Nissan has been selling a Patrol Nismo in the Middle East for a decade, but only now is the United States getting an equivalent: the
Armada Nismo
. It answers a question few have asked, as it's hard to imagine people lining up to place deposits for a high-performance version of Nissan's largest SUV. Nevertheless, we appreciate the added variety, even if Americans will have to settle for less power.
The hot Nismo boasts 460 horsepower, or 35 more than the regular Armada, but the twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 is even more potent in the Middle East. Exclusive to the United Arab Emirates and other countries where the Armada is sold as the Patrol, the 'VR35DDTT' engine produces 495 hp, a solid 35-hp bump attributed to 'region-specific tuning.'

says the engine was further massaged 'as a direct result of extensive customer insights and feedback.' Marketing fluff aside, we're pretty confident U.S. buyers would've liked the 495-hp version as well. More lenient emissions regulations in the Middle East likely enabled engineers to unlock the extra power. We've asked Nissan for clarification and will update the article once we receive a response. In the meantime, torque remains unchanged at 516 pound-feet (700 Newton-meters) for both the Patrol and Armada variants.
Beyond the stronger engine, the Patrol Nismo also features a fog lamp as a nod to the
previous-generation model
. Nissan says Formula E inspired the design, but the U.S.-spec Armada Nismo opts for a cleaner rear diffuser instead. Aside from badging, since the SUV goes by different names depending on the market, everything else is essentially the same.
The Armada isn't the only SUV to get the Nismo treatment. There was a Juke Nismo several years ago, and now Nissan offers the
Ariya Nismo
as the first model without a combustion engine. We're hopeful the GT-R will return someday with a Nismo version, but Godzilla is unlikely to make a comeback anytime soon. When it does, it too might arrive as an EV, especially considering the wild
Hyper Force concept
.
For now, the only traditional model left is the
Z Nismo
, though the high price and absence of a manual gearbox are likely turning off enthusiasts.

The Leaf SV+ will retail for $34,230 and the Leaf Platinum+ will cost $38,990, but no price has been shared yet for the entry-level Leaf S model. Another compelling aspect of these 2026 Leaf models is the maximum driving range of up to 303 per charge, depending on the model. This performance is a marked improvement over the range for most of its previous iterations . All the models will have a quick-charge time of 35 minutes and will be compatible with NACS charging ports . The higher-end trims will have additional perks such as bigger dual display screens, more audio speakers, and wireless phone charging for the interior.

Nissan stunned us all when it released the specs for its refreshed Leaf: new crossover body; dual charging ports; and over 300 miles of range. Today, the Japanese released the starting price for the Leaf, and lo and behold, it's still a hell of a bargain. When it reaches dealerships this fall, the 2026 Leaf S Plus will start at $29,990 — or $31,485 when you factor in the $1,495 destination charge. Still, Nissan describes as 'the lowest starting MSRP for any new EV currently on sale in the US.' And the company isn't relying on any gimmickry like federal incentives (because there won't be any, thanks to President Trump) or fuel savings. Instead, the price is a reflection of Nissan's commitment to 'making EV mobility accessible to all.' Nissan also said that the SV Plus trim, with a bigger battery and 18-inch alloy wheels, will start at $35,725 including the destination charge. That's especially low when you consider the average start price for a new EV according to Kelley's Blue Book is $55,689, which is down 4.2 percent from a year ago. For comparison, gas-powered cars averaged about $48,800, which is up 1.5 percent year over year. Tesla, still the top player in the EV space, saw its average transaction price dip to about $52,900, down more than 9 percent from last year. With the elimination of federal incentives, automakers are redoubling their efforts to produce truly affordable EVs. As competition from China heats up, Hyundai and Kia are both promising more low-cost models. Tesla says it will release a cheaper Model Y later this year. Volkswagen has a €20,000 electric hatchback that it has yet to commit to bringing to the US. And even Ford just released its grand plan to upend its whole manufacturing process to produce cheaper EVs, starting with a $30,000 truck in 2027. My taste in cars is way different now from when I first started driving. I've gone through phases: a truck phase, a Volkswagen phase, and back to the first one in recent years. I still love trucks, to be clear, but nowadays, I just want something that works. I thought that's what I was getting with my second-gen Prius when I bought it last year, but that silly thing hasn't moved for months thanks to various hybrid battery gremlins. I'm looking to replace it with something simpler, and in my search, I stumbled across a 2003 Honda Element that I'm pretty sure I'll be driving home tonight. Suffice to say, I'm stoked about it. My sister drove an Element back in high school, and I remember it being extremely roomy. There are only four seats, which isn't ideal since we're a family of five, but we can all fit in my wife's Expedition. Plus, the Element's rear seats not only fold flat, but they fold up onto the sides?! How did I not know that? Via Facebook Marketplace The seller has supposedly owned this car for the past 16 years, which seems like a good sign. Mileage is pretty high at 268,000 or so, but I'm less concerned by that; I'd be more worried if the car had sat for most of its life. And its maintenance record seems clean, as they mention new struts, ball joints, axle seals, and headlights in the last year. One thing I plan to ask more about is the K24's cylinder head replacement they had done 'recently' after learning it needed a new head gasket. Was that a preventative or a reactive job? Who did the work? Is it a sign of something more? It also looks super clean in the photos. I don't see a dent or a scuff in the listing's 18 photos, and amazingly, the interior looks just as well-kept. Take a peek at the skylight above the backseats. Via Facebook Marketplace It has a few aftermarket upgrades, but nothing too crazy. The stock head unit has been replaced with a larger one that displays a backup camera feed. They added a remote start system, and it comes with two keys. All simple stuff. I really want this one to be a winner because every vehicle I buy breaks. I've written about this before, back when I had a small fleet of dump trucks that caused me fits every time I started them up. Now, I have a 1996 Ford F-350 and the aforementioned Prius that don't like to move. It's getting old, and having dealt with diesel and hybrid headaches for the past couple of years, it's time to buy something clean and simple. That's what I'm hoping to get with the Element, which will hopefully be a better blend of reliability and niftiness. So what if you can get custom cabinetry to go in the back for camping? And who cares that you can buy a swivel mount so the front seats swing around to create a cool conversation space? OK, those are both super cool, but I'm not touching the engine, suspension, or drivetrain unless strictly for maintenance. I've had enough of that in my life. I'll keep you guys posted.
