Amorim has supposedly been pushing to bring in a new goalkeeper this summer.
But reports from Argentine journalist Gaston Edul claim the boss has been unable to get chiefs to spend big on a new No1.
Man Utd have been heavily linked with Aston Villa stopper Martinez.
A bid of around £40million is thought to be enough to bring the 32-year-old to Old Trafford.

But so far Man Utd are said to have only seen a loan approach rejected.
Edul said on the 412 YouTube channel: "The deal was very close.
"The coaching staff, especially Amorim, wanted him and Martinez knew that Amorim wanted him.
"Amorim could not convince the board that it was important to spend on a good goalkeeper.

'Well, they told him that Onana was there and said, 'OK, we'll do you a favour and try,' and they offered a loan.
"Aston Villa made it clear under what conditions they would let him go for a sale.'
Emi Martinez in tears as he waves goodbye to fans after Aston Villa's final home game
SunSport exclusively revealed back in June that Amorim was a huge fan of Martinez.
He put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Villa Park last summer but was still expected to depart this summer after tearfully waving to fans in the final match of last season.
Away from Martinez, Man Utd are said to be keen on Gianluigi Donnarumma as he looks to leave PSG after being replaced by Lucas Chevalier.
There has been interest in Onana from Monaco, Inter Milan and Saudi Arabian sides.
But the keeper is said to be desperate to prove the doubters wrong after two difficult seasons between the sticks for Man Utd.

Newcastle star 'likes' post slamming Alexander Isak as Liverpool plot second bid

Alexander Isak has made it clear he wishes to leave Newcastle for Liverpool (Picture: Getty) Newcastle star Joelinton has made his stance clear on Alexander Isak's conduct after 'liking' a social media post criticising the 'destructive path' the forward has taken this summer. Isak informed Newcastle's hierarchy of his desire to seek opportunities elsewhere last month and the situation has turned increasingly bitter in the proceeding days and weeks. Liverpool have emerged as Isak's priority for the new campaign and the 25-year-old – the Magpies' top scorer with 27 goals last term – has been training alone after opting out of Newcastle's pre-season tour of Asia. An impassioned post from Isak on Tuesday evening accused Newcastle of 'breaking promises' and holding him to ransom with just a fortnight remaining of the transfer window. The Toon responded with an explosive statement of their own, refuting Isak's claims while also stressing that they would be prepared to stand in the way of the Swede's potential exit at St James' Park. It remains to be seen if Liverpool will return with a follow-up bid for Isak having seen an initial offer of £110million – plus add-ons – rejected out of hand by their Premier League rivals.. The latest reports suggest the English champions would be willing to break the British transfer record for a second time this summer by lodging a £130m bid for Isak before the September 1 deadline. However, it's understood Newcastle are refusing to waver from their £150m asking price and would only consider selling if they are confident they can bring in a viable replacement. Yoane Wissa remains Newcastle's top target up front, but Brentford turned down their initial proposal for the attacker and are believed to be holding out for a fee in excess of £50m. It's fair to say Isak's conduct has left many Newcastle fans furious, with loud chants of, 'There's only one greedy b******', heard in the away end at Villa Park last weekend. And it seems Isak's behaviour has begun to seriously frustrate and anger members of the Newcastle dressing room – that's if Joelinton's social media antics are anything to go by. 'Idolised and adored. No promises broken by the fans that make this club,' the post read. 'We deserve better than the destructive path you've chosen. 'Newcastle United will never be defeated.' 'Nothing has changed. The door is well and truly open,' the Newcastle head coach said. 'He has to decide what he wants to do. We would like a resolution. We need that clarity. You don't need any kind of distraction. 'I am not in control of that. There is one person who can control that. Let's wait and see. I have made my stance clear. I am concentrating on the team.' Howe is ready to reintegrate Isak back into the squad (Picture: Getty) Asked about the chants directed at Isak from Newcastle fans, Howe replied: 'The supporters acted really well today. 'If afterwards, they want to say something, they are free to do that.' Speaking after Newcastle's goalless draw with Aston Villa, Anthony Gordon admitted the uncertainty surrounding Isak's future had contributed to a 'difficult' start to the season. In a case of Claret vs Blue, the £750-a-bottle winery has opposed the Chelsea player's bid as they want to preserve their own image. 3 Cole Palmer's bid to trademark his Cold Palmer nickname has been challenged by posh French vineyard Château Palmer Credit: Getty 3 The vineyard is in France's Margaux region 3 One bottle of the firm's Cru Classé Margaux from 1970 was listed at £750 The hotshot, 23, wanted to trademark his shivering goal celebration and Cold Palmer nickname. But the application has been unexpectedly opposed by the revered vineyard in France's Margaux region. The footballer hoped to use the moniker for a range of goods such as toiletries and clothes. But the application also asks for legal protection to be allowed to market wine. His papers highlighted: 'Alcoholic beverages; alcoholic fruit beverages; pre-mixed alcoholic beverages; wines; spirits; liqueurs; alcoholic energy drinks; low alcoholic beverages; none of the aforesaid including wines complying with the specifications of the PDO Champagne.' And that alerted bosses at the French label, who have opposed the application. Lawyers at the government's Intellectual Property Office will rule on the potential clash after receiving representations from both sides. Drake hints Cole Palmer is inspiration behind his new album name as he shares brilliant video of Chelsea star The wine firm was founded in 1814 when British Army officer Charles Palmer acquired the estate, then known as Château de Gascq. He renamed it after himself and expanded the vineyards. Royal wine merchant Berry Bros & Rudd says of the firm: 'Château Palmer is a leading wine estate in Margaux. 'Within its appellation, Palmer is certainly the closest rival to its first growth neighbour, Ch. Margaux. 'Although officially ranked a Third Growth, at their best, the wines of Chateau Palmer are among the greatest anywhere in Bordeaux.' Yesterday, one bottle of the firm's Cru Classé Margaux from 1970 was listed at £750. Cole Palmer is not known to be a wine connoisseur, but did pretend to drink a pint of lager last season when one was thrown on the pitch when Chealsea played Copenhagen. He famously asked a waiter in a posh restaurant for ketchup before asking him if he had cooked the meal. His wine preferences are unknown. The star made his senior debut for Manchester City in 2020, and was in the team's squad to win the Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League in 2023 before signing for Chelsea for £40million.

