Lindsay Lohan hopes Freakier Friday helps people forget
The 39-year-old actress has reunited with Jamie Lee Curtis for the new fantasy-comedy film, which is a sequel to 2003's Freaky Friday, and Lohan hopes the movie will help to lift spirits.
Lohan - who starred alongside Jamie in the original film - told the BBC of her hopes for the sequel.
"Fans love the movie and there's such a strong loyalty. It made people so happy and I like to make movies that make people feel joy," she said.
"There's so much going on in the world now that it's nice to make something that allows people to forget about what's going on."
Curtis recently admitted she developed a close bond with Lohan after they starred together in Freaky Friday more than two decades ago.
"I felt tremendous maternal care for Lindsay after the first movie and continued to feel that," she told the Guardian newspaper.
"She and I have remained friends and now we're sort of colleagues. I feel less maternal towards her because she's a mommy now herself and doesn't need my maternal care, and has, obviously, a mom – Dina's a terrific grandma."
Curtis insists that Lohan doesn't need any life advice from her.
"I'm bossy, very bossy, but I try to mind my own business. She doesn't need my advice. She's a fully functioning, smart woman, creative person. Privately, she's asked me questions, but nothing that's more than an older friend you might ask," she said.
Lohan has been through lots of high-profile ups and downs in her life, but she recently claimed that she's now "wiser" and more "settled" than ever before.
"I'm at ease in my life because I've lived, I feel like, such a long life at such a young age. I feel wiser now and very settled. I've become such a positive person," she told People.

Westfield Bondi Junction rolled out the purple carpet for the Australian premiere of the highly anticipated Freaky Friday sequel, Freakier Friday. Stars of the film, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, attended the glitzy affair at Event Cinemas on Tuesday night to promote the new film, which comes 22 years after the original. However, some fans who lined up for hours were left disappointed after the Hollywood duo skipped the fan area altogether, walking straight past it and straight onto the stage, which was closed off to select guests lucky enough to secure tickets to the screening. After judging a fashion show on stage modelled by influencers such as Tammy Hembrow, Curtis and Lee made their way back down the red carpet and up the escalators, with their diehard fans barely catching a glimpse. 'Waited hours only for them not to come say hi,' one fan wrote on TikTok as they shared a video of Curtis and Lohan seemingly snubbing the fans lined up against the barricades. 'I just wanted to see Lindsay. Westfield staff were like let's give the fans who waited 6-10hrs a free $10 food voucher for today only but also all the stores are closed bc it's 7:30pm.' There is footage on social media of other fans crying after the supposed snub, while others also vented their frustrations from outside the cinema. 'I've been going to red carpet premieres for over 20 years now, mostly in Sydney Australia, and these people like me have been here since 10am in the morning – people have come before me as well,' one fan shared in a TikTok video. 'This is officially the fan section and we were all expected to, hopefully, get a photo with them, hopefully get an autograph but they didn't come out.' 'For whatever reason, they didn't bring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis out to us. So we've been here for all these hours. For me personally from 10am, and I've got nothing.' However, as the event continued upstairs, Curtis and Lohan were more than gracious as they did numerous red carpet interviews before venturing into two packed cinemas to greet the audience seated inside, thanking them for their support. This movie is a labour of love for the both of us, and we're just so thrilled that we're ending our press tour here because Australia is a beautiful place,' Lohan told the audience. 'It's the first time my son's here and I'm just so happy to be back here. It's my second time back here with Jamie now.' 'I've been here many times,' Curtis chimed in. 'As you know, you're a bit of a destination resort for us, and it tells me how important this country is to the success of movies. Disney – thank you – made a big, big effort and a big point to say, 'We need to go to Australia.'' 'You know, it's kind of a long flight, but we wanted to come and support the movie here because we understand how important you guys are to it and to its success,' she concluded. Also at the event was US supermodel Tyra Banks, who wanted to support her longtime friend Lohan. The duo starred in the comedy Life-size back in 2000 and have remained each other's biggest cheerleaders ever since.
