In his X Handle post on August 8, Adhikari had written that 'there is mounting evidence that I-PAC associates, who are employees of a private political consultancy firm working for the ruling Trinamool Congress, have infiltrated our State Government & Administration.'
Adhikari claimed that 'they were reportedly issuing directives to senior officials, including WBCS Executive Officers and WB Cadre IAS Officers. This is a blatant misuse of power, blurring the lines between party politics and public service, and potentially draining our state exchequer to fund TMC's campaign management agency.'

'This could be a financial scam as well and a betrayal of the trust of every citizen of West Bengal. I have urged the Hon'ble Minister to conduct a thorough investigation through the National Informatics Centre (NIC) to ascertain: 1. Digital trails of unauthorized I-PAC involvement in WB Government communications. 2. Misuse of State IT resources by non-governmental entities. 3. Violations of data privacy and
cybersecurity norms
. 4. Illegitimate payments, if any, from public funds to I-PAC. This is not just an administrative issue, it's a threat to our democracy. I am committed to fighting this systematic rot,' Adhikari wrote in his X Handle post.

PM Narendra Modi remembers 'pain' of Partition horrors, calls August 14 ‘tragic chapter of history'

Observing Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid a tribute to the people who endured the "upheaval and pain" of the Partition of India. Sharing an X post, PM Modi called the Partition a 'tragic chapter' of Indian history. "India observes Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, remembering the upheaval and pain endured by countless people during that tragic chapter of our history. It is also a day to honour their ability to face unimaginable loss and still find the strength to start afresh," PM Modi wrote. Amit Shah, in a post on X, said, 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is a day to express condolences by remembering the pain of those who suffered due to the partition of the country and its tragedy. On this day, the Congress party divided the nation into pieces, hurting the pride of Mother India.' He futher noted, 'The partition led to violence, exploitation, and atrocities, and millions of people endured displacement. I offer my heartfelt tribute to all those people. The country will never forget this history and pain of the partition. I offer my tribute to those who lost their lives in this horror of the partition.' Earlier today, Union Health Minister and BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda called for national unity and 'give a befitting reply to anti-national forces.' Paying tribute to millions who while "enduring agony of displacement", sacrificed their lives, the senior BJP leader said in a post on X, 'The dark day of 1947 reminds us of that cruel event when the citizens of the nation suffered the merciless pain of migration and, enduring inhuman torture, lost their homes, property, and lives.' Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said, 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day: Not a mere part of history, but etched in our national consciousness.' On August 14, India observes 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' to pay tribute to those who lost their lives and were displaced during the country's partition in 1947. India attained its freedom from British rule on 15th August, 1947. Independence Day, which is celebrated on 15th August every year, is a joyous and proud occasion for any nation; however, with the sweetness of freedom came also the trauma of partition. The birth of the newly independent Indian nation was accompanied by violent pangs of partition that left permanent scars on millions of Indians. The partition caused the largest migrations in human history, affecting about 20 million people. Millions of families had to abandon their ancestral villages/towns/cities and were forced to find a new life as refugees. Meanwhile, Railway stations across the country will showcase exhibitions on Thursday to commemorate the sufferings, trauma and displacements experienced by millions of people during the partition of India in 1947. An exhibition has been prepared by the culture ministry for the Observance of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day (PHRD), commemorated every year on August 14. "The Government of India has decided to observe PHRD, 2025 with a series of commemorative activities to be carried out across the country on August 14, 2025. In this regard, the Ministry of Culture has curated an exhibition to showcase the sufferings of the partition-affected people," the railway ministry said in a written communication to all its zones.

We're living in volatile era, 'atmanirbharta' mindset needed to deal with global turbulence: EAM

