4 feared dead in Japan after falling into manhole

Four workers who fell into a manhole on Saturday during a sewage pipe inspection in Saitama Prefecture, north of Tokyo, are all feared dead after being recovered without vital signs, police said. Advertisement The four men, believed to be in their 50s, did not respond to calls after falling into the approximately 15-metre-deep manhole in Gyoda. The authorities received an emergency call at around 9:25am after one man apparently fell in, followed by the other three who tried to rescue him. A city official said the inspection was being carried out in the wake of a massive sinkhole that appeared at an intersection in Yashio, also in Saitama, on January 28, swallowing a truck and its driver, whose body was recovered in May. 01:14 Search under way in Japan for missing driver after truck plunges into a sinkhole Search under way in Japan for missing driver after truck plunges into a sinkhole The incident, believed to have been caused by sewer pipe corrosion, drew public attention to sinkholes and prompted the government to focus on measures addressing ageing infrastructure. 4 killed in shooting at Montana bar, manhunt launched for gunman

A shooting at a Montana bar left four people dead on Friday, prompting a lockdown in a neighbourhood several kilometres away as authorities searched for the suspect in a wooded area. Advertisement The shooting happened around 10.30am at The Owl Bar in Anaconda, according to the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation, which is leading the investigation. The agency confirmed four people were pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect, who was identified as 45-year-old Michael Paul Brown, lived next door to the bar, according to public records. Authorities said his home was cleared by a Swat team and that he was last seen in the Stump Town area, which is just west of Anaconda. More than a dozen officers from local and state police converged on that area, locking it down so no one was allowed in or out. A helicopter also hovered over a nearby mountainside as officers moved among the trees, said Randy Clark, a retired police officer who lives there. Brown was believed to be armed, the Montana Highway Patrol said in a statement. Law enforcement personnel respond to a shooting in Anaconda, Montana, on Friday.
