Hundreds of students take part in anti-drug awareness rallies at Nellore, Ongole

On the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, SPSR Nellore and Prakasam district administrations organised several rallies and awareness programmes in Nellore and Ongole respectively on Thursday.
In Nellore, a rally was conducted from RTC Bus Stand to Kasturbha Kalakshetram, which was followed by a human chain formation at KVR Circle. A meeting was held later at Kasturba Kalakshetram. The events were hosted as per the directions from the State government to create awareness against drug abuse. Along with 600 students, Superintendent of Police (SP) G. Krishnakanth, Joint Collector K. Karthik and several officials participated in the programme.
Meanwhile in Ongole, an awareness programme was organised at the Police Parade Grounds, from where a rally was conducted till Addanki Bus Stand Centre. Over 1,000 people, including students, self-help group (SHG) women, ASHA workers, anganwadi staff, other employees, and people participated in this rally.
Prakasam SP A.R. Damodar encouraged the participants to scan a QR code created as part of the 'Nisha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan' programme and enter their name and other details to avail a certificate of participation in the anti-drug campaign.

She also encouraged people to report any instances of drug buying, selling or consumption by calling the helpline number 1933. "This campaign needs everyone's involvement. If we come together, I truly believe we can completely eliminate drug consumption and trafficking from our society," she said. She said the Prime Minister had laid out a national vision to make India drug-free by 2047, and Delhi govt is resolute in carrying out every responsibility towards achieving this goal. "When India celebrates 100 years of independence in 2047, we must be able to present it as a healthy, empowered, and drug-free nation," she said. Gupta said that in the first four months of 2025, police has arrested over 1,100 people. "Delhi govt is not just running programmes. It is leading a people's movement against drugs," she said.

Excise Minister Kollu Ravindra appealed to parents to spend time with their children to keep them away from vices. Participating in a rally organised by Krishna district police in connection with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking here on Thursday, the Minister asked the parents to observe the movements of their wards and teach them about good and bad habits. APSRTC Chairman Konakalla Narayana Rao, Eluru Range IGP G.V.G. Ashok Kumar, Collector D.K. Balaji, Superintendent of Police (SP) R. Gangadhar Rao and officers of various departments participated in the programme. Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) and the Mandal Legal Services Committee, has organised a legal literacy and drug abuse awareness camp at Vikas Engineering College in Nunna on Thursday. Vijayawada Third Additional Senior Civil Judge Venkateswara Rao, who attended the programme, asked the students to identify those who were addicted to drugs and report to the officials. He urged the students to utilise the make use of the legal services at hand in this regard. Bezawada Bar Association president A.K. Basha, Vikas Engineering College chairman Narsareddy, principal Parameshwar Rao and students also participated. The NCC Army Wing of Maris Stella College took out a rally against drugs. NCC 4 Girls Battalion Commanding Officer Col. Balinder Singh asked the cadets and the students to take measures to prevent drugs. Principal Jasintha Quadras, Anti-Drug Committee coordinator Ramakrishna, Army Associate Officer Captain Sailaja, Degree College vice-principal Usha Kumari, Navy officer Swapna Unnam and students participated in the rally.

1 2 Silchar: Law enforcement agencies in Assam's Barak Valley are ramping up efforts to combat illicit drug trafficking, a growing concern in the region known as a key corridor in the narcotics trade, reports BB Goswami. Cachar additional SP (Crime) Rajat Kumar Pal, speaking at an awareness programme at Silchar Press Club on Thursday, said police are actively working to neutralise trafficking networks. "We are committed to intensifying surveillance, strengthening border controls, and fostering community vigilance," Pal said. The programme, organised by the PIB, Assam, under the Union ministry of information and broadcasting, marked the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
