Cam Newton feels ignored by Madden franchise, says EA never treated him like an NFL superstar

Cam Newton finally speaks out on never making the Madden cover (Getty Images) Despite being one of the NFL's most electrifying players during his prime, Cam Newton has never graced the cover of the iconic Madden video game. For someone who was once the face of the Carolina Panthers and a 2015 league MVP, this omission hasn't gone unnoticed—especially not by Newton himself. MVP, Super Bowl run, cultural icon—but Cam Newton still left off Madden cover , and he's had enough The former quarterback recently took to his 4th and 1 podcast to air his frustrations with EA Sports, and it's clear the snub still stings. From 2011 to 2018, Newton wasn't just one of the most recognizable figures in the league—he was a dominant force both on the field and in Madden ratings. Yet, he was repeatedly overlooked while players like Peyton Hillis, Rob Gronkowski, and Odell Beckham Jr. claimed the coveted cover spot. While being passed over for the cover was one thing, Newton is now irked for another reason. EA Sports recently brought in former wide receiver Chad Ochocinco to assist with player ratings in the Madden franchise—a decision that has Newton scratching his head. 'Do you know what these thumbs will do? I've never seen Chad play,' Newton said on his podcast. '... I feel highly disrespected EA hasn't called me for Madden ratings.' Not only is Newton convinced he's a better Madden player than Ochocinco, but he also challenged him to a head-to-head matchup, confidently stating, 'He plays FIFA!' It's not just talk, either. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Concentrated Siberian Ginseng Extract 2oz Superior Ginseng Undo Newton is an active gamer who frequently streams both Madden and College Football 25. He takes the game seriously—not relying on powerhouse teams to mask weak gameplay. 'Scheme, not the team,' he said, proudly claiming that he never uses a team rated 86 overall or higher. Newton also poked fun at how Ochocinco might approach a matchup, suggesting that he'd probably pick a team like the Kansas City Chiefs or Baltimore Ravens—top-tier franchises that give casual gamers an edge. But Newton isn't fazed. He trusts his strategy and skill, not just raw team ratings, to win games. His candid criticism of EA Sports speaks to a larger conversation about how players are recognized—or not—by the media and gaming industries. For Newton, it's not just about ratings or cover appearances. It's about respect. And when someone with his résumé and passion for the game isn't even consulted for feedback, it raises eyebrows. Whether or not EA Sports takes notice remains to be seen. But Newton's competitive fire, even off the field, clearly hasn't burned out. "I never got f---ing hurt": While others meal-prepped, Chad Johnson says McDonald's was his not-so-secret NFL health strategy

Chad Johnson swears McDonald's was the key to his NFL durability (Imagn Images) While most elite athletes swear by strict diets and carefully curated meal plans, Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson has always followed a very different path—one that leads straight to the Golden Arches. The former NFL star insists that his surprising health throughout his career was powered not by superfoods or supplements, but by McDonald's. McDonald's over meal prep? Chad Johnson says Big Macs helped him survive the NFL without injuries At the Sports Illustrated Awards, Chad Johnson didn't hesitate to give full credit to his fast-food favorite. 'I want people to realize that playing professional sports … that these high-end places that force you to eat what they consider to be healthy, there's a reason why your bodies are breaking down,' he told SI's Ashley Nicole Moss. The outspoken wide receiver, known for his eccentric lifestyle, firmly believes that indulging in whatever you enjoy builds durability—not weakness. During his 11-season run in the NFL, Johnson was remarkably resilient. He suited up for the full 16-game schedule seven times and never missed more than a few games in any season. Johnson attributes this toughness to his controversial philosophy: 'The body needs to build a callous. How do you do that? By eating whatever you want.' Ochocinco dominated the field because he ate McDonald's #Facts McDonald's wasn't just a guilty pleasure for Johnson—it was a lifestyle. He openly discussed his eating habits on HBO's Hard Knocks back in 2009, saying, 'Don't let them tell you that McDonald's is bad for you. Eat what you wanna eat and you work out the way you're supposed to. It's not gonna bother you.' Even off the field, Johnson lived unconventionally. Despite earning millions, he famously lived in the Bengals' stadium for two years to save money. 'As a rookie coming into the league, I stayed at [Paul Brown Stadium] my first two years because there was no point in spending money and wasting money when everything I need is already there,' he told Entertainment Tonight. He also didn't leave his grandmother's house until his fourth NFL season, preferring comfort over luxury. In an episode of I Am Athlete, Johnson passionately debated former teammate Brandon Marshall, arguing that his health came from his fast-food fueled resilience. 'I never got f---ing hurt, never... you know why? Because I ate McDonald's and I built a f---ing callus in my body.' He claimed that players who follow ultra-healthy diets often find themselves more injury-prone, saying, 'You eat all this healthy stuff and sterilize everything. .. your immune system can't fight shit off.' Love it or hate it, Chad Johnson's message is clear: eat what you love, train hard, and let your body adapt naturally. In an era where wellness trends dominate sports culture, Johnson's bold stance is both controversial and captivating—and it's got everyone talking. 'STOP SHOWING THEM!': Fans accuse NHL of going ‘full NFL' as Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce hijack Stanley Cup spotlight

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's appearance at the Stanley Cup Final ignited a media frenzy (Getty Images) What was supposed to be a crucial moment in the Stanley Cup Final between the Florida Panthers and the Edmonton Oilers quickly turned into a pop culture frenzy when Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce made a high-profile entrance. Helicopter arrival? Check. VIP suite? Check. Cameras fixated on them? Double check. But while the NHL may have hoped to leverage some of the Swift-Kelce stardom, not everyone was impressed — especially the fans. Fans fume as NHL coverage focuses more on Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce than the game itself Sporting a red shirt and dark shades, the Kansas City Chiefs' tight end Travis Kelce joined Taylor Swift in the stands, drawing nearly as much attention as the players on the ice. ESPN's Greg Wyshynski even reported that their arrival caused security to shut down VIP entrances and press box elevators, underscoring just how disruptive the moment was. Social media lit up almost instantly — and not in the way the NHL likely intended. As one frustrated fan posted, '@NHL_On_TNT we get it…she's there. Enough. Signed, every NHL fan.' The sentiment was echoed across platforms. Another viewer vented, 'TAYLOR SWIFT IS NOT WHAT WE WANT TO SEE WHEN THE PANTHERS SCORE.' Their frustrations weren't unfounded. In a game with elimination on the line, many felt the focus should've remained on the ice, not in the luxury suite. 'Hey @NHL_On_TNT we get it. Taylor and Travis are in the building. Now STOP SHOWING THEM! Please?!?' wrote another annoyed fan. And perhaps the most telling of all: 'Let's keep the cameras on the game please!' There was one moment of irony that fans couldn't ignore. Edmonton's Jeff Skinner — who famously posed for a now-viral photo with Swift back in 2013 — was back on the ice. The Oilers' social media team even poked fun by resurfacing the photo, adding a layer of nostalgia that didn't go unnoticed. 'She heard Jeff was in,' joked one fan. Also Read: Travis Kelce stuns fans with Taylor Swift-inspired makeover ahead of possible last NFL season With Kelce and Swift's appearances continuing to dominate headlines, fans are starting to ask a bigger question: is the NHL chasing the same celebrity-driven playbook the NFL used all season long? Whatever the answer, one thing's clear — hockey fans want the attention back on the game.
