Shinde Visits Delhi Second Time In 7 Days, Meets PM Modi & Amit Shah Ahead Of Civic Polls

Last Updated: During his meeting with PM Narendra Modi, Maharashtra deputy CM Eknath Shinde congratulated him on the success of 'Operation Sindoor' and 'Operation Mahadev' Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was in New Delhi on Wednesday, where he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. This is his second trip to the national capital in seven days. During his meeting with Modi, Shinde congratulated him on the success of 'Operation Sindoor' and 'Operation Mahadev'. After his meeting with Shah, he said their discussion centred on administrative matters, particularly the upcoming elections for local governing bodies like the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and other civic bodies in Maharashtra. 'I regularly visit Delhi during the Parliament session and, this time, our MPs also met the Union home minister. We discussed issues related to their constituencies, especially matters that require coordination with the central government," Shinde told reporters. 'In the NDA meeting held yesterday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Home Minister Amit Shah, mentioning that he is the longest-serving home minister of the country. The Prime Minister also expressed that Shah still has more work to do in the future, and the alliance partners honoured him for his efforts and contribution." The visit is part of routine coordination between central and state leadership, especially with the upcoming civic elections. The BMC polls, significant for all major political parties, are expected to be announced soon. During the visit, Shinde was accompanied by key members of the Shiv Sena and was expected to meet several other senior leaders in Delhi. He stressed that these visits are part of his regular duties as deputy, especially when Parliament is in session. His meetings with national leaders come at a time when coordination between the Centre and state is crucial to expedite development projects and ensure policy implementation at the grassroots. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Turning to ‘spiritual powers' to fight ‘vote jihad' led to Mahayuti's victory: CM Fadnavis

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said he and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde turned to the 'spiritual powers' in the state to counter the 'vote jihad' experiment observed during last year's Lok Sabha election in May which led to their unprecedented victory in the assembly poll later in Nov. "An experiment was conducted in the name of 'vote jihad' during the Lok Sabha poll. Some people united to defeat nationalist thoughts. When we unearthed their conspiracy, I and Shinde Saheb, appealed to the spiritual powers in Maharashtra," he said. Fadnavis was speaking at an event organised by spiritual leader Ramgiri Maharaj at Shani Devgaon village in Vaijapur taluka of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP's Mahayuti alliance suffered a setback in Maharashtra during the Lok Sabha election but made a remarkable comeback six months later in the assembly poll. "We told Ramgiri Maharaj and other seers in Maharashtra that this (vote jihad) is not a political invasion but a clear attack on our culture. There is a feeling that a handful of people are uniting to defeat the thoughts of nationalism and our sants," Fadnavis said. The CM said Maharashtra would have witnessed attacks on temples and its culture, as in the past, had the vote jihad experiment succeeded. "Govts come and go. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like They Are Unstoppable: The Most Beautiful and Talented Female Athletes Undo No post is permanent. However, this country and 'dharma' should remain united and intact," he said. Fadnavis said he bowed to spiritual leaders as they ignite the minds of people. "Ramgiri Maharaj and the others told people that they have bury caste differences to save our culture," the CM said, adding that their power was seen in Mahayuti's 'unprecedented' victory. BJP won 132 seats, Shiv Sena 57 and NCP 41 during the 2024 assembly election in the 288-member legislative assembly. In his speech, the CM said but he met the seer to express gratitude. Fadnavis also announced govt's support for a Rs 109-crore development plan of 'Sarala Bet', a shrine under the aegis of Ramgiri Maharaj, and the approval to construct a barrage on a river at Shani Devgaon village. Work on the diversion project to bring excess water from west-flowing rivers to Marathwada would begin this year, he added.

J&K bans 25 books for promoting ‘false narratives and terrorism', including one by Arundhati Roy

The Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered a ban on 25 books including those for allegedly propagating 'false narrative and secessionism' in the Union Territory. Arundhati Roy's 'Azadi'; constitutional expert AG Noorani's 'The Kashmir Dispute 1947–2012'; political scientist Sumantra Bose's 'Kashmir at the Crossroads' and 'Contested Lands' are among the 25 banned books. The government has ordered the forfeiture of 25 books, along with their copies and related documents.(Representative Image) A notification of the Home Department in Jammu and Kashmir issued on Tuesday (August 5), signed by Principal Secretary Chandraker Bharti, said credible evidence shows that false narratives and secessionist literature often disguised as historical or political commentary have played a key role 'behind youth participation violence and terrorism.' 'This literature would deeply impact the psyche of youth by promoting culture of grievance, victimhood and terrorist heroism. Some of the means by which this literature has contributed to the radicalization of youth in J&K include distortion of historical facts, glorification of terrorists, vilification of security forces, religious radicalization, promotion of alienation, pathway to violence and terrorism,' the notification reads. The government has declared 25 books by various publishing houses including Routledge, Stanford University Press, Oxford University Press as 'forfeited' under Section 98 of Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023. The government said that these books have been 'found to excite secessionism and endangering sovereignty and integrity of India', thereby, attracting the provisions of sections 152, 196 & 197 of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023. While section 98 of BNSS 2023 gives power to the government to declare certain publications forfeited, Sections 152, 196, and 197 of the BNS 2023 deal with assault without grave provocation, obstruction of public servants, and failure to assist them when legally bound, respectively. The government has ordered the forfeiture of 25 books, along with their copies and related documents. This has come at a time when the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Friday, August 8, an application seeking directions to the central government to restore the statehood of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Incidentally, on August 5, 2019, the Centre scrapped Jammu and Kashmir's special status and bifurcated the state into two Union territories.
