'Fry up breakfast' served at Harry Potter World sparks furious debate

'Fry up breakfast' served at Harry Potter World sparks furious debate A photo of a "sad looking" fry-up served at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, Florida has sparked outrage among British breakfast fans American Friend went to Harry Potter world in the US and got this abomination. (Image: reddit) A thoroughly fry-up dished up at Harry Potter World has sparked considerable outrage amongst Britain's breakfast enthusiasts. Italians witnessing broken spaghetti, elderly Spaniards confronted with poorly cured jamón, French servers dealing with demanding customers - culinary stereotypes and subsequent fury abound. ‌ For Brits, nothing is more guaranteed to infuriate the average person than an American's attempt at assembling a Full Welsh/English/Scottish/Irish breakfast. Combine that with theme park pricing, and you've created the perfect storm for absolute rage. ‌ This precise scenario unfolded during a visit to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, where an inquisitive American chose to order a traditional fry-up. ‌ The Orlando Informer blog reports that such a breakfast commands $19.99 (£14.81). Images of the pitiful meal surfaced alongside concerns that the traditional fry-up faces mounting threats to its future. Have you experienced an exceptional or utterly disappointing breakfast whilst travelling?, reports the Mirror. On the small, black plate sits a pool of questionable-looking beans, which is spreading around and making contact with other breakfast components on several sides. These include clammy-appearing mushrooms and, on the opposite side of the dish, grey-hued scrambled egg. ‌ Crowning the mound of letdown sits not only a parched croissant, but a butter sachet. Pieces of bacon and black pudding seem to lie close by. Predictably, the responses the post generated were far from compassionate. ‌ "This has managed to insult both English and French breakfast culture simultaneously. "What's worse is how this was likely overpriced and tasted quite bland," one person wrote. Another Redditor was so incensed they targeted the culinary skills of most of the globe. "Genuinely, I've never seen good British food outside of the UK and Ireland," they wrote. ‌ "Whether it is a fry up, a roast dinner, a pie, or pasty, or even fish and chips, it's always bastardised and messed up and not very good. "Whenever you see fish and chips, it's also some poor imitation with a few fish goujons and thin-cut chips. No wonder people think we have bad food!". A specific concern for many is the butter packet, which seems to have been deposited randomly into the centre of the plate, to settle on whichever greasy breakfast element it happens to choose. ‌ "I'd be mildly frustrated trying to open the greasy/bean juice-covered butter packet," one person noted. Another asked: "Why is the butter just wazzed in the middle of the plate?" A significant source of controversy centres around the croissant, which has left numerous people baffled about why it's included and whether it complements the traditional British items alongside it on the plate. Article continues below "Personally, it looks great to me. You have a free croissant to pick up and throw at your server and then a full English to take with you when they kick you out," a commenter joked.

Antiques Roadshow guest issues one-word response after his 'little gems' make BBC history

More info WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Antiques Roadshow. An Antiques Roadshow expert was left absolutely delighted after encountering two extraordinary glasses that created BBC history. Glass specialist Andy McConnell was stationed at the Woodhorn Museum in Ashington, meeting with visitors and their treasured possessions when he stumbled upon something truly remarkable. When presented with two diminutive Masonic glasses, the Roadshow authority explained: "These glasses are absolutely the cream and of course, they're firing glasses 'Yes, here! Cheers!' for toasting. "So how on earth do you end up owning these wonderful little gems?" Detailing their history, the guest revealed: "Well I got a bit lucky really. I'd seen them come up at an auction but they were just with a general lot, I think they were valued at £50 to £70. "I pretty much knew what I thought they were. Sadly, they'd been spotted by somebody else so they did go up in value but I managed to win the lot." (Image: BBC) The collector mentioned they ultimately cost him an eye-watering £6,000, prompting McConnell to ask: "So what makes an apparently sensible person spend £6,000 on two glasses the size of a thimble?" He responded: "They're local glasses, I just like collecting things that come from Newcastle. It's beautiful stuff, it's just a passion." The BBC authority then revealed: "What do you recognise them as, was the work of the Beilby family, William Beilby, who were in Newcastle. "1768, it's exactly what it says on the tin and they were Britain's leading enamellers, the greatest enamellers, working exclusively on glass." He continued by highlighting the intricate details on the matching glasses, which featured Masonic compasses alongside "rococo style white floral banding around the top". Describing them as a "well known set", the moment arrived to establish their worth. McConnell explained: "The first one that came up that we know about was bought by the British Museum in about 2009 for £12,000. "Then one sold for £8,000 and another sold for £6,000. (Image: BBC) "But yours, I know today would fetch at auction, you'd get somewhere like £16,000 for the pair." The guest remained composed upon hearing this remarkable sum, simply responding: "Wow." However, unlike the glasses' owner, McConnell appeared absolutely delighted. He declared: "So look, I mean what a pleasure! These are by far the most glasses that I've ever had in 16 years on the Roadshow. "I'm so made up with these. So cheers to you and William Beilby!". The guest finally smiled at McConnell's enthusiasm, with the audience applauding in appreciation. During a separate interview, McConnell explained: "It's about rarity. We are linking these to one person, William Beilby, this is the best at its peak." Antiques Roadshow can be viewed on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Strictly Come Dancing's Alex Kingston's devastating four words after Ralph Fiennes left her

