The Buccaneers – Season 2 Episode 4 'Ice Cream' Recap & Review
Episode 4 of The Buccaneers season 2 begins with Theo dancing about the house. It's obviously his way of trying to handle the overwhelming stress he's had to handle after the betrayal from both Nan and the Dowager Duchess. He throws his weight around, showing up at the fund-raider and immediately making a scene.
All of this is his way of impressing Lizzy, who's in attendance and watching him. This act, coupled with his new wild-child persona is turning heads in a big way. Only one interests him though, and that's Lizzy. Despite the wedding with Hector being two weeks away, it seems she's having second thoughts now.
When Lizzy asks what's going on with him, Theo believes his life is just getting started. It's hard to tell if he's masking his pain behind this or if he genuinely does feel alive.
Unfortunately, Theo's arrival also has the adverse effect of overshadowing Hector, who's not happy that this fund-raiser has turned into 'The Theo Show'. He's not happy and neither is Lizzy. The latter decides to fight on his behalf but as things get heated, he and Theo wind up kissing.
Meanwhile, the Dowager Duchess decides to head out and do a spot of gardening. Reede joins her and listens to her worries, specifically how she's not sure if Nan is going to come back. He encourages her to let her frustrations out.
This storyline is quite interesting, seeing as it plays parallel to that of Guy and Nan. Reede and the Dowager had an opportunity to run away together in the past, but the Dowager smiles, retorting that fantasies are usually more appealing than the real thing.
Interestingly, Reede actually offers the Dowager a more permanent accommodation, offering a place to stay with him. She's not going to leave though, believing she needs to keep an eye on Theo and try to stabilize her house. But hey, they can keep the dream alive a little longer, right?
This idea of fulfilling fantasies is particularly evident for Nan, who shows up to see Jinny and Guy. She admits she's left Theo to be with them and she's not going back. Things are awkward though, especially between Guy and Nan.
Guy is distant and very standoffish with Nan, and the awkward silence in the house is becoming unbearable. The pair do eventually hash it out outside, with Nan unwilling to understand the sacrifices he made for her. She blows him off, claiming that it's easy given he gets to 'live this wonderful life'.
Eventually they do settle their differences, going for ice cream instead. In their absence, Lord James Seadown manages to track Jinny down. He hands over his card and encourages her not to 'give up on their family'. Seadown does leave eventually without causing a scene, but it certainly rattles her. Notably, she doesn't mention any of this to Nan or Guy.
Meanwhile, Conchita plays matchmaker for Honoria at the fundraiser, trying to set her up with one of the men in attendance. Honoria is not happy that Conchita is playing cupid but the latter brings up that she has a child now so things are a bit more complicated. Plus, she promised her mum she'd do this.
As for Nan, she realizes that she needs to finish what she started. Despite coming to see Guy, Nan has decided to head back and help her sister out by getting the bill passed. Guy is not happy, admitting he actually resents her for coming and getting his hopes up.
As the episode closes out, Lizzy shows up to see Theo and decides to spend the night with him, where they end up having sex.
The Episode Review
Is it just me or does this Lizzy/Theo affair just feel so manufactured and crowbarred in for the sake of drama? They've had zero attraction to each other before 2 or 3 episodes ago and suddenly she's all over him and unable to keep her hands off. It just feels completely unnatural and breaks the flow of the episode, although I do appreciate it's here simply for the sake of stirring things up.
The reunion between Guy and Nan is quite good though and it's edited well with the drama involving the Dowager Duchess too, with her story about how a fantasy is sometimes better than the real thing certainly ringing true here.
As we reach the midway point of this one, it remains to be seen exactly how anything is going to be resolved. How will Nan react to Lizzy? What will happen with Hector?

Theo's behaviour leaves Todd confused in Corrie as he taken away by the police
Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce)'s relationship with Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) in Coronation Street hasn't been plain sailing by any means. It was quickly revealed that Theo was struggling with his sexuality. As their relationship has developed we've learned more about Theo's past and that he endured a very bigoted upbringing in which he was put through conversion therapy to try to 'cure' his gay feelings. This has left him with lasting trauma, and the reappearance of a man called Noah (Richard Winsor) – who was involved in the conversion therapy and still wants to 'save' Theo from himself – has made things so much worse. Noah is in a relationship with Theo's estranged wife, Danielle (Natalie Anderson), and this has further complicated an already difficult situation, with Theo's love for his children being used against him. What doesn't seem to be in doubt is his affection for Todd, with Theo recently suggesting they should try to find a place of their own to live together. But there have been hints that Theo's attitude to Todd can be quite controlling, as we saw when Todd was getting close to James Bailey (Jason Callender) and Theo warned him off. 'We're starting to spot some anger management issues on Theo's part, at the very least,' Gareth Pierce told Metro. 'There's some flashes of anger that have left Todd shocked but equally, because he's had that insight into the conversion therapy and where Theo is coming into this new life from, he's perhaps willing to guide him through it. 'Our audience are probably also spotting some of those flashes of jealousy and perhaps a kind of need to control that maybe Todd is not currently spotting or doesn't want to spot.' This behaviour is in the spotlight again in coming episodes. Todd is excited to hear that the corner shop flat is up for rent and suggests to Theo that they could consider it. But soon Theo is irritated when Todd decides to bring George (Tony Maudsley) to Dev (Jimmi Harkishin)'s stag do. As Todd starts enjoying himself at the party, Theo says he has a headache and insists they go home. Soon after this incident, Theo suggests a night out and is annoyed when Todd says he planned to spend the evening with Summer (Harriet Bibby). When she tells Theo he's very welcome to join them for pizza in front of the telly, he refuses and sulkily says he's going to the pub. There's a more disturbing incident to come. Theo is approached by police officer Jess (Donnaleigh Bailey), who says there's been a report of an incident at the precinct and he needs to come to the police station to answer questions. Coronation Street confirms dark scenes as concern grows for Todd
Things got intense for Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) in tonight's Coronation Street, after an enormous fight with Theo Silverton's (James Cartwright) family. Amid his journey to help Theo come to terms with his sexuality, Todd has crossed paths with Noah – the man who subjected Theo to conversion therapy. It is safe to say that Noah and Todd's beliefs don't align, and recent scenes saw Todd lash out at him. In tonight's episode, Todd had to face Noah in a restorative justice session, in order to avoid any further repercussions for his actions. Despite not getting much out of the session itself, Todd made a shocking discovery when he returned to the community centre to collect his phone. He overheard Noah calling his new girlfriend – Theo's ex-wife Danielle (Natalie Anderson)! Meanwhile, Theo had planned a lunch with Millie and Miles, and had invited Danielle to join them at the Bistro. Unfortunately, things took a dramatic turn when Todd came barrelling in to reveal Danielle and Noah's relationship to Theo. Theo was understandably hurt, but the situation got even more out of hand when Miles launched at Todd for ruining their family dinner. While attempting to separate them, Theo ended up punching Miles in the face, leaving everyone stunned. Following his violent outburst, Theo blamed Todd for Miles' injury, and stormed out. Several hours later, he finally returned, having left Todd worrying about him. More Trending However, Theo was unremorseful, and asserted that he was going to bed, and that Todd should sleep downstairs. A confused Todd pointed out that Theo was a guest in his house, but Theo doubled down and threatened that Todd would never see him again if he didn't sleep on the sofa.
