Leader Live6 days ago
Just two years ago, Gemma Morgan found it difficult to leave the house.
Struggling with her weight and low self-esteem, even everyday tasks like popping to the shops felt overwhelming unless her husband was with her.
Life felt limited, and confidence was at an all-time low.
Fast forward to today, and Gemma, from Connah's Quay, is a completely different woman and it's all thanks to her incredible determination and the support she's found at her local Slimming World group.
Since joining Bonnie Campbell's Slimming World group at Farfield Hall in Connah's Quay on Tuesday mornings, Gemma has lost nearly 10 stone.
But even more powerful than the number on the scale is the transformation in her confidence, independence, and quality of life.
Gemma said: "Two years ago, I wouldn't have even considered doing something like this. Now I feel like the best version of myself.'
A huge part of Gemma's success has come from following Slimming World's Food Optimising plan, a flexible, balanced approach to eating that focuses on filling up on delicious, satisfying foods without ever going hungry.
She added: 'It doesn't feel like a diet. I've learned how to enjoy the foods I love, just in a smarter way. It's given me freedom, not restrictions.'

Gemma has also embraced Body Magic - Slimming World's activity programme which gradually builds up movement in ways that suit her lifestyle.
From short walks to now being more active daily, she's discovered how good it feels to move more and celebrate every step forward.
Where once Gemma relied on her husband to accompany her everywhere, she now goes out with confidence.
She's shopping on her own, socialising more, and recently achieved something she never thought possible… she passed her driving test.

28st taxi driver's incredible transformation as he sheds more than half his body weight

Andy Hill is half the man he used to be - he was 28.5st two years ago but now weighs 13st, having lost more than half his body weight A taxi driver lost an astonishing 15.5st after he was too big to fit into a hospital scanner. Super slimmer Andy Hill is half the man he used to be after weighing in at 28.5st two years ago. ‌ The dad-of-two is now 13st, losing the equivalent of almost 100kg. His waist measurement is 34 in; it was 68 in. He said his transformation was thanks to Slimming World, the love of his family and sheer will power. ‌ Andy, of Redcar N. Yorks., hit rock bottom when he fell over, and four adults were unable to pick him up. This story comes after a man claimed: 'I lost 10st in a year without jabs, surgery or going to the gym'. ‌ ‌ Andy was also 'absolutely ashamed' of himself when he went to hospital for a shoulder injury, which was partly caused by his weight. He needed an MRI several years ago, but he could not fit into a scanner at the James Cook NHS Hospital, Middlesbrough. They booked another appointment at Woodlands private hospital in Darlington, Co Durham. But their scanner was not big enough either. Even diagnosis from an X-Ray was problematic due to his 'body mass'. Now fit and able to enjoy days out with children Clare and John, 38, Andy recalled: "My collar bone was pushing into my neck and causing spinal damage. They could not fit me into the scanner at the first NHS hospital so they sent me to a private hospital to do a CAT scan. But I could not get into that either. Even with an ultrasound they struggled to assess the injury due to my size. I was absolutely ashamed of myself. I was addicted to food." ‌ To ease the pain from his shoulder at night, he walked from one side of the bed to the other to turn the Covid pandemic, he "got bigger and bigger" due to fast food deliveries. He was worried that he would not be able to walk Clare, 32, down the aisle at her wedding six years ago, and would be unable to dance at the reception. He even contemplated ending his life. "I was so heavy that it hurt when I walked," he recalled."It was terrible on my knees, ankles and calves, they were painful, it got to the stage where I had to sit down every five minutes after taking a few steps." As he hit rock bottom in March, 2023, a friend persuaded him to join Slimming World. In his first week, he lost 5.5lbs; in the second week, it was half a stone. And he has not missed a weekly session since, a total of 126 consecutive weeks' attendance. He thanked his friends David Dickinson of DDK Airbrushing, and Steph Burgess - Slimming World's Woman of the Year in 2007, for their support. Divorced Andy, 63, proud grandad to Clare's son Remi, six, said: "I haven't looked back." ‌ He has given up bacon sandwiches, drinks with four sugars and doughnuts to cook with healthy supplies of protein. Many of his taxi customers simply do not realise it is him if they have not seen him for a while. He joked: "It is hard to describe my life now. "I just enjoy doing normal things. I have a George and Dragon tattoo, and one fella told me that even that had lost weight. "Many passengers do not recognise me and apologise when they realise who I am. I always tell them not to worry. The main thing is that I am happy."

Ben Scott, from Caia Park, was given the tragic diagnosis last month. The disease gradually affects the nerves in the brain and spinal cord, eventually taking away the ability to move, speak, eat, and breathe. However, stem cell treatment that lies in Beijing, China, could change the course of his illness. Ben and his family (Image: UGC) The cost of the treatment and travel, as well as private rehabilitative care in the UK, would be around £50,000. A GoFundMe page has raised over £8,000 so far. It can be accessed here. In an effort to boost the funds, volunteer-run amateur boxing club, Queens Park ABC is hosting a sponsored walk on Sunday, August 17. Ben and his long-term partner, Zoe Powell. (Image: UGC) Everyone is welcome to take part, with sponsorship forms and raffle tickets available at the gym located at the Queenscourt Complex in Queensway. Participants will begin at the Bridge End pub and hotel in Llangollen at 9am and finish at the Kings Mill pub in Wrexham. At 2pm, there will be a party with food and refreshments. A spokesperson from the club said: "One thing I can say about our community is that in times of crisis we all come together and help each other out. "Ben's a Queen's Park lad through and through so let's all make it a special day for him and his family." MORE CHARITY NEWS The 43-year-old is determined to keep fighting, despite being told he may have weeks, months or a couple of years to live. Ben has already lost grip in his hands and has largely lost the use of his arms. Brother-in-law Terry Powell said: "He's deteriorating very fast now so we are pretty desperate to get him there." While the treatment could not cure the disease, it could slow down its progression.