Strictly Come Dancing's Alex Kingston's devastating four words after Ralph Fiennes left her Before Alex Kingston found happiness with her current husband, the Doctor Who actress endured a painful split from an Oscar nominee after his affair with an older woman Ralph Fiennes and Alex Kingston met in the 80s (Image: NY Daily News via Getty Images) Strictly Come Dancing's newest addition, Alex Kingston, has weathered a rocky romantic past before finding stability with her present husband. ‌ The 62-year-old former Doctor Who star is preparing to captivate viewers on the BBC's cherished dancing competition. ‌ Alex endeared herself to Doctor Who enthusiasts through her role as River Song, appearing alongside David Tennant, Matt Smith, and Peter Capaldi during their respective runs on the legendary science fiction programme. ‌ Her distinguished television portfolio encompasses parts in the US medical series ER, costume dramas including The Fortunes and Misfortunes of Moll Flanders, Arrow, and A Discovery of Witches. The performer has always been candid about her enthusiasm for joining Strictly. Back in 2019, she admitted: "Sarah Hadland and I talked about how much we'd like to do Strictly Come Dancing. Then I discovered she's a trained ballet dancer. 'Hang on a minute! That's not fair!' So, I can't do it on a season when she is on it!", reports the Express. Alex faced heartbreak when her relationship with Ralph Fiennes came to an end (Image: Ron Galella Collection via Getty Images) Article continues below Away from the cameras, Alex has endured her share of personal upheaval. She encountered Oscar-nominated performer Ralph Fiennes whilst studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1983. The pair wed a decade later, though their union collapsed catastrophically when Ralph became involved with a woman 18 years his senior. Looking back on their separation, Alex previously said: "We were like strangers - very fragile," according to the Mirror. ‌ "His mother was dying and somehow we thought the wedding was going to heal everything. But that was crazy, of course." In 1995, Ralph Fiennes took to the stage in Hamlet at Hackney Empire, starring opposite Francesca Annis—who portrayed Gertrude, his character's mother. Despite their age difference, Ralph, who was 32 at the time, left his partner Alex to pursue a romance with 50-year-old Francesca Annis. It was reported Francesca, a mother of three with photographer Patrick Wiseman, left him for the actor. ‌ Alex opened up about her emotional distress after their separation in an interview with the Daily Mail, sharing: "I was feeling worthless, that I would never find anyone else as good as my husband, which is ridiculous, but I had so little self-esteem." She also reflected on the experience, saying: "Divorce is awful but it is also something I don't regret happening to me because it has shaped who I am now." Alex is gearing up for Strictly 2025 (Image:for Pragnell) ‌ Ralph and Francesca maintained a relationship for a decade from 1997 to 2006, brushing aside any concerns about their age gap. Francesca once addressed the topic, saying: "Of course I don't spend days agonising over the age difference. How can I? There is nothing I can do about it,". She added: "Ralph and I have been together ten years now so, whatever happens, we have had a very good, different relationship and an interesting time." ‌ However, their relationship came under strain following allegations by Romanian singer Cornelia Crisan, who claimed she had a two-year affair with Ralph. The day after the allegations surfaced, Ralph and Francesca announced their split, with a statement saying: "Miss Annis confirms today that she and Ralph Fiennes are to separate." Ralph's unfaithfulness had a profound effect on Alex, who admitted to considering taking her own life. ‌ She subsequently married German author Florian Haertel and the couple welcomed their daughter Salome in 2001. Their union came to an end in 2009, with the divorce being finalised in 2013. Thankfully, Alex has since found joy again, now wedded to TV presenter Jonathan Stamp. The couple exchanged vows in Italy in 2015. Article continues below Strictly Come Dancing is set to return to BBC later this year.
