Delhi Govt shortlists 75 ‘CM Shri Schools' — Here's what sets them apart
Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood said on June 19 that the Bharatiya Janata Party government in the national capital has provisionally shortlisted schools for the 75 newly announced 'CM Shri Schools'. These schools are expected to become operational in the coming weeks, Sood said.
"Most of the CM Shri Schools have been shortlisted. These schools will start functioning soon, and preparations to operationalise them are currently underway," Sood said.
Sood said a number of existing government schools are being upgraded and developed into CM Shri Schools. The Directorate of Education has already initiated the recruitment process for teaching and leadership positions in these schools.
The Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in the national capital after 27 years by defeating the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led by Arvind Kejriwal in the assembly polls held in February this year. Remember, public school education has also been a focus of the previous AAP government in Delhi
In a circular issued on June 5, the department invited applications from teachers, Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs), Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs), Primary Teachers (PRTs), and other teaching staff, having at least five years before they retire.
Another circular issued on June 10 opened applications for principals and vice-principals who wish to transfer to the new schools, with the same retirement conditions.
The CM Shri Schools initiative is an education reform launched by the Chief Minister Rekha Gupta-led Delhi government in its 2025–26 budget. It builds on the existing PM Shri model from the Centre.
An official quoted by the news agency PTI said these upcoming schools are designed to be sustainable and environmentally friendly, operating as zero-waste and solar-powered campuses.
"These schools will have AI-enabled libraries, smart classrooms equipped with Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) tools, smartboards, and biometric attendance systems," the official said.
The schools will also feature robotics laboratories to foster interest in the field among students, he added.
According to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's Delhi Budget speech, a corpus of ₹ 100 crore has been allocated for setting up these schools.
CM Shri schools are model government schools upgraded under a scheme similar to the Centre's PM Shri (Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India), which aims to provide exemplary National Education Policy ‑ 2020 aligned education.
The Delhi government initially announced 60 CM Shri schools in March 2025, with ₹ 100 crore allocated. Later, the number was raised to 75 schools, which were to be operational within a year.
-The schools will undergo an infrastructure overhaul, including facilities for smart boards, AI tools, robotics, labs for science, computers, languages, and renovated classrooms.
-The curriculum in these schools will be in accordance with NEP 2020.
-The Directorate of Education has already initiated the recruitment process for teaching and leadership positions in these schools.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has seized over 300 passbooks linked to mule bank accounts, allegedly used to divert Delhi government funds from a classroom construction "scam" during the AAP's previous tenure. The ED's investigation, triggered by an ACB FIR, revealed financial misappropriation exceeding Rs 2,000 crore in the construction of additional classrooms, with cost escalations and irregularities in project execution. Remove Ads More than 300 passbooks, linked to mule bank accounts opened in the names of labourers, have been seized through which Delhi government funds sourced from the classroom-construction "scam" during the previous AAP regime were "diverted", the Enforcement Directorate (ED) said on federal probe agency conducted searches in connection with the case at 37 locations in Delhi on June AAP had termed the ED action a "desperate" attempt to divert public attention and asserted that the allegations against its leaders were "politically motivated".The ED case, filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), stems from an FIR registered by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of Delhi on April 30 against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and former ministers in the cabinet of chief minister Arvind Kejriwal Satyendar Jain and some 53, held the finance and education portfolios in the previous AAP government in the national capital and Jain, 60, was in-charge of the public works department and some other ED statement said the agency officials have "unearthed substantial incriminating evidence from the premises of a private contractor"."Among the materials seized were original departmental files belonging to the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi, as well as rubber stamps bearing the names and designations of officials from the Public Works Department (PWD)," it officials also found that "322 bank passbooks linked to mule accounts (used for transacting illicit funds) opened in the names of labourers used to divert government funds under the guise of legitimate transactions".Some "forged" letterheads of private contractors and shell entities, which were used to generate fake procurement records and fictitious purchase bills, were also seized during the ED said the case pertains to financial "misappropriation" exceeding Rs 2,000 crore in the construction of 12,748 additional classrooms by the PWD between 2015 and an initial requirement for 2,405 classrooms, the project scope was "arbitrarily" increased to 7,180 equivalent classrooms and, subsequently, to 12,748 rooms "without" proper sanction or approvals, resulting in "massive" cost escalations, the agency said there was an "unjustified" adoption of richer specifications proposed by the executing company named Babbar and Babbar Associates and execution of duplicate and inflated works."Cost escalations of up to 49.03 per cent were observed across priority-I and priority-II phases," it agency also claimed to have found "several dummy firms during the searches, which had no real infrastructure, documentation or operational legitimacy, but were shown to have received substantial payments for construction activities relating to the additional classrooms".The AAP said on June 18 that the "so-called raids are nothing but a desperate attempt to divert public attention from the reality. The allegations are baseless, politically motivated and timed only to distract from the BJP's anti-people actions".Sisodia and Jain have been questioned by the ACB in the ACB FIR came about after alleged lapses in the case were flagged by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders like Kapil Mishra, Harish Khurana and Neelkant Bakshi had, in 2019, filed a complaint with the ACB alleging serious financial irregularities in the construction of classrooms across three zones of ACB alleged that the total expenditure incurred on the project amounted to Rs 2,892 crore, pushing the per-classroom cost to Rs 24.86 lakh, compared to the estimated Rs 5 lakh under standard claimed that the project was awarded to 34 contractors, most of whom were allegedly linked to the AAP.

New Delhi [India], June 20 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday said that former minister Manish Sisodia will have to face the consequences of his actions, following a summons issued to him by the Anti-Corruption Bureau. Speaking to reporters, Rekha Gupta said, 'Soon all of them will have to appear in court. Arvind Kejriwal will also have to come here from Punjab. Delhi does not need such fugitive leaders. He will have to pay for the misdeeds he has done.' CM Gupta also said that her government is working on a planned redevelopment of the city and aims to relocate slum dwellers in an orderly way. She also said the government is studying Mumbai's Dharavi model to help improve living conditions in Delhi. 'These people (AAP) just wanted political gains and never thought about running the city... How will it work if we give houses, and still people don't vacate the slums?... Delhi needs a revival. For this, we are also studying the Dharavi model of Mumbai... Delhi's redevelopment will be done in a planned manner... We will not let anything happen to the slum dwellers of Delhi who have been permanent residents here for years... The 50,000 flats built by the last government remained vacant even though slum dwellers had deposited money with the government for years... Atishi said that ACB summoned Manish Sisodia in the 'fake' classroom scam, and it is yet another addition to the list of BJP's fake cases against AAP. The AAP leader alleged that in the past 10 years, the BJP has filed over 200 cases against the AAP leaders, but still not a single rupee has been found despite all the investigations. Manish Sisodia said that excellent work has been done in Delhi in education and brilliant classrooms and schools were built during his tenure. On the complaints of BJP leaders Harish Khurana, Kapil Mishra and Neelkanth Bakshi, the Anti-Corruption Branch, GNCTD has registered a case against Manish Sisodia and Satyendra Jain, the then Ministers of the erstwhile Delhi Govt. of Aam Aadmi Party, regarding allegations of a scam to the tune of Rs. 2,000 crore in the construction of school classrooms/buildings in NCT of Delhi at exorbitant costs.
