Smart glasses focus on augmented reality (AR), overlaying digital elements onto the real world, unlike virtual reality (VR), which creates a fully immersive environment. Devices like Ray-Ban Meta combine miniaturized hardware and AI, with built-in cameras, microphones, speakers, and sensors. A tiny processor handles tasks like translation and object recognition, while Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connects them to phones. Many models support offline use and prescription lenses, with advanced versions offering real-time computer vision for more natural interactions without needing a phone screen.

However, like smartwatches, which didn't replace phones but complemented them, smart glasses face similar challenges: comfort, battery life, privacy concerns, and social acceptance. While smart glasses may become add-ons, replacing smartphones could take 10–20 years—if ever. The tech must become smarter and more socially-acceptable first.
Both consumer and enterprise segments face risks such as secret recording, data leaks, accidental capture of private conversations, and misuse of facial recognition. While firms are implementing safeguards like visible recording lights, audio prompts, and data encryption, these rely on ethical user behaviour. The US, EU, Canada, and Australia are beginning to regulate, with some banning smart glasses in specific areas and others requiring visible indicators when recording. Rules are essential before adoption.

There are reports of a possible interim trade deal between US and India before the July 9th tariff deadline. If that happens, that would be a positive. The regulatory action on Jane Street and its implications will be closely watched by the market. The volume of derivative trading is likely to take a hit impacting stock exchanges and some brokerages. This has implications for their stock prices, too. The short-term issues are unlikely to have any long-term impact on the market. Short-term dips can be used by long-term investors to buy high quality stocks, preferably in fairly valued largecaps. Last week, markets wrapped up the week on a positive note, even though trading remained largely rangebound. According to brokerage firm Choice Broking, the Nifty has resumed its upward trajectory after breaking out of its recent consolidation range. ' The index is currently in Wave 5 of an Elliott Impulse structure on the weekly chart, indicating a continuation of the bullish trend. As per Fibonacci extension, the next major upside targets are seen at 27,300 and 28,600. On the downside, key supports are placed at 25,000 and 24,500, where buying interest is likely to emerge,' the firm said. Support Levels: 25200-25000 Resistance Levels: 26000-26200 The Bank Nifty index ended the week at 57,031.90, down 0.72% compared to the previous week's close. While the weekly chart shows selling pressure at higher levels, the index has managed to stay above the important 57,000 level. The brokerage firm said that the Bank Nifty index is likely to face significant resistance in the 57,300–57,500 range. If the index continues to move higher, ICICIBANK from the private banking sector is expected to support the uptrend. Similarly, in the public sector banking space, SBIN and CANBK are anticipated to show strength. ' On the weekly timeframe, Bank Nifty is trading above all its key moving averages, including the short-term 20-day, medium-term 50-day, and long-term 200-day Exponential Moving Averages (EMA), indicating an overall upward trend. However, selling pressure at higher levels suggests that a consolidation phase is underway, with the index attempting to hold above the crucial 57,000 mark. Key downside support is seen in the 56,700–56,500 range. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) stands at 65.39, indicating a sideways move. This consolidation phase may lead to either a time-wise or price-wise correction as the index awaits fresh triggers for the next directional move,' it said. Google's AI Overviews hit by EU antitrust complaint from independent publishers
Alphabet's Google has been hit by an EU antitrust complaint over its AI Overviews from a group of independent publishers , which has also asked for an interim measure to prevent allegedly irreparable harm to them, according to a document seen by Reuters. Google's AI Overviews are AI-generated summaries that appear above traditional hyperlinks to relevant webpages and are shown to users in more than 100 countries. It began adding advertisements to AI Overviews last May. The company is making its biggest bet by integrating AI into search but the move has sparked concerns from some content providers such as publishers. The Independent Publishers Alliance document, dated June 30, sets out a complaint to the European Commission and alleges that Google abuses its market power in online search. "Google's core search engine service is misusing web content for Google's AI Overviews in Google Search, which have caused, and continue to cause, significant harm to publishers, including news publishers in the form of traffic, readership and revenue loss," the document said. It said Google positions its AI Overviews at the top of its general search engine results page to display its own summaries which are generated using publisher material and it alleges that Google's positioning disadvantages publishers' original content. "Publishers using Google Search do not have the option to opt out from their material being ingested for Google's AI large language model training and/or from being crawled for summaries, without losing their ability to appear in Google's general search results page," the complaint said. The Commission declined to comment. The UK's Competition and Markets Authority confirmed receipt of the complaint. Google said it sends billions of clicks to websites each day. "New AI experiences in Search enable people to ask even more questions, which creates new opportunities for content and businesses to be discovered," a Google spokesperson said. The Independent Publishers Alliance's website says it is a nonprofit community advocating for independent publishers, which it does not name. The Movement for an Open Web , whose members include digital advertisers and publishers, and British non-profit Foxglove Legal Community Interest Company , which says it advocates for fairness in the tech world, are also signatories to the complaint. They said an interim measure was necessary to prevent serious irreparable harm to competition and to ensure access to news. Google said numerous claims about traffic from search are often based on highly incomplete and skewed data. "The reality is that sites can gain and lose traffic for a variety of reasons, including seasonal demand, interests of users, and regular algorithmic updates to Search," the Google spokesperson said. Foxglove co-executive director Rosa Curling said journalists and publishers face a dire situation. "Independent news faces an existential threat: Google's AI Overviews," she told Reuters. "That's why with this complaint, Foxglove and our partners are urging the European Commission, along with other regulators around the world, to take a stand and allow independent journalism to opt out," Curling said. The three groups have filed a similar complaint and a request for an interim measure to the UK competition authority. The complaints echoed a U.S. lawsuit by a U.S. edtech company which said Google's AI Overviews is eroding demand for original content and undermining publishers' ability to compete that have resulted in a drop in visitors and subscribers.

Google has updated the icon for its Gemini app on both Android and iPhone, giving it a fresh and colourful new look. According to a report by 9To5Google, the latest update replaces the older design with a logo that used the same colour style which was used in other popular Google apps. The Blue is the predominant hue at the right, while the other colour points are red, yellow, and green. In April, Google updated the Gemini app icon on Android and iOS, making the blue more prominent, the overall look brighter, and the icon slightly larger. Later, a red version was introduced for AI Pro subscribers to mark it as a distinct part of Gemini. It now appears bolder and clearer, even when displayed at a small size. The design does not have the thin lines, which can often fade or become hard to see on smaller screens. Filling the space better Another improvement is that the icon now takes up more space inside the white circular background. This makes it easier to spot and gives it a more balanced look. The updated design also includes a slight gradient, which gives it a touch of depth similar to Google's main 'G' logo. With this new icon, Gemini fits right in with apps like Google Maps, Gmail, and Chrome, which also use the same four-colour style.
