Man shot dead by Ontario police near Turkey Point Marina, watchdog investigating
The Special Investigations Unit has been called in after a 22-year-old man was shot and killed by police on Tuesday afternoon in Turkey Point. Norfolk County OPP say the marine unit tried to stop a boater who entered a marina and fled on foot and that the individual was found by the emergency response team and canine unit. 'During the interaction, police discharged their firearm. The individual was pronounced deceased,' police said, adding that no further comment would be provided as the SIU is now investigating. The SIU says the 22-year-old man was hit by both and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police watchdog investigating after fatal shooting of 22-year-old man near marina
TURKEY POINT – Ontario's police watchdog says it's investigating after a fatal police-involved shooting in a town on Lake Erie. The Special Investigations Unit says Ontario Provincial Police officers were on the water near the Turkey Point Marina when they spotted a personal watercraft. The SIU say officers attempted to get the operator of the watercraft to stop, but the man headed into the marina, exited the watercraft and ran to some bushes nearby. The watchdog says officers set up a perimeter and there was an 'interaction' between police and the man. Investigators say one officer discharged an anti-riot Enfield weapon and another officer shot his firearm. They say both weapons appeared to have struck the 22-year-old man and he was pronounced dead at the scene. This report by The Canadian Press was first published Aug. 13, 2025.

Bracebridge man's disappearance 2 years ago remains a mystery with no new leads

Daniel Holden was initially reported missing on Sept. 12, 2023. Police say he was last seen one month earlier on August 12. His partner of four years, Christy Stengel, told CTV News in an interview just months after his disapperance he had gone to Bracebridge to gather some clothing from his apartment. 'And it didn't happen that way,' she said. Stengel said Holden may have gone to Casino Rama in Orillia, but police have not confirmed those details. CTV News reached out to Ontario Provincial Police on Wednesday for an update on the case but was told there were no new leads. Holden, described as five feet six inches tall, with short black hair, was last seen wearing a black sweater with white stripes on the sleeves and black pants.