Why Man Utd transfer for Emiliano Martinez collapsed despite Aston Villa agreement

Ruben Amorim's wish to bring World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez to Manchester United was reportedly thwarted by the club's board, as they would only sanction a loan move for the Aston Villa keeper Ruben Amorim didn't do enough to convince Manchester United to sign Emiliano Martinez over the summer, it has been claimed. Despite an encouraging performance in Sunday's defeat to Arsenal, United have something of a keeper crisis. Andre Onana has made a catalogue of errors since his arrival from Ajax two years ago, while Altay Bayindir has failed to convince in his fleeting appearances and was at fault for the Gunners' goal when he flapped at a corner. It's been clear for some time that United need a new stopper and Amorim is a big fan of Martinez, 32, who has played a key role in Aston Villa 's success under Unai Emery. Despite signing a new contract last year, the Argentine looked set to leave Villa after appearing to say an emotional goodbye to fans at the end of last season. At the time, Emery was non-committal over Martinez's future, merely saying 'we will see'. That appeared to leave the door open for a raid from United, who could have landed the World Cup winner for a fee of around £40million. However, United have reportedly seen an approach to sign Martinez on loan rejected by Villa. Amorim's plea to sign the player outright was not supported by the United board, which has instead backed the head coach with attacking signings Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko. Argentine outlet TyC Sports reports that a deal to bring Martinez to Old Trafford was 'very close'. They added that Amorim 'could not convince' the board to splash out on a keeper with Onana still on the books and would only sanction a loan move. Villa, meanwhile, had agreed to let Martinez go, but for only for the right price. While United appear to have made strides following their shambolic 2024/25 campaign, which produced the club's lowest league finish in half a century, their goalkeeping issues could undermine their progress. Following the Arsenal defeat, Amorim jumped to the defence of Bayindir, suggesting he could keep his place for Sunday's game at Fulham. Amorim said of the Gunners' goal: 'You're allowed to do a lot of things in the corner, we need to do the same. When you touch that way, the goalkeeper, he needs to use his hands to catch the ball, not push players, or he chooses to push players and let the ball past. 'It is the rules, it is allowed and we need to do the same thing. No (I'm not saying he should have acted differently), I am saying you choose to push a player or to get the ball. He chose to get the ball, but he's getting pushed, so he cannot defend it." Last season, Bayindir conceded directly from a Son Heung-min corner in a 4-3 Carabao Cup defeat at Tottenham, but Amorim rejected criticism of the Turkey international when asked if he had considered starting third-choice Tom Heaton against a team renowned for their threat from corners. Amorim added: 'He suffered a goal like this, where? Against Tottenham? It was without VAR. With VAR it was a foul. 'Then, in the next game against Arsenal, who saved the penalty? Who saved the game? You don't remember the game but I remember the game and Altay was unbelievable in that game. I considered everything to put in one or another and I chose Altay. I am happy with the three goalkeepers.'
