GDOT, Atlanta will have repaving projects happening at the same time this summer

Yahoo09-05-2025
When the weather warms up, paving and road construction season ramps up.
But this year is a little bit different.
Channel 2's Steve Gehlbach learned that the Georgia Department of Transportation and the Atlanta Department of Transportation will both have major pavement projects happening at the same time.

'This summer we are having really a super-charged paving season. A lot of that is due to the pavement condition that we have,' said GDOT spokeswoman Natalie Dale.
Channel 2 Action News has reported on parts of metro Atlanta interstates have been crumbling in recent years.
Drivers can be prepared for pretty much every major interstate in metro Atlanta getting resurfaced this summer.
'I-285 on the eastside, on the westside. We have downtown connector paving, I-20 paving, 75, 85, as well as some smaller state routes.'
GDOT wants world-class pavement for the 2026 FIFA World Cup coming to Atlanta and other big events.
It's the same reason the city is also repaving most of its downtown areas this summer.
'But the truth is if you stay ready, you don't have to get ready,' Atlanta City Councilmember Marci Collier Overstreet said.
The city council approved $120 million for downtown resurfacing totaling 25 miles.
'…really hitting our mandates. We're finally delivering these capital projects and it's time," Overstreet said.

While GDOT works overnights and opening lanes during the day, the surface streets will be opposite.
'Work will take place primarily during daylight hours. As always, ATLDOT will continue to coordinate with GDOT to minimize traffic disruptions wherever possible,' the city wrote in a statement.
Repaving starts in the next couple of weeks by the end of May, but ramps up quickly.
'We peak during those June, July, August months,' Dale said. 'But this will last into September, October depending on schedule and temperatures.'
GDOT encourage drivers to be patient and check its new website dedicated to summer resurfacing.

Comcast debuts soccer-focused video package ahead of World Cup

(Reuters) -Internet and media giant Comcast launched a soccer-focused video package exclusively for its Xfinity customers on Wednesday, as it looks to attract sports fans ahead of major events, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Comcast has priced the offering, called "World Soccer Ticket", at $85 a month. The bundle includes nearly 60 broadcast, cable news, and sports channels, along with a premium subscription of NBCUniversal's Peacock streaming service. As cord cutting continues to hit traditional TV revenue, live sports content has emerged as one of the few formats that still draw millions of eyeballs and boost advertising demand. The package comes ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. Every match of the quadrennial tournament will be available in English on Fox and in Spanish across Telemundo, Universo, and Peacock, Comcast said on Wednesday. The plan will also offer live coverage of major international leagues and competitions, including Premier League, UEFA Champions League, LaLiga, Liga MX and CONCACAF Champions Cup. Besides, the package will include live coverage of other major sports and leagues like the NFL and NBA on the package's networks and Peacock. Customers can access the package through X1 set-top box and Xfinity Stream TV app on supported platforms like Apple TV and Fire TV. Comcast's new offering is expected to drive demand for its networks like NBC and boost subscriber growth for its flagship streaming platform, Peacock, which had 41 million paid subscribers at the end of June, far fewer than rival platforms. Media companies are aggressively pursuing major sports deals to strengthen their streaming platforms. The newly merged Paramount secured exclusive U.S. broadcast rights to the Ultimate Fighting Championship for seven years in a $7.7 billion deal on Monday. '…ICE Out of Their Property': Home Depot Stock (NYSE:HD) Gains Despite Economic Boycott Plans

It will likely prove little surprise to discover that home improvement giant Home Depot (HD) is making some people very unhappy, seeing as its parking lots are now a battleground over illegal immigration. And now, some are responding to these conditions with a planned economic boycott. Investors, however, took that news in stride. In fact, investors sent shares of Home Depot stock up over 2% in Tuesday afternoon's trading. Elevate Your Investing Strategy: Take advantage of TipRanks Premium at 50% off! Unlock powerful investing tools, advanced data, and expert analyst insights to help you invest with confidence. Several community groups got together to set up a boycott on Home Depot in support of illegal immigrants who find themselves arrested at said locations. Interestingly, the community groups targeted several other businesses for similar reasons, including Penske Truck Services. You may remember Penske Truck Services as being the truck supplier that was used in the ' Trojan Horse ' attack that saw several illegal immigrants arrested at a Home Depot parking lot. Executive director of CHIRLA—the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights—Angelica Salas noted 'What we want them to do is ICE out of their property. And to stand up with our community, to stand up with the very same people who are their customers.' The boycott is turning against several businesses, and is instead encouraging people to '…support local businesses and street vendors.' Given that the boycott will last all of one day, the impact to these businesses will likely be minimal. 'The Next Generation of Home Buyers' Meanwhile, a recent profile of Molly Battin, Home Depot's Chief Marketing Officer, reveals that she has been hard at work trying to frame Home Depot as the brand of choice for '…the next generation of home buyers.' Battin noted that Home Depot has already done well among boomers, and now wants to focus on the opportunity they have with millennials and Gen Z. Where Gen X is in this approach is, as ever, unclear. To that end, Battin has ramped up marketing capabilities. Home Depot now has its own content production operation in Studio Orange. It is also set to be the official home improvement retailer for the FIFA World Cup event next year. And it even has a new brand campaign known as 'What Are You Working On,' which is designed to make those new home buyers more confident in their ability to improve and maintain the homes they just purchased. Is Home Depot a Good Long-Term Buy? Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Strong Buy consensus rating on HD stock based on 19 Buys and six Holds assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. After a 10.7% rally in its share price over the past year, the average HD price target of $429.89 per share implies 8.83% upside potential.

Communication Matters More Than Ever During Global Events Like FIFA 2026

VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--With the FIFA World Cup set to arrive in North America next summer, businesses across the continent—especially in host cities like Toronto and Vancouver—are preparing for a wave of global attention. Beyond managing logistics and crowds, communication is key to delivering a successful experience for all. 'Communication is central,' said John Furlong, former head of Vancouver's 2010 Olympic Organizing Committee (VANOC), in a recent CTV interview. LAT Multilingual worked closely with VANOC at the time, ensuring all communications were translated promptly. Now, the team is once again ready to support businesses and destinations in making FIFA 2026 a memorable success. 'In the months leading up to the World Cup, locals and visitors need to understand what's coming and how they can make the most of this major event,' said Julie Wong-Gravend, President of LAT Multilingual. 'Multilingual and culturally relevant communication is essential.' From signage and menus to websites and digital campaigns, clear and inclusive communication fosters understanding. It also creates opportunities for destinations beyond host cities to engage travellers planning extended stays or day trips during the tournament. Global events require globally minded strategies. To connect effectively, content must be adapted to reach people in their own language and on their preferred platforms. Translation, campaign localization, multilingual social media, and cultural training are all essential parts of a truly global communication approach. 'Global visibility starts with local readiness,' Wong-Gravend added. 'Businesses can play a meaningful role in creating a welcoming environment for visitors by showing up in the right language, on the right platform, and with the right tone.' About LAT Multilingual Founded in 1999, LAT Multilingual is a women-owned, ISO-certified, B Corp company specializing in translation, cultural adaptation, and multicultural marketing.
