"The meeting was a very interesting one," Trump said in the post. "His success and rise is an amazing story." Trump added that members of his cabinet are going to spend time with Tan and bring the president "suggestions" next week. "Mr. Tan had the honor of meeting with President Trump for a candid and constructive discussion on Intel's commitment to strengthening US technology and manufacturing leadership," the company said in a posted statement. Intel added that it looks "forward to working closely with him and his Administration as we restore this great American company." Trump demanded last week that the recently-hired boss of Intel resign "immediately," after a Republican senator raised national security concerns over his links to firms in China. "The CEO of INTEL is highly CONFLICTED and must resign, immediately. There is no other solution to this problem," Trump posted on Truth Social last Thursday. Tan released a statement at the time saying that the company was engaged with the Trump administration to address the concerns raised and ensure officials "have the facts." Intel is one of Silicon Valley's most iconic companies but its fortunes have been dwarfed by Asian powerhouses TSMC and Samsung, which dominate the made-to-order semiconductor business. In a statement, Tan said there has been "a lot of misinformation circulating" about his past roles at Walden International and Cadence Design Systems. "I have always operated within the highest legal and ethical standards," Tan said. The Malaysia-born tech industry veteran took the helm at struggling Intel in March, announcing layoffs as White House tariffs and export restrictions muddied the market. Takiyuddin and Rayer trade barbs during 13MP debate
KUALA LUMPUR: Tempers flared in the Dewan Rakyat today as Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (PN-Kota Baru) and R.S.N. Rayer (PH-Jelutong) exchanged heated words during the 13th Malaysia Plan debate. Takiyuddin had sought clarification from the government on strengthening the socio-economic status of Chinese new villages. He questioned the justification for the master plan and asked why there was none for the Indian community, particularly estate workers without homes. He was interjected by Rayer, who claimed Takiyuddin's statement was wrong and insisted there were allocations to build houses for the Indian community. Rayer had sought to invoke standing orders against Takiyuddin for misleading the Lower House. Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah, who was standing in to chair the proceedings, reminded Rayer to respect the standing orders and to allow Takiyuddin to finish before raising a point of order. Takiyuddin then remarked that Rayer "would be silent in court". This prompted Rayer to challenge him to meet in court, saying: "If you're brave, meet me in court. I will teach you, Kota Baru." Rayer then accused Takiyuddin of ignoring allocations in the 13MP text read by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim that, after the Chinese new village provision, funds would be provided to repair dilapidated homes for the Indian community. "You shut up, you misled the Lower House. Don't use the Lower House to mislead the public. You are a lawyer — have some dignity." Takiyuddin denied the accusation, repeatedly saying: "I never said that… listen properly." Takiyuddin clarified that he had asked about a development plan for the Indian community, especially estate workers without homes. Another shouting match ensued, prompting Sahar to intervene by muting the microphones and calling for order. Shahar said he had reviewed the exchange and found no issue with Takiyuddin's debate that led to Rayer's contention. "I think I understand what Jelutong has raised. Jelutong, I was here observing and taking notes (on what Kota Baru said), and there was nothing in what you raised just now," he said.

Bangladesh seeks Malaysia's support in rebuilding efforts post-uprising
PUTRAJAYA: Bangladesh has requested Malaysia's assistance in its post-uprising recovery efforts as the country stabilises after last year's student protests. Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus stated that Bangladesh is now on the right track towards progress. He thanked Malaysia and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for their support during the nation's difficult period. Speaking at a joint press conference with Anwar, Yunus noted that Anwar was the first foreign leader to visit Bangladesh after his return to office last year. Yunus described Anwar as a reliable ally, saying, 'It was a wonderful feeling to find a friend to come in time of need when we're desperately looking for support somewhere.' He added, 'We are happy to have that and we strengthen our resolve to making sure Bangladesh is moving in the right ways.' Since assuming leadership, Yunus said his government has worked to restore stability in the country. 'We are happy we restore order in the country, we restore the economy, the institutions and functions,' he said. He confirmed that Bangladesh is preparing for elections in February to establish a new government. 'Now we are ready for elections that will be called in coming February to create new government,' Yunus stated. He emphasised Bangladesh's need for international backing, saying, 'So we need a lot of support. We are looking to Malaysia's support, always.' During his meeting with Anwar, Yunus expressed optimism about strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation. Yunus, on a three-day official visit, also encouraged Malaysian businesses to invest in Bangladesh, calling it a land of 'tremendous opportunity.' He highlighted Bangladesh's request for Malaysia's assistance, as ASEAN Chair, in resolving Rohingya refugee issues. 'So we need all the help we can get. And Malaysia is a good friend,' Yunus added. Malaysia-Bangladesh trade grew by 5.1 per cent in 2024, reaching RM13.35 billion (US$2.92 billion). Bangladesh is Malaysia's second-largest trading partner in South Asia, exporting textiles and footwear while importing petroleum and palm oil.