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said the world is facing a "volatile and uncertain era", having experienced the successive impact of the Covid pandemic, multiple conflicts and "trade upheavals", and asserted that ' atmanirbharta ' (self reliance) is the mindset needed to deal with "global turbulence". In his address at a conclave here on Wednesday, Jaishankar also said that in an era of globalisation and urbanisation, "traditions are often lost with time". But, by nurturing them, "we have made Indian tourism even more attractive", he said. Our people and their self-belief. We have overcome adversities and we have addressed multiple challenges in the journey towards progress and prosperity." The event was hosted by the Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism and Hospitality. Live Events "We are definitely living in a volatile and uncertain era, having experienced the successive impact of the Covid pandemic, of multiple conflicts, many of which are still going on, and of trade upheavals," Jaishankar said without naming any country. His comments came in the backdrop of the US slapping an additional 25 per cent tariff on all Indian imports, on top of an existing 25 per cent duty, taking the total to 50 per cent effective August 27. The minister added that nations with robust domestic demand have fared better and will obviously continue to do so. "The value of stronger tourism in such a situation is hard to overstate. After all, it has so many dimensions, including infrastructure development, entrepreneurship, creativity, skills enhancement, or job generation," he said. Indeed, there are a few activities that do more to energise the economy and multiply employment, Jaishankar said. In his address, Jaishankar emphasised the diversity, richness and the wonderful heritage that "our civilisation has nurtured", and said today there is an "enormous effort" to present to the world what really India is. He also said that in recent years, India has made "sustained efforts" to make "our heritage and culture more visible to the world", citing the inscription of multiple Indian heritage sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List in the past several years. "We have so much to be proud of and so much to share with the world," he asserted. "Our approach has long been driven by Vasudhaiva Kutumbakum and Atithi Devo Bhava. While we will always benefit with such openness, it is essential, in times of unpredictability, to stand firmly on our own feet. "Atmanirbharta is, of course, the mindset to deal with global turbulence. But it is also the basis to strengthen our self-confidence, to increase our resilience, and to lay the foundation for Viksit Bharat," he added. In his address, Jaishankar also asserted that more than diplomacy, it is actually tourism that connects any nation to the world. "Your industry helps to prepare a global workforce at a time when international mobility is becoming more common... Every action in this sector helps enhance brand India," the minister said. He recalled that in 2023, during India's presidency of the G20, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was very "determined" that every state of India must get a chance to showcase itself before the world. "As part of a strategy, G20 conferences were therefore held close to heritage sites or naturally beautiful landscapes, and delegates were afforded opportunities for maximum cultural immersion," he said, adding that every state rose to the occasion and put their "best foot forward". The impression the delegates took back with them "will stand us in very good stead" and it is for this reason "we say G20 connected India to the world, and equally the world to India", Jaishankar said.

'Tragic chapter': PM Modi, Amit Shah pay tribute to victims on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day; honour their grit

File photo NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tribute to victims who suffered during India's 1947 Partition on the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, remembering the "upheaval and pain endured by countless people" after the unplanned partition. PM Modi said it's the day to honour the grit of people who faced "unimaginable loss and still find the strength to start afresh". "India observes #PartitionHorrorsRemembranceDay, remembering the upheaval and pain endured by countless people during that tragic chapter of our history. It is also a day to honour their ability to face unimaginable loss and still find the strength to start afresh," PM Modi wrote on X. The PM further said: "Many of those affected went on to rebuild their lives and achieve remarkable milestones. This day is also a reminder of our enduring responsibility to strengthen the bonds of harmony that hold our country together." Union home minister Amit Shah said August 14 is the day to "remember and honour the pain of those who suffered the tragedy of Partition" and lashed out at the Congress party for dividing the nation -- calling it the dark chapter of history. "Today is a day to remember and honour the pain of those who suffered the tragedy of Partition. On this day, the Congress divided the nation, wounding the pride of Mother India. Partition unleashed violence, exploitation, and atrocities, forcing millions to leave their homes. I offer my heartfelt tributes to all those who endured this suffering. The nation can never forget the history and anguish of Partition. I also pay homage to those who lost their lives in this dark chapter of our history," Shah wrote on X. Defence minister Rajnath Singh said: "Every Indian still carries a sense of compassion for those affected families. We remain fully committed to further strengthening social harmony in the country." "I pay tribute to all those brothers and sisters who endured the horrific consequences of hatred and violence following India's Partition in 1947, and who suffered the loss of lives and property," he wrote on X. External affairs minister S Jaishankar also said that the partition caused "immense suffering and had far-reaching human and strategic consequences." "On #PartitionHorrorsRemembranceDay, we recall the resilience of those who endured this terrible tragedy. There are many lessons to be learnt from this painful chapter," the minister wrote on X. The horror of partition The Partition of India in 1947, which created the separate nations of India and Pakistan, was one of the most defining and traumatic events in South Asian history. Born out of political deadlock between the Indian National Congress and the Muslim League, and hastened by the British decision to leave, the division was drawn hastily along religious lines by the Radcliffe Commission. The result triggered one of the largest human migrations in history, with around 14–18 million people crossing borders -- Hindus and Sikhs moving to India, Muslims to Pakistan. The upheaval unleashed horrific communal violence, massacres, abductions, and sexual assaults, leaving more than a million dead and countless others scarred for life. Entire trains of refugees were attacked, villages were wiped out, and families were torn apart overnight. To ensure the memory of this tragedy endures, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2021 declared August 14 as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day ( Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas ). The day is marked with tributes to victims, exhibitions, archival displays, and public messages reflecting on the human cost of Partition, with leaders urging unity and a commitment to never let such divisions and bloodshed occur again.
