'On July 4, Dr Aniljit Kamboj was attacked by people who came to his clinic posing as patients. Dr Kamboj was admitted to the hospital after being shot...Barresoth, the shooters, and the person who provided them logistical support have been identified...The police team tried to stop the car in which the shooters were travelling, and they tried to escape by firing at the police. The police team has arrested three people involved in the incident...', Moga SSP Ajay Gandhi said on Sunday.
On Friday, Amritsar police had also busted an arms-narco module run by Pakistani and Malaysian handlers in the state. Amritsar Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said on Friday, '... We have busted an arms-narco module run by Pakistani and Malaysian handlers. Three people have been arrested. Five sophisticated weapons and one kg of heroin have been recovered from them, sent through the international border via drone... Two of the three arrested accused returned from Malaysia with the task. They came to Amritsar for the same purpose... They were supposed to deliver their consignment but were arrested before it...'.
On June 28, National General Secretary of the BJP, Tarun Chugh, had said: '... AAP and Congress have been in power in Punjab for the last 8.5 years... The state has been thrown into the fire of crime with reckless abandon... AAP's governance is primarily for headlines, not for public interest. On Saturday, Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar had said that Punjab needs strong leadership. He said, 'Punjab is at the mercy of the AAP, which was rejected by Delhi. Arvind Kejriwal is the de facto CM of Punjab, and Bhagwant Mann does not even have the powers of a clerk... The biggest threats facing the state are- police stations are being captured, extortions are taking place in broad daylight, and people are being murdered on roads...'. (ANI)

Notorious gang leader killed in shootout
Reign of terror: Police collecting evidence at the scene of the shootout along Jalan Bukit Tunku, Kuala Lumpur. — Bernama KUALA LUMPUR: A notorious local gang leader with a long criminal record was killed in a dramatic shootout with the police on Jalan Bukit Tunku here. The 4.10am operation yesterday was part of a special initiative codenamed 'Ops Api KL', led by the Bukit Aman Crime Investigation Department (CID) in collaboration with the Kuala Lumpur Police. Acting Bukit Aman CID director Deputy Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said the 36-year-old Malaysian man was believed to be the mastermind behind a criminal syndicate involved in house break-ins, armed robbery and drug distribution across Kuala Lumpur, Perak and Selangor since last year, resulting in more than RM1mil in losses. 'The suspect, who was shot dead at the scene, is believed to be the leader of a gang that has been actively targeting homes and business premises with safes, gold and cash,' he told reporters. Also at the scene were Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari and other CID officers. DCP Fadil said the suspect opened fire on police when they attempted to intercept him while he was allegedly surveying the area for potential robbery targets. 'A shootout ensued and the suspect fatally shot on-site. 'Several bullet holes were found on a police vehicle. A revolver was recovered from the suspect.' DCP Fadil said the suspect had 44 offences on his criminal record. Checks on the luxury vehicle driven by the suspect revealed that it was using a fake registration plate and is believed to have been smuggled in from a neighbouring country, he said. 'Investigations suggest that gang members sometimes pose as police officers and are also linked to a drug distribution syndicate. 'Efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining individuals involved,' he said.

S'pore court reserves judgment on Pannir's post-appeal application
Malaysian death row inmate Pannir Selvam Pranthaman gained a reprieve when the Singapore Court of Appeal reserved its judgment, following the second hearing on his post-appeal application held on Wednesday. The Singapore Ministry of Home Affairs' policy on the scheduling of executions came under scrutiny during the proceedings, as Pannir's counsel and the Attorney-General's Chambers addressed the content of affidavits they submitted after the first hearing on May 7.
