Here are the players UNC men's basketball has picked up in the transfer portal
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — Over a week and a half into the current transfer portal window, the North Carolina Tar Heels are starting to make some moves.
Head coach Hubert Davis said last week that his priority is to get bigger, as lack of size proved to be an issue for UNC this past season. Davis also said he's also looking for consistency — which eluded the Tar Heels during a roller coast 2024-25 campaign that saw them just barely getting into the NCAA Tournament — and discipline.

UNC has already lost junior big man and sophomore point guard Elliot Cadeau to the transfer portal, with the latter already announcing a commitment to Michigan.
A handful of players on the Tar Heels' target list have already or are expected to make official visits to campus over the coming days. The transfer portal closes on April 24.
Here's the running list of transfers who have committed to playing for UNC next season, along with their position, date of commitment and most recent program.
UNC transfer commitments
Jonathan Powell, guard — April 1 (West Virginia)
The 6'6″ wing, who spent his freshman year with the Mountaineers, reportedly committed to the Tar Heels Tuesday without having made a visit to Chapel Hill. This past season, Powell played in 32 games — 23 of which he started — during which he averaged 8.3 points and 3.1 rebounds. He was second in the Big 12 in three pointers made by a freshman with 62, and he finished with the conference's fourth-lowest turnover rate. Powell has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Henri Veesaar, center — April 4 (Arizona)
On Friday, UNC got their biggest target, according to Inside Carolina. At 7'0″, the sophomore from Estonia fills the Tar Heels need for size. Veesaar played in 37 games for the Wildcats, whose season just ended last week against Duke in the Sweet 16. Despite only starting five of those games, the big man ended the season as Arizona's fourth leading scorer, averaging 9.4 points to go along with 5 rebounds and a team-leading 1.1 blocks per contest. Veesaar has two years of eligibility left.

Mavericks Closing In on Cooper Flagg for No 1 Draft Pick

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. With the 2024-25 NBA season coming to a close, soon all eyes will be on the offseason. This offseason is expected to be one for the books, and the first big event on the calendar will be the 2025 NBA Draft. The draft, which will take place in late June, is one worth watching, and it will feature one of the best prospects of the last decade, Duke superstar phenom Cooper Flagg. Flagg is on track to be the top selection in this year's draft, and all indications suggest the Mavericks will use their No. 1 pick on him later this month. Sources tell ESPN that the Mavericks will host Flagg for a workout in mid-June. Photo byESPN's Shams Charania and Jonathan Givony shared how the Mavericks will work out Flagg, and they have no intention of working out any other prospects. "The Mavericks have no plans to work out any other prospects for the No. 1 pick and have made clear publicly and privately that they plan on selecting Flagg when Adam Silver puts them on the clock to open the 2025 NBA Draft." Dallas made it clear from the jump that they had no plans to move the No. 1 pick after landing it in the draft lottery. That stance hasn't changed — and the fact that they're reportedly not entertaining any other prospect speaks volumes about how highly they view Flagg. Flagg is fresh off a legendary freshman campaign at Duke — one that's already being talked about as one of the greatest ever by a college player. His accolades tell the story: AP Player of the Year, consensus First-Team All-American, Lute Olson Award winner, Julius Erving Award winner, Wayman Tisdale Award winner, ACC Player of the Year, First-Team All-ACC, ACC Rookie of the Year, ACC All-Defensive Team, and ACC All-Freshman Team. The Mavericks have had a roller coaster of a season. They start the season a bit shaky, and then they make what most call a boneheaded move by trading their superstar, Luka Doncic, to the Lakers. After that, they endure a stretch of injuries unlike any other, and they end the season with the No. 1 pick. Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison has endured a ton of criticism, and he deserves it; however, that could all change in the coming months with how he builds this team for the upcoming 2025-26 season. Ex-Louisville star Russ Smith arrested for suspicion of DUI, reckless driving

Louisville Metro Police arrested a former Louisville basketball star early Sunday morning for driving under the influence of alcohol. Russ Smith, a member of the 2013 Louisville basketball team who won the NCAA Tournament that was later vacated, was stopped after police spotted him making a U-turn across multiple lanes and noticed his license plate tag had expired, the Courier Journal reported after viewing the arrest citation. Police detected a 'strong odor of alcoholic beverages' on Smith's breath when they first talked to him, and he failed a field sobriety test after he told officers that he drank 'two bourbon pours neat' before getting behind the wheel, according to the arrest citation. 3 Russ Smith was arrested early Sunday morning. Smith had a 0.073 blood alcohol content, but in the state of Kentucky, drivers can still be prosecuted if they have a BAC of above 0.04 but below 0.08 as long as there is other evidence to support the case. 'That fact may be considered, together with other competent evidence, in determining the guilt or innocence of the defendant,' according to the statute in the state. A police spokesperson told WDRB that 'we will allow the arrest slip to speak for itself,' when asked about Smith's BAC. Smith faces charges of driving under the influence, reckless driving and having unregistered license plates. 3 Russ Smith drives to the basket during Louisville's game in March 2014. WDRB reported that Smith is slated to play in The Basketball Tournament this summer, a winner-take-all tournament with a $1 million prize. Smith played four years at Louisville, and he averaged 14.3 points per game. He had brief NBA stints with the Pelicans and Grizzlies, as well as some time in the G-League and overseas. Report: Projected No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg will only work out with Mavericks

Report: Projected No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg will only work out with Mavericks Player of the Year Cooper Flagg will reportedly only work out with the Dallas Mavericks before the 2025 NBA draft, according to Shams Charania and Jonathan Givony of ESPN. Flagg is set to visit the Mavericks in Dallas on June 17 for a private workout and to meet with team personnel. The organization has indicated publicly and privately that it intends to select Flagg and has no plans to target any other prospect with the No. 1 pick on June 25. The Mavericks have the first pick in the draft for only the second time in franchise history. After previously trading franchise cornerstone Luka Dončić, the Mavericks are expected to find their next once-in-a-generation player in Flagg. Flagg led Duke to the Final Four, averaging 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks on 38.5% shooting from 3-point range. He became the 22nd player in program history to be named a consensus first-team All-American. Jason Kidd said last month that he believes the Mavericks are a great situation for Flagg, with their mixture of established veterans and up-and-coming players. He believes Flagg will be able to step in and make an immediate contribution. Flagg has drawn comparisons to former Duke legend and Hall of Famer Grant Hill because of his size, athleticism and ability to affect games in various ways. Former coach Mike Krzyzewski even called him the best freshman to ever play with the Blue Devils.
