'Focus on batting, don't raise your hand. I don't want to lose...': MS Dhoni's sharp retort to Ambati Rayudu
It was a simple yet firm message: focus on your batting and control your anger. Chennai Super Kings, the team that Rayudu represented then (Dhoni still does) in the IPL, could ill afford losing more Fair Play points for player behaviour.
Rayudu, who scored 1932 runs for CSK in 90 matches between 2018 and 2023, said Dhoni would often pull him up for his bad temper and say that he was like a cat on a hot tin roof. 'Sometimes, Mahi bhai would tell me — just like a tin roof heats up quickly, I also tend to lose my cool quickly," Rayudu said on 'Cheeky Singles.'
The former India batter said Dhoni would get angry and advise him to keep his hands down if he would complain about a non-wide call. We would point out to the umpire that a delivery was wide or a no-ball, and he would always tell me, 'Just focus on batting, don't raise your hand. I don't want to lose Fair Play points because of you'," Rayudu added.
Rayudu, however, was quick to poke fun at the legendary captain by adding that it was the same year when CSK were docked points because of Dhoni's entry into the ground while demanding a no-ball. "Interestingly, that same year, he himself walked onto the field — not because of me, but because we were losing.'
The incident happened during a CSK vs RR group stage match in Jaipur in IPL 2019. With just 8 runs required from the final three deliveries, Ben Stokes bowled a delivery that was first declared a no-ball. The umpire then reversed the call, triggering MS Dhoni to march onto the field in protest and challenge the decision. Dhoni was fined 50% of his match fees because of the incident. CSK, the eventual runner-up of the tournament after losing the final to the champions Mumbai Indians by 1 run, finished sixth in the Fair Play table.

Gautam told me ‘you are not aware of your talent'
New Delhi: A coach who believed in him more than himself, a captain who supported when the chips were down and conditions that felt more like home than away -- Indian pacer Akash deep says his maiden but impactful tour of England was rather smooth. A 10-wicket match-haul in one game and a very important half-century in another, both in winning causes, summed up Akash Deep's performance that has made him an overnight star but he can't forget what head coach Gautam Gambhir told him after his 66 at the Oval. 'Tumko khud pata nahi tum kya kar sakte ho (You aren't aware of your capabilities). 'See, I was tell-ing you, you can do it. You have to play with this dedication always',' the 29-year-old recollected in an interview to PTI. 'Gautam bhai is a very passionate coach. He always motivates us. He believes in me more than I be-lieve in myself, both in my batting and bowling,' he gushed after having earned the vote of confi-dence from his coach. Having made his Test debut under Rohit Sharma and now playing under Shubman Gill, the adjust-ment has been easy for the Bengal speedster, who terms the new skipper as someone who is calm yet brimming with on-field ideas. 'He is a very good captain. It's not like he is a new captain. He has already been an IPL captain for a couple of years, which is a big platform. That experience does count,' he said. 'With Shubman as captain, I didn't feel like I was playing for the first time. He's very supportive. When a captain supports you and understands things well, especially when you are down, it makes a big difference. 'I have played Duleep Trophy under his captaincy last year so it wasn't the first time.

Sanju Samson's trade to Chennai Super Kings is not going to work: R Ashwin
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) spinner Ravichandran Ashwin feels the trade deal between CSK and Rajasthan Royals (RR) for Sanju Samson is not going to work. Ahead of the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), several reports have emerged which claim that Samson isn't willing to stay in RR and wants to leave the have expressed their interest in acquiring Samson's services. However, according to Ashwin the trade deal might not come to fruition. Samson was retained for Rs 18 crore ahead of the mega auction but missed several games of the season due to injury. Sharing his thoughts on the possible trade of Samson between CSK and RR, Ashwin has said that the deal might not happen as RR are unlikely to get valuable players in the CSK-RR trade won't work is because if Sanju is traded to CSK, and RR then try to trade with other teams, they're unlikely to get valuable players in return. For example, if RR want a spinner like Ravi Bishnoi and approach LSG, the problem is that if LSG acquire Sanju and give away Bishnoi, they also have to manage the remaining purse required to retain Sanju — which becomes LSG's responsibility. CSK generally don't believe in trading. They aren't going to trade players like Ravindra Jadeja or Shivam Dube. So, in all likelihood, Sanju coming to CSK is bleak, for the reasons I've explained. RR don't have much to gain from this kind of trade,' said Ashwin on his Youtube Channel. Samson started his IPL career at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2012 but didn't get to play a single match. He was bought by Rajasthan Royals in the auction next year and went on to make his IPL debut. After playing for RR till 2015, he was bought by Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) for 2016 and 2017 seasons. However, he again returned to Rajasthan in 2018 and even led them to their second final ever in 2022, but ended up on the losing Samson has been an integral part of RR for a number of seasons. It remains to be seen if he decides to stay with the team for 2026 or makes a shift to another franchise.- EndsMust Watch
