Anil Ambani's Reliance Defence in pact to supply artillery shells to German firm
Reliance Defence will set up a greenfield plant in Maharashtra to manufacture and supply the ammunitions, it said in a statement.
The partnership with Reliance Infrastructure-promoted Reliance Defence is expected to secure global supply chains and access to important raw materials for Rheinmetall, which manufactures artillery as well as armored vehicles and tanks, the statement said.
'This strategic partnership of Rheinmetall with Reliance Defence led by Anil Ambani's Reliance Group illustrates our strong commitment to partner with India under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Modi," said Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall AG.
The new manufacturing facility in the Watad Industrial Area of Ratnagiri will have an annual capacity to produce up to 200,000 artillery shells, 10,000 tonnes of explosives and 2,000 tonnes of propellants. It will also make a significant contribution to supplying the country's armed forces, the company said.

Dusseldorf-based Rheinmetall AG is a key manufacturer of loitering munitions, large-caliber weapons and ammunition, as well as propulsions systems for artillery applications.
After two successful joint ventures with global majors, Dassault Aviation and Thales Group of France, this is the third significant international partnership for Reliance Defence, the company said.
This comes at a time when Indian defence stocks have skyrocketed amid rising geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan. Mint reported on 20 May that Indian defence stocks such as Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE), Cochin Shipyard Ltd, Mishra Dhatu Nigam Ltd (MIDHANI), Paras Defence and Space Technologies Ltd, Data Patterns (India) Ltd, Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL), and Astra Microwave Products Ltd have seen sharp rallies, outperforming broader indices by a wide margin.
In FY25, India's defence exports surged to a record high of ₹ 23,622 crore, marking a 12% increase over FY24, a defence ministry statement said on 1 April. the contribution of state-run defence firms to exports rose to ₹ 8,389 crore in FY25, up from ₹ 5,874 crore in the year prior.

Congress, Shiv Sena demand action against Israeli Ambassador
A Shiv Sena (UBT) MP joined the Congress in condemning the Israeli Ambassador's sharply-worded response to Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's social media post against the 'genocide' in Palestine, and demanded appropriate action against the diplomat. Ms. Vadra had posted on X on Tuesday (August 12, 2025) that 'the Israeli state is committing genocide.' 'It has murdered over 60,000 people, 18,430 of whom were children. It has starved hundreds to death including many children and is threatening to starve millions. Enabling these crimes by silence and inaction is a crime in itself. It is shameful that the Indian Government stands silent as Israel unleashes this devastation on the people of Palestine,' Ms. Vadra's post said. Responding to the post, Reuven Azar, Israel's Ambassador to India, said, 'What is shameful is your deceit. Israel killed 25,000 Hamas terrorists. The terrible cost in human lives derives from Hamas's heinous tactics of hiding behind civilians, their shooting of people trying to evacuate or receive assistance and their rocket fire. Israel facilitated 2 million tonnes of food into Gaza while Hamas tries to sequestrate them, thereby creating hunger. The Gaza population has grown by 450% in the last 50 years, no genocide there. Congress communications chief Jairam Ramesh said that the party condemns the words used by Mr. Azar in response to the pain and anguish expressed by Ms. Vadra on Israel's continuing genocide in Gaza. 'It is too much to expect the Modi Govt, which has shown extreme moral cowardice when it comes to speaking out on Israel's destruction of Gaza over the past 18-20 months, to take serious exception and objection to the Ambassador's response. We do and find it totally unacceptable,' Mr. Ramesh said. A response from the MEA is awaited.

Thermax partners with Norwegian company HydrogenPro

In a statement, Thermax said it will also provide after-sales services of alkaline electrolyser systems based on HydrogenPro's technology. An alkaline electrolysis system helps produce green hydrogen by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen through the use of direct current power. As part of the technology licensing and agreement for supply of stacks, including any future upgrades and technical support from HydrogenPro, Thermax said, 'It will have exclusive rights in India for the supply, installation, commissioning, and after-sales services of alkaline electrolyser systems based on HydrogenPro's technology, which will be effective immediately and available for deployment in ongoing Indian green hydrogen projects". Thermax will engineer and manufacture key systems and balance-of-plant components of the electrolyser for integration with stacks through a comprehensive technology transfer. Later in a video interaction, Thermax MD and CEO Ashish Bhandari said, 'Our association with HydrogenPro marks an important step in expanding our green hydrogen portfolio". The collaboration enables Thermax to offer market-ready alkaline technology-based solutions for deployment across industries in India. By combining HydrogenPro's proven technology, integrated, localised, state-of-the-art alkaline electrolyser solutions will be delivered with complete lifecycle support, he said.
