Newcastle: Pride artists 'can be totally free in a safe space'
"I know a lot of these LGBTQI+ performers are very out there. They are very flamboyant, they do these massive productions and they've got these great ideas," he said."So it's great to provide these stages where they [the performers] can be totally free and show who they want to be as an artist, without limitations and in front of a really safe space with a really engaged crowd."
Ogilvie's first Pride performance was in Cumbria in 2017, where he performed in front of a crowd of thousands.He said it was rare for a musician to be given the chance to perform to such a large audience so early on in their career, and it had allowed him to hone who he was as an artist."To be given that opportunity was fabulous," he said.
The Future is Queer is set to perform again at this year's Newcastle Pride, when the festival takes over the city on 19 and 20 July.
This year's festival is being headlined by pop star Pixie Lott, stylist-turned-DJ Gok Wan and Drag Race UK finalist Michael Marouli.It will also feature drag group Angels Of The North, as well as tribute acts and dance and cabaret performances.But the festival's organiser, Northern Pride, said it remained committed to ensuring local creatives played a part in the event, and has asked homegrown acts to apply for a slot.The organisation is urging anyone who wants to sing, dance, perform comedy or run a workshop to get in touch.Northern Pride's director, Ste Dunn, said he was overwhelmed by the continued support the Newcastle festival has received in recent years."We are delighted to be bringing an even bigger and better Newcastle Pride to the city centre this year to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community," he said.

RuPaul's Drag Race's La Voix is seventh contestant to join Strictly 2025 line-up
Strictly Come Dancing has announced RuPaul's Drag Race UK star La Voix as the seventh star to join the BBC One show line-up. They stopped by BBC Radio 2 this morning to share the news. A YouTube star, an EastEnders actress and a Love Island winner were among the first batch of contestants announced for Strictly Come Dancing 2025. The popular BBC dancing show, hosted by Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly, will return to TV screens in September with a new host of famous faces competing each week to win the glitterball trophy. Podcast host and YouTube star George Clarke was announced as the sixth celebrity contestant on Tuesday during BBC Radio 1's Going Home drivetime show. George, also known as George Clarkey, said: "Never thought I'd say this … but I'm doing Strictly! Honestly, I've got no idea what I'm doing but I'm excited to get stuck in … and potentially fall over a fair bit." It came after EastEnders actress Balvinder Sopal was revealed as a contestant during a segment filmed live from Albert Square on ITV show Good Morning Britain ( GMB). She said that "being on Strictly is a dream that I held on to, with no proof that it would ever happen". The other stars confirmed to be competing are Love Island winner Dani Dyer, Gladiators star Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, Doctor Who actress Alex Kingston and former footballer Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. Speaking on The One Show after her reveal, Dani, who is the daughter of actor Danny Dyer, said: "It's such a fun magical show – to be asked to do it is such an honour. A Drag Race star has dropped a huge hint that they've signed up for Strictly Come Dancing 2025 but it has caused divide amongst fans as they speculate whether it is actually true A Drag Race star has dropped a huge hint that they've signed up for Strictly Come Dancing 2025 - and they already have a huge connection to the show. Tayce Szura-Radix, better known mononymously as Tayce, found fame when she placed runner-up in the second series of RuPaul's Drag Race UK behind Lawrence Chaney. Following this, a string of modelling gigs followed and she started hosting various slots on BBC Radio 1. She also made an appearance on Celebrity Gogglebox, but in 2024, she emerged victorious as the winner of the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special. At the time, she was paired with professional dancer Kai Widdrington and has now sparked speculation that she has signed up for the full series. In a cryptic post on Instagram, she wrote: "Guess I was too much" and added a disco ball to her five-word statement.
