Dr Abhay Patil, Cong's Akola candidate in 2024 LS polls, quits
Congress
leader and noted orthopaedic surgeon Dr Abhay Patil, who contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election on a Congress ticket, has quit the party. He announced his resignation through a Facebook post on Tuesday, stating that he is stepping down from the party's primary membership.
The resignation sparked speculation within political circles, particularly due to its timing — coming shortly after the announcement of a new District Congress Committee. Sources claimed that Dr Patil was upset over not being consulted during the formation of the new leadership panel. But he cited personal reasons. "Being occupied with my medical profession and social work, I was unable to dedicate sufficient time to party activities.
Holding a position without contributing actively is against my principle. Hence, I decided to step down," he said.
He denied any dissatisfaction with the newly-appointed district committee. "There is no resentment. The party has always supported me and given me numerous opportunities," he said.
In 2024, Dr Patil contested from Akola constituency as a Congress candidate. He secured 4,16,404 votes but lost to
BJP
's Anup Dhotre. He is former general secretary of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee and regional coordinator of Maratha Kranti Morcha for Akola and Washim. He is actively involved in various religious and social initiatives.

Congress to stage protest outside Assembly against slum demolitions
The Congress's Delhi unit on Sunday said it will stage a protest outside the Assembly on the first day of the Monsoon Session on Monday, primarily against the demolition drives carried out in slum clusters across the city. The party said it will raise other issues such as the 'deteriorating law and order' situation, the 'false promise' of ₹2,500 per month to the women, and waterlogging. It will also protest against the school education Bill for being 'anti-parent and anti-education'. 'After Rahul Gandhi raised the issue of demolition of JJ Clusters in the Lok Sabha, the Chief Minister of Delhi [Rekha Gupta], under pressure, said that not a single slum in Delhi will be demolished, but on the other hand, asserted that the slums along the railway lines cannot be saved. He [Rahul Gandhi] urged the Delhi government to clarify its intentions towards the slum dwellers, instead of playing with the lives of the poor people,' Mr. Yadav said. Alleging that the Arvind Kejriwal government has locked thousands of flats constructed by the Congress under the Rajiv Rattan Housing Scheme, aimed at providing better living conditions for the poor, for 11 years, Mr. Yadav said, 'Those houses should be repaired and allotted soon to the residents of slums.' Meanwhile, on Saturday, Ms. Gupta inspected government flats built for economically weaker sections (EWS) in 2011 in Sultanpuri, which are in a dilapidated condition. She said that the government is working to meet the demand for one million houses.

No threat to Cong MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa's son: AAP MLA
1 2 Amritsar: An Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA on Sunday termed claims of Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa's son receiving threats as "completely false and fabricated". Talking to media, Dera Baba Nanak MLA Gurdeep Singh Randhawa claimed that the statement was made to malign the image of the AAP govt. "His son didn't receive any threat," said the MLA. He claimed that the person who made an inappropriate comment on his son's post was arrested, and a police investigation revealed the family did not receive any threat calls. "This was confirmed by the SSP of Batala himself," he added. Despite repeated attempts, Batala could SSP not be contacted for comment. KTR questions HYDRAA's ‘selective' demolitions
Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Sunday questioned why HYDRAA officials, who claim to promote water conservation in Hyderabad, have failed to issue notices to Congress leaders who have built houses on lake beds. He accused HYDRAA of turning a blind eye to properties belonging to chief minister A Revanth Reddy and minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, alleging that all of them were constructed on lake beds. Speaking at a preparatory meeting for the Jubilee Hills bypoll, the senior BRS leader expressed frustration that HYDRAA appears to target only the homes of the poor. "Over the past decade, the BRS worked to eliminate regional and religious tensions in the area. Yet, within just a year and a half of Congress coming to power, these tensions resurfaced," he claimed. He predicted that the BRS would win the Jubilee Hills seat and asserted that Congress would not secure a single seat in Hyderabad this time.
