'Can't let Bangladeshis enter our territory': BJP ally Pradyot Debbarman threatens exit from Tripura govt, demands action on tiprasa accord
AGARTALA: BJP's ally in Tripura government and the major political force in tribal areas and hills, TIPRA Motha Party founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, expressed his dissatisfaction over the role of central and state governments, and hinted at walking out of the government.
In a Facebook live, Pradyot reiterated his stand and said that he would rather walk away from the ruling coalition than enjoy power if the Tiprasa (tribal) accord, signed last year before the general election, is not implemented. He claimed the talks with the central government were very positive, but after that, things stalled.
'It has been 18 months, we are waiting, and I feel this is high time for a forward movement in this direction,' Pradyot stated.
He announced that his party would soon launch a helpline number as a means of communication for action against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, which, according to him, emerged as the biggest threat to the indigenous people and communities of Tripura.
'I have instructed the leaders of my party to have the helpline circulated among the people on short notice. We can't let Bangladeshis enter our territory as if we allow them today, tomorrow they will use the resources that are meant for our children,' Pradyot said.
He explained that this is basically an attempt on our part to expedite the information gathering on Bangladeshi nationals. No one needs to take the law into their own hands. If someone is found entering Tripura, they can dial our number, and our leaders will communicate the issue with the administration for lawful action.
'We are waiting for the implementation of the Tiprasa accord. We entered into the ruling alliance only because we had been promised that the accord would be implemented.
If I am unable to deliver what I promised to my people, then I have no right to enjoy power. I already had words with the ministers who represent my party and the majority of the MLAs,' he mentioned.
'I understand that after the Pahalgam terror attack, it became the top priority of the government. I still have high hopes that Union Home Minister will keep his promise. But, I genuinely feel something is wrong is going on. In Delhi, the talks are very positive, but after that, things get stuck.' Pradyot added.

Kharge added, 'I had been saying this in Parliament for a long time, and I had never seen a Prime Minister who lied so much, made so many mistakes, trapped people, deceived the youth, and took votes by misleading them. I had been in politics for 65 years. He lied about everything, and not a single promise was implemented.' Furthermore, the Congress President highlighted that PM Narendra Modi did not respond whenever he was questioned on issues such as demonetisation, MSP, or unemployment. 'When we asked him, he did not have any answers--whether it was about demonetisation, unemployment, or MSP. There were so many such issues. He never told the people that he had misled them. 'Shocking and Unacceptable. A violent mob in Bangladesh has desecrated the ancestral home of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, the iconic Kutchery House in Shahjadpur, shattering windows, destroying property, and raising hateful slogans, all under the silent gaze of Mohammad Yunus's government. This is far beyond mere vandalism, it is a premeditated hate crime, an attack on the civilizational spirit and cultural heritage of Bharat,' the post read. Dhami further wrote that these attacks were the marginalisation of Hindu Bengalis in Bangladesh, which was eroding their identity, history and legacy. Earlier in the day, BJP MP Sambit Patra called on the global community to denounce the reported vandalism. Patra stated that Rabindranath Tagore's ancient home in Bangladesh was attacked by some miscreants on Tuesday (June 10). Addressing media persons at the BJP headquarters in the national capital, Patra said, 'Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral house, located in Bangladesh, was attacked and damaged... His Kacharibari, built by his grandfather, has been attacked. We are getting to know that the people of Jamaat-e-Islami and Hefazat-e-Islam carried out this attack. It is also coming to light that this was a pre-planned attack. For five days, it was planned that the house of Rabindranath Tagore, the foundation and pillar of our civilisation and culture of Bengal, would be attacked so that they could send a big message to the world. It was a planned attack.' 'Rabindranath Tagore is no ordinary personality. When his house was attacked, his way of thinking was attacked; we appeal to the world community to come together against this. This is the appeal of the BJP, a party that believes in inclusiveness. We are making a global call to all countries that value morality, creativity, and culture. 'Everyone should come together to condemn what has happened today in Bangladesh,' he added.
