Rajasthan: Crackers, drones banned in Jaipur, schools closed in Nagaur, Hanumangarh
In Jaipur, a complete ban has been imposed on the bursting of crackers and flying of drones, particularly during wedding ceremonies and public gatherings.
The directive has been issued by Additional Police Commissioner (Law and Order) Rameshwar Singh, citing heightened security risks. Changes have also been implemented at Jaipur Junction railway station, where multiple entry and exit points have been closed, including the gate near the DRM office.
Entry and exit will now only be permitted via Parshuram Circle. In addition, daily mock drills by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) will be held between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at key railway stations.
In Chomu, the administration has asked traders to close markets by 8 p.m., while also extending the ban on firecrackers and drones.
Police station in-charge Pradeep Sharma confirmed that special surveillance is underway at sensitive locations and disaster relief equipment is being mobilised. To handle potential threats, two detention centres have been established in Jaipur city.
Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph has directed all station in-charges to remain on high alert and monitor outsiders.
Strict verification procedures have been ordered, with immediate legal action to be taken against individuals with questionable documents or identity.
In response to growing concerns, all government and private schools and Anganwadis in Nagaur have been closed until further notice.
Hanumangarh District Collector has ordered the closure of schools, Anganwadis, and coaching institutes from tomorrow. In Pali district, the administration has taken over 36 private hospitals for emergency use. Orders have been issued by the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO).
Further, the National Lok Adalat, which was scheduled for Saturday in Jodhpur, Barmer, and Bikaner, has been postponed.
Rail services from Bikaner to Jaisalmer have been suspended for the past two days and will remain closed. The trains which have been cancelled till Sunday include Train 54760 – Suratgarh to Sriganganagar, Train 04770 – Sriganganagar to Hanumangarh and Train 04778 – Hanumangarh to Sadulpur.
In a significant development, two youths have been arrested in Gharsana for sharing sensitive military movement details on social media.
Authorities have emphasised that such acts will be dealt with strictly under relevant security laws. Authorities have been appealing to citizens to remain calm, follow official instructions, and avoid spreading unverified information. The situation is being closely monitored across all districts, said officials.

‘You are lying': Crucial witness in Jaipur Exp shootout sticks to testimony, counters the defence
Mumbai: The trial of former Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable Chetan Singh Chaudhary – accused of shooting down his senior officer and three identifiably Muslim passengers on board the Jaipur-Mumbai Superfast Express on the night of July 31, 2023 – was marked by drama on Wednesday and Thursday as Narendra Parmar, a crucial witness, stuck to his testimony despite intense cross examination by defence advocate Jaywant Patil. Former RPF constable Chetan Singh Chaudhary in court (HT Photo) Parmar, then RPF head constable and part of the four-member escort team on the train, had testified earlier that he had seen Singh take with him a bearded, kurta-clad passenger at gunpoint, whose body was later found near the toilet of the pantry car. He had also seen Chaudhary shoot another bearded, kurta-clad passenger in the chest even as the latter begged for mercy, Parmar had told the court during his examination-in-chief. On Wednesday and Thursday, defence advocate Patil went over Parmar's examination-in-chief with a fine toothcomb, asking him questions about every little detail. Patil probed the witness about the exact sequence and timing of events after the train halted at Borivali station, where bodies of the four victims were unloaded and Chaudhary was arrested. About the incident itself, Patil suggested that it was not possible for Parmar to see clearly what was unfolding inside the train compartment through its glass door, especially since the lights inside were switched off, or to hear any conversations as the train's noise would drown them out. He also alleged that the police had told Parmar what to say in his statement recorded under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) before a magistrate. Parmar dismissed the suggestions and stuck to whatever he had said in his examination-in-chief, telling the defence lawyer, 'Your questions are all wrong; you are mixing up things.' The former head constable said that he could see clearly what was going on through the glass door. While the compartment was lit with a night light, the area near the toilet was brightly lit, he said. The noise of the train was overbearing only at some points, he replied. The police had nothing to do with what he had told the magistrate, he said, adding, 'I told the magistrate what I had seen.' Towards the end of the cross-examination, stung by the suggestions of the defence, Parmar repeatedly counter-questioned Patil, saying, 'Kaun bola? (Who says so?)' At one point, Patil replied, 'I say so', to which Parmar retorted, 'Aap jhooth bol rahe ho (You are lying).' That became his standard response thereafter. Parmar, 60, was one-and-a-half years away from retirement when he was dismissed from service for his 'failure to discharge his duty' that night. He had testified earlier that though he had seen Chaudhary ready to shoot his targets, the presence of other passengers between him and Chaudhary, and also behind Chaudhary, had stopped him from using his firearm against the former constable as a preventive measure.

Rs 6 lakh worth of banned tobacco seized at LTT
The Vigilance Department of the Central Railway, in coordination with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), intercepted an illegal consignment of banned tobacco products on Wednesday that was being transported through the Railway's parcel booking system. The operation took place on August 13 after a specific tip-off and sustained surveillance. A vigilance team, along with RPF personnel, conducted an inspection of consignments that arrived by Godan Express train No. 11056, which operates along the Gonda–Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) route. The team monitored the unloading of consignments by being present ahead of the train's scheduled arrival. Their suspicion was drawn towards one consignment booked from Gonda to LTT. The shipment comprised 10 packages weighing 564 kg. The team opened the package in the presence of the Chief Parcel Supervisor and RPF officials to recover 'flavoured chewing tobacco, flavoured pan masala and other banned tobacco products'. Officials estimated the value of the goods at approximately Rs 6 lakh. The entire consignment was seized and handed over to the RPF for investigation and legal action. In an official statement, Central Railway said the vigilance team had 'demonstrated an example of alertness, dedication and efficiency,' noting that the department had solved 'numerous such cases' in recent times.

State on alert for I-Day celebrations
Ranchi: State police headquarter has sounded a general alert across Jharkhand in order to ensure law and order during Independence Day celebrations on Friday. Police have also intensified operations in the extremists affected areas in this regard. Jharkhand police spokesperson and IG (operation) Michel Raj said, "The alert had been issued though there is no input related to any specific threat. The superintendents of police have been asked to take precautions to ensure peaceful celebrations. Additional forces have been sent to Ranchi and Dumka for state-level functions." Police have been asked to keep vigil at public places, including project sites, an official stated. Khunti sub-divisional police officer Varun Rajak said, "Anti-extremist operations have been held in view of the I Day celebrations. Police would conduct the exercise in the bordering and the sensitive areas of the district on Friday as well." Inspector general (South Chhotnagpur) Mamoj Kaushik said enhanced security would be in place around Morabadi ground with more CCTVs being set up for surveillance. The venue would also be surveyed by drones. Railway Protection Force is also on the vigil as they are checking the passengers and their bags before entry to the stations.
