are parents to daughters Billie Beatrice Dane, 15, and Georgia Geraldine Dane, 13. Seen here in 2017 At the time of his ALS diagnosis, Dane and his wife, actress Rebecca Gayheart, 53, were separated. Speaking to E! News about their relationship in early April, the day before Dane revealed his diagnosis, Gayheart said, 'We are really close. We are great co-parents.' 'We really figured out the formula to staying a family and I think our kids are benefiting greatly from it, and we are as well.' 'I think it's important to not look at a relationship that ends as a failure. It's just a season. It wasn't a failure. It was a huge success,' she asserted. Rebecca and Eric tied the knot in 2004, two years before he landed his fan favorite role as Dr. Mark Sloan aka 'McSteamy' on Grey's Anatomy. They stayed together through the scandal that erupted five years into their marriage when a home video leaked of them frolicking naked with an ex-beauty queen. Dane and Gayheart are parents to daughters Billie Beatrice Dane, 15, and Georgia Geraldine Dane, 13. Six years later in 2017, Eric entered treatment for depression, resulting in a filming pause on his action drama series The Last Ship. The following year, Rebecca filed for divorce on grounds of irreconcilable differences, and the pair agreed on joint custody of their daughters with Eric paying alimony. However, the divorce was never finalized throughout the seven-year split. On Thursday, Dane appeared in a teaser for an upcoming Good Morning America interview with Diane Sawyer, offering a deeply personal glimpse into how he's coping with the diagnosis. 'I wake up every day and I'm immediately reminded that this is happening,' he told Sawyer. 'It's not a dream.' In the emotional 30-second preview, the Euphoria star is seen holding hands with Sawyer as they reflect on his journey. At one point, Dane is seen walking alongside Sawyer, their conversation taking a deeply personal turn. I don't feel like this is the end of me.' Two months ago, Dane released a statement about his condition, expressing gratitude for the strong support system he has in place. 'I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter,' he said. ITV Emmerdale fans 'rumble' new shop owner as Eric Pollard is forced to sell

ITV Emmerdale viewers are convinced they've worked out who will take over the village shop, following Eric Pollard's confession that he will have to sell the business Emmerdale fans believe they've "cracked the case" of who will take over Eric Pollard's shop, and it's not David Metcalfe. The village shop has been a mainstay on the ITV soap since 2009, changing hands several times. This included to David (Matthew Wolfenden), who departed the village in 2023. Currently, David's dad Eric (Chris Chittell) has taken over with Tracy Robinson (Amy Walsh) regularly manning the till. However, as fans of the ITV soap will be aware, recent events have led viewers to question how long Eric will remain in charge, given his health slipping lower. ‌ Eric was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2023, and his condition has taken a turn for the worst in recent weeks. After a severe fall at home last week that landed him in hospital, Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton) attempted to arrange a carer for his return home, reports Leicestershire Live. ‌ Following an unsuccessful trial with a carer after Eric found them to be unsuitable, he reluctantly agreed to let Kerry look after him, on the condition she accepted payment. If Eric didn't have enough to juggle with following the news of his health and his business hanging in the balance, he recently discovered his ex, Brenda Walker (Lesley Dunlop), won't be returning to the village following her departure back in April. Brenda sent Eric a card for his 80th birthday on Wednesday's episode earlier this week, informing him that she plans to continue "rediscovering herself" on the worldwide cruise she won. "I don't know why it is, but I always find a way to get rid of the ones that I really care for. I'm afraid, I'm a little bit too old for any change," Eric confessed. ‌ During Thursday's gripping hour-long episode, Kerry and Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) organised an unexpected party for Eric at the shop. Amid the celebrations, Kerry heard Eric relay to his mate Rodney Blackstock (Patrick Mower) his plans to flog the Wishing Well Barn and downsize. Subsequently, Eric experienced a change of heart and disclosed to Kerry his new intention to lease out the Barn on the off chance Brenda might come back to the village. ‌ "I've been thinking and I'm not going to sell. Despite what I said, there is the remotest possibility that Brenda might return. So, I'm going to rent it out and move next door," he said. Eric proceeded to extend an invitation to Kerry to relocate with him and Jacob. Despite Eric's hesitancy to part with the shop, many Emmerdale fans are certain they have cracked who could take over in upcoming episodes, with quite a few proposing the fresh face Kammy Hadiq (Shebz Miah). ‌ "Maybe Kammy's family will buy the shop, it's unusual to have a character in the soap and no house or family," speculated a user on a Facebook fan group. Another chimed in: "I'd love to see more of Kammy, what if he buys the shop from Eric?" while another fan quipped: "Yes to the Kammy redemption storyline." Elsewhere, a different viewer proposed: "Bet he lets Kerry have the shop," with yet another fan hoping: "I hope Eric doesn't sell the shop to Dawn and Joe."
