Devanur Mahadeva urges Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to implement internal quota without delay

The letter comes ahead of a special meeting of the State Cabinet on Tuesday to discuss the report, which was submitted to the government on August 4. Dalit left and right communities have been divided on the report, with the former demanding its implementation at the earliest and the latter calling it 'unscientific.'
In his letter, Mr. Mahadeva says that he writes amid 'confusion and anguish' that implementation of the report might be pushed indefinitely because of the controversies surrounding it. With the government recruitment process linked to internal reservation implementation, the writer has expressed apprehension that postponing it might lead to thousands of youths being denied employment.
The letter also batted for raising the reservation for the Scheduled Castes (SC) and the Scheduled Tribes (ST), which he argues could put an end to some of the confusion.
Commending the commission for covering 94% of the population and conducting a thorough survey, Mr. Mahadeva also said: 'This is not to suggest that the objections against the report should be brushed aside.'
He said that hiking the quantum of quota and expanding the powers and functions of both the SC and ST commissions for periodic revision of reservation policies in accordance with data would end much of the confusion.
Protest on Monday
Meanwhile, the Dalit right groups have upped their ante and announced a protest against the report on Monday at Freedom Park under the banner of the Karnataka Rajya Balagai Jathigala Okkoota.
They have alleged that the report is 'unscientific, incomplete and prepared with mala fide intentions', as it goes against the interest of the Dalit right communities. They have demanded that the government should reject the report and conduct a fresh survey.

Gandhi further cited the Mahadevapura Assembly segment in Bengaluru Central, where Congress alleged over one lakh fake votes had swung the outcome in the BJP's favour. Reiterating his party's commitment to social justice, Gandhi said the Congress would conduct a nationwide caste census and push to remove the 50 per cent cap on reservations. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of making false promises on the issue and warned that the government would not act sincerely. The event was attended by INDIA bloc leaders including K.C. KDA Chairman demands early implementation of SEP
Kannada Development Authority (KDA) Chairman Prof. Purushotham Bilimale has demanded that the State government implement the new proposed State Education Policy (SEP) at the earliest. In a letter written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and concerned education ministers of the state, he said that the SEP Commission had given a 'very comprehensive' education policy, in a first-of-its-kind exercise. 'If the report is implemented properly, the state's education sector will change radically over the next decade,' he said. Further, he stated that several studies have confirmed that the three-language formula forcibly imposes Hindi and does not help improve the cognitive and academic ability of students. 'In this context, the SEP report, which has recommended a two-language policy with Kannada and English for the State, is a very timely step,' Prof. Bilimale said. 'It is important to note that the commission had not ignored non-Kannada and non-English languages while recommending a two-language policy. The report states that Kannada and English languages will remain mandatory as the first or second language, and that interested students will be allowed to learn their mother tongue as a third language,' he explained, adding that this was much needed in 'today's complex linguistic environment'. 'The recommendations of the SEP are mainly based on the Constitution of India, the Kannada Language Comprehensive Development Act, 2022, The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, The Kannada Language Learning Act, 2015 and all aspects of the National Education Policy 1968, 1986, 1992 and 2020, among other policies and laws. This is a constitutionally sound policy and can serve as a model education policy for the country,' he said, demanding its early implementation.

Appa, the Prime Minister has said that Appa had devoted his life to the expansion of the social and spiritual service activities of the samsthan.
