Southwest Houston: Two-car crash injures three; causes partial shutdown, power outage
Police say one car crashed into another while speeding on Fondren Road.
One vehicle struck two power poles, causing an outage for hundreds.
Three people were injured. One of them is said to be in critical condition.
Southbound Fondren Road is closed off in the area.
HOUSTON - The southbound lanes of Fondren Road are closed in southwest Houston following a crash that caused injuries and a power outage.
What we know
The crash happened at about 2 p.m. Thursday in the 9300 block of Fondren Road near South Braeswood Boulevard.
According to HPD Lt. Larry Crowson, a Honda was speeding in the southbound lanes on Fondren near a Ford F-150. The Honda reportedly tried to avoid another vehicle that was coming from a side street when it struck the F150.
Both of the vehicles rolled over several times, according to the lieutenant. The Honda crashed into a tree and was split into two parts.
The Honda also struck two power poles, causing an outage in the area. It's believed 300–400 customers are out of power.
The drivers of both vehicles are said to be in stable condition.
A passenger in the Honda was trapped inside, but has since been taken to a hospital for surgery. Police say the passenger was in critical condition.
Police have closed off Fondren's southbound lanes to investigate the crash and clear the area.
What we don't know
There are allegations that the two cars that crashed were racing, but police say that hasn't been confirmed.
There is no estimate on when southbound Fondren will be cleared.

Red Bull Racing switched to Honda engines for the 2019 season when it ended a 12-year partnership with Renault. Even though Honda left Formula 1 after the 2021 championship, the turbocharged 1.6-liter V-6 powering the RB21 this year still uses a Honda-developed engine. Over the years, F1 driver Max Verstappen has appeared in various commercials promoting production cars, including the Civic Type R. But from 2026 until at least 2030, RBR will use a new powertrain co-developed with Ford. The four-time F1 champion is already starring in a loosely veiled ad for the Blue Oval. Riding shotgun in an RS200 driven by journalist Chris Harris before hopping behind the wheel of a Mustang GTD , Verstappen didn't hold back on his feelings about front-wheel-drive cars: 'I think it's really boring. For me, it's like anti-driving. I drove sometimes in the simulator. It's like the worst thing ever.' As you can imagine, Verstappen didn't conveniently forget he used to promote the CTR not that many years ago. Still the fastest front-wheel-drive production car around the Nürburgring , Honda's hot hatch is generally regarded as one of the most enjoyable FWD cars. Nevertheless, it's perfectly understandable why Red Bull's driver gravitates toward RWD. It's not just because the Mustang GTD sends its V-8 power to the rear axle, as contractual obligations take precedence. Much like when Verstappen endorsed a rear-wheel-drive Honda by starring in an ad for the electric city car, calling it 'fun to drive' and a 'great electric urban vehicle.' It wouldn't be fair to criticize Verstappen, given it was part of the job to say positive things about the CTR and other Honda products. While CTR and GTI fans might take offense at his statement, at the end of the day, it's all about personal preferences. Don't bring out the pitchforks just yet. Ford itself is no stranger to performance front-wheel-drive cars either, although the days of the Fiesta ST are over, and the Focus ST is only months away from retirement . Had those cars still been around, it's easy to imagine Verstappen thrashing either hot hatch with a big smile on his face in an official ad. Ford, Lincoln, Kia among nearly 700,000 vehicles recalled: Check car recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued multiple recalls last week, including notices for more than 300,000 Ford and Lincoln vehicles. Fords, Lincolns recalled for faulty brake assist Ford Motor Company recalled certain 2025 Ford F-150, Expedition, Bronco, Ranger and Lincoln Navigator vehicles as they may have a faulty brake module. The Electronic Brake Booster module in the recalled cars may enter into a faulted state while driving, resulting in a loss of brake boost until the module completes a sleep cycle when the vehicle is off, according to the recall report. Affected vehicles: 56,473 Lincolns recalled for faulty window closing Ford recalled certain 2025 Lincoln Aviator vehicles as the as the rear windows may not reverse properly when being closed. When closing the windows with the global closing feature, the side rear windows may exert excessive force when encountering an object, before they automatically reverse – according to the NHTSA.
