Yogi Adityanath slams SP leader's comment on IAF wing commander Vyomika Singh: ‘Grave insult'

Hindustan Times16-05-2025
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath slammed Samajwadi Party leader Ramgopal Yadav for alleging that Madhya Pradesh BJP minister Vijay Shah spared IAF wing commander Vyomika Singh from abuse as he did not know her caste.
The SP leader was criticising the BJP minister for his derogatory comment on Indian Army colonel Sofiya Qureshi which drew widespread ire resulting in the registration of an FIR against Shah on the order of the Madhya Pradesh high court. The minister had apologised for his comment.
Condemning the SP leader, Adityanath said that the armed forces' uniform is not seen through 'casteist' eyes as every soldier does 'Rashtradharma' (duty towards the nation) and is neither a representative of any caste nor of a religion.
'The Samajwadi Party's national general secretary's act of binding a brave daughter within the ambit of caste is not only a display of his party's narrow-mindedness but is also a grave insult to the valour of the army and the country's identity,' the chief minister wrote in Hindi on X.
'This is the same mentality which dares to divide even patriotism in the name of appeasement and vote bank politics. The public will once again respond to this distorted casteist thinking,' Adityanath added.

Ramgopal Yadav slammed the BJP's 'Tiranga Yatra' as a gimmick being done for the sake of elections. 'These people (BJP) are taking out the Tiranga Yatra... They do everything only for elections. What is the need to take out the Tiranga Yatra? If there is a need then the whole country should be taken into confidence, all the political parties should be taken into confidence,' he said.

The SP leader stated further, 'Vyomika Singh is a Jatav from Haryana, and Air Marshal Bharti is a Yadav from Purnia. So all three were from PDA (Picchda, dalit, Alpsankhyak or Backwards, dalits and minorities). One was abused as she was a Muslim. The other was spared thinking that she was a Rajput... and there was no information (to them) about Bharti.'
Meanwhile, visuals from ANI showed the SP party office in Lucknow sporting banners with words, 'Sofiya ka apmaan, desh ka apmaan hai. BJP desh se maafi maange (Insulting Sofia is an insult to the country. BJP should apologize to the country).'

On 15th August, 2025, is India celebrating the 79th Independence Day or the 78th? Explained

India will celebrate its Independence Day on August 15. However, many people argue it should be the 78th because 2025 minus 1947 equals 78 years since independence. Others say it is the 79th Indepedence Day. The confusion comes from how celebrations are counted. India's first Independence Day was on August 15, 1947, itself. From then, each year's celebration adds to the count. In 2025, 78 full years have passed since freedom, but the event will be celebrated for the 79th time. This is because the counting is inclusive, starting from 1947. So, while India has completed 78 years of independence, the 2025 celebration is the 79th occasion. India will celebrate its 79th Independence Day with the theme 'Naya Bharat'. The theme reflects the goal of a prosperous, self-reliant nation by 2047. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the national flag at the Red Fort, assisted by Flying Officer Rashika Sharma. There will be a 21-gun salute. An IAF band featuring Agniveer Vayu musicians will play the national anthem. Two Mi-17 helicopters will shower flower petals. Around 5,000 guests, including sanitation workers and grassroots champions, will attend the ceremony in New Delhi. The event will include parades, cultural shows, and the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. Public convenience measures will include early metro services, cloakrooms and wheelchair assistance. Here are 10 inspiring quotes about India to share on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day: 'You can chain me, you can torture me, you can even destroy this body, but you will never imprison my mind.' - Mahatma Gandhi 'Even if I have to face death a thousand times for my motherland, I shall not be sorry.' - Bhagat Singh 'Every citizen of India must remember that he is an Indian and he has every right in this country but with certain duties.' - Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel 'Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.' - Jawaharlal Nehru 'It is blood alone that can pay the price of freedom. Give me blood, and I will give you freedom.' - Subhas Chandra Bose 'Our nation is like a tree of which the original trunk is swarajya and the branches are swadeshi and boycott.' - Bal Gangadhar Tilak This is your country; this is your motherland. Be worthy of it.' - Chandrashekhar Azad 'The preservation of freedom is the task of soldiers alone. The whole nation has to be strong.' - Lal Bahadur Shastri 'Sarfaroshi ki tamanna ab hamare dil mein hai, dekhna hai zor kitna, bazu-e-qatil mein hai.' - Ram Prasad Bismil 'A country's greatness lies in its undying ideal of love and sacrifice that inspires the mothers of the race.' - Sarojini Naidu

On Pak Independence Day, US Praises Islamabad's Counter-Terror Efforts, But Remains Mum on Munir

/ Aug 14, 2025, 12:05PM IST In a move set to anger New Delhi, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has lauded Pakistan's counterterrorism efforts on its Independence Day, while completely ignoring India's own war on terror. The praise comes barely months after the Pahalgam massacre, where LeT-linked TRF killed 26 civilians, and which the US has only now banned alongside the Balochistan Liberation Army. India's fierce response, Operation Sindoor, struck deep into terror camps in Pakistan and PoK despite US President Trump warning India to stand down. Rubio's warm embrace of Islamabad follows Pakistan Army chief Asim Munir's trip to Washington, where he openly threatened India with nuclear war, a provocation met with silence from the US. With tensions already high over Trump's tariff offensive on India and New Delhi's refusal to stop buying Russian oil, Washington's shift signals a dangerous recalibration in South Asia, one that risks emboldening Pakistan while straining US–India trust.

ECI objects to ‘Vote Chori' remarks, terms it attack on voters' dignity: Sources

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has strongly objected to political leaders using phrases like 'Vote Chori' to allege electoral malpractices. Sources said the poll body views such language as an attack on the dignity of Indian voters and the integrity of election officials. According to sources, the Commission says the 'One Person, One Vote' principle has been firmly in place since the first general elections of 1951-52, and any allegation of duplicate voting must be backed by verifiable evidence. 'If anyone has any proof of any person actually voting twice in any election, it should be shared with ECI with a written Affidavit rather than colouring all the electors of India as 'Chor' without any proof,' ECI sources said. They said the Commission is particularly concerned that such rhetoric not only casts doubt on crores of Indian voters but also undermines the credibility of poll officials engaged in conducting elections. 'Trying to create a false narrative by using dirty phrases like 'Vote Chori' for our electors is not only a direct attack on the crores of Indian electors but also an assault on the integrity of lakhs of election staff,' the EC sources said. The reaction comes in the wake of recent remarks by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, who alleged that multiple voters were registered at the same address at a press conference and accused the BJP of 'stealing votes' in connivance with the ECI. The Congress leader claimed to have shared data supporting his charge, but the Commission is insisting on an affidavit. On August 7, Gandhi accused the BJP of adding fake names to voter rolls, citing examples from Karnataka, and claimed a 'massive theft of votes' in the Mahadevapura Assembly segment of the Bangalore Central Lok Sabha seat. The Commission has already rejected such allegations as baseless and misleading.
