Police rule out loan shark involvement in teacher's death
Iskandar Puteri police chief ACP M. Kumarasan said although the 39-year-old victim had previously borrowed RM20,000 from a loan shark, she had fully settled the debt.
He said preliminary police investigations also found that there were no incidents of paint splashing or threats against the victim.
'The deceased had previously lodged a police report, which was investigated under Section 5(2) of the Moneylenders Act 1951. However, after clearing all her debts, there were no further police reports.
'Neighbours also confirmed that no loan sharks had come to throw paint at her house,' he told a press conference at the Iskandar Puteri district police headquarters today.
He said the police had checked with the National Registration Department (JPN) and confirmed that she was an only child and her parents had already passed away.
To date, her remains have yet to be claimed by her next of kin.
'We will discuss this further with the hospital. After two weeks, the body will be released to Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) for them to appoint a private funeral service.
'We were informed that she has an aunt in Singapore, but we still do not have further information about her. Several parents of her students have expressed their wish to help with the funeral,' he said.
Earlier, the media reported that the teacher was found dead at home after neighbours noticed a foul smell and reported the matter to Nusa Bestari police station.
Investigations revealed that the woman, who lived alone, was believed to have died about a month before her body was discovered.
An autopsy conducted by a forensic pathologist at HSA revealed the cause of death as 'unascertained due to advanced decomposition'.

Property firm, directors charged with failure to pay service tax
SEREMBAN: A property management firm and its two board directors have claimed trial in the Sessions Court here to two counts of failing to pay service tax on Thursday (Aug 14). Mat Sham Ahmad, who also represented another director Md Samlan Ahmad and the company Tanjung Tuan Properties Sdn Bhd, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to them before judge Mohamad Kamil Nizam. For the first charge, the company and the duo were charged with failing to pay service tax for the taxable period from May 1 to June 30, 2024 as required under Section 26(4) of the Service Tax Act 2018. This was an offence under Section 26(8), read together with Section 78 (1) of the same legislation, which carries a penalty of up to RM50,000 fine or a jail term not exceeding three years or both upon conviction. For the second charge, they had allegedly failed to do the same for the taxable period from July 1 till Aug 31, 2024. Both offences were allegedly committed on July 31, 2024 at the Customs office in Port Dickson. Customs prosecuting officer Nur Nadia Mohd Rais then asked the court for a mention date for the submission of documents. The accused were unrepresented. Judge Mohamad Kamil fixed Oct 16 for mention.

GOF detains 17 undocumented Myanmar migrants in Kelantan, seize drugs worth RM153,000
KOTA BARU: Seventeen undocumented migrants were detained by the General Operations Force (GOF) in three separate operations here and in Tumpat on Monday and Tuesday. GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said the 17, all from Myanmar, comprised nine women and eight men. He said the operations also led to the seizure of 250g of dried cannabis, 3.2kg of cannabis buds, and a car used to transport the migrants, with the total value estimated at RM153,000. "Two of the operations were conducted in Kota Baru, while the third took place in Pengkalan Kubor, Tumpat. "Eight of the 17 undocumented migrants were nabbed in an area near Pohon Tar, close to Pengkalan Kubor, on Monday. During this operation, GOF personnel also seized the drugs and the car," he said. He added that the remaining nine migrants were arrested in two separate operations at Kampung Kedai Buluh and Kampung Che Latiff on Tuesday. Preliminary investigations revealed that the migrants had entered Kelantan via several illegal jetties along the border. "The 17 people, including a tekong darat (a local term for those who harbour or smuggle undocumented migrants), are being held for further investigation," he added.
