Johor Umno Youth slams Amanah's ‘nauseating' habit of pushing for seats

Johor Umno Youth chief Noor Azleen Ambros (left) told Johor Amanah vice-chief Zuhan Zain that seat negotiations will be conducted as a coalition, in this case by BN and PH, and not by the individual components. PETALING JAYA : Johor Umno Youth has described as 'nauseating' Amanah's tendency to stake its claim of seats it wants to contest at the next state election, despite Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan having yet to finalise any negotiations. Johor Umno Youth chief Noor Azleen Ambros said Johor Amanah vice-chief Zuhan Zain had gone overboard by claiming that PH could go solo at the next Johor polls. Zuhan had said he did not discount the possibility of PH clashing with BN – its ally in the unity government – at the 16th general election. Noor Azleen said seat negotiations would be conducted as a coalition, in this case by BN and PH, and not by the individual components. 'So, it is best to refer to your own coalition first before issuing such nauseating statements. 'Also, Amanah should cut its coat according to the cloth. It only has the right to defend one state seat,' he said in a statement, referring to the Simpang Jeram constituency, currently represented by Nazri Abdul Rahman. Last Saturday, Zuhan said Johor PH needed to immediately decide if it wanted to go solo or team up with BN in the next state election. He said it was vital to decide on this as soon as possible to enable the coalition to focus on preparing for the polls, expected to be held early next year. An early decision was also needed to discuss seat allocations if PH intends on continuing to work with BN, he said. In the 2022 state election, Amanah only won one of the 20 seats contested.

Seat talks must be on national basis, says Amanah

Amanah communications director Khalid Samad said the coalitions in the unity government must ensure nobody feels slighted during negotiations for nationwide seat distribution. PETALING JAYA : Amanah has urged for seat negotiations between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) in Melaka to be based on the coalitions' national partnership, instead of being focussed on the state alone. Amanah communications director Khalid Samad said it is not right to conduct negotiations in Melaka without considering the distribution of seats nationwide and in other states, Sinar Harian reported. 'For example, we have given seats to BN in Selangor (in the August 2023 state election). As such, BN should also make way for PH in Melaka. 'If negotiations are only focussed on one state, they will ask for more when it comes to other states,' he was quoted as saying. Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh recently rejected a proposal from nine Melaka DAP branches for PH and BN to contest 14 seats each in the upcoming state election, telling DAP to 'dream on' after the matter was reported by China Press, a local daily. However, he misinterpreted the report as saying that the proposal was made by nine DAP divisions rather than branches. Melaka DAP publicity secretary Kerk Chee Yee clarified that this was merely a grassroots proposal by the branches and that the state chapter had yet to discuss the matter. The Melaka assembly has 28 seats, 20 of which are held by BN, five by PH and three by Perikatan Nasional. Khalid said the coalitions in the unity government must ensure nobody feels slighted in negotiations for nationwide seat distribution. 'We do not want (a situation in which) only one party benefits while the other has to give way. Negotiations need a give-and-take spirit for the sake of the unity government's stability,' he said.

However, he said the strategy has not yet been finalised and a decision would only be made after all component parties held discussions and negotiations. 'In this Unity Government, we will often hear such calls, which is just normal but in the end we will sit down and discuss and negotiate together if there is any need for that.'Although we are facing the Melaka PRN separately, the seat negotiations will be done for the entire country, even though other areas have not yet to hold elections, but when we negotiate, it will involve the entire country,' he told reporters after the Kemubu Agricultural Development Authority (KADA) chairman's morning assembly with staff at KADA headquarters, here the media reported that various parties rejected the DAP proposal which appeared a Chinese-language newspaper report titled '9 DAP Melaka Branches approve the resolution of a 14 BN + 14 PH strategy' in the upcoming Melaka Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said that his party is maintaining the basic principle agreed upon by BN and PH to defend the seats won respectively in the last Melaka has 28 state seats, involving 21 controlled by BN, PH (five) and Perikatan Nasional (two). Be magnanimous in Melaka seat talks, Amanah urges BN

Melaka Amanah chief Ashraf Mukhlis Minghat called for open minds during seat talks for the state polls, after Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh rejected an even division of the 28 seats between PH and BN. PETALING JAYA : Melaka Amanah chief Ashraf Mukhlis Minghat has urged Barisan Nasional (BN) to keep an open heart and mind when holding seat negotiations with Pakatan Harapan (PH) for the next state election. Ashraf said certain allies in BN had responded arrogantly to proposals for the 28 seats to be split evenly between PH and BN, in a swipe at Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh. He argued that PH deserved a greater share of seats to contest despite currently holding just five compared with BN's 20, as the results of the 2022 general election showed that PH had performed better. 'The distinct difference between the outcomes of the state and general elections should motivate Melaka PH and Melaka BN to leverage each other's strengths instead of being proud about the current situation. 'In my view, discussions on seat distribution for the state election should be received with open minds and discussed carefully. Everyone should be free to make proposals. 'The main Melaka BN leaders should be more magnanimous and should not reject proposals from the outset without allowing room for discussions,' he said in a statement. Ashraf said the unity government was built on concessions, noting that Amanah had made way for BN to contest the Lenggeng seat in Negeri Sembilan during the 2023 state election, even though the seat was previously won by Amanah. Yesterday, Akmal rejected a grassroots proposal from nine Melaka DAP branches for PH and BN to contest 14 seats each in the upcoming state election, telling DAP to 'dream on'. However, he misinterpreted a China Press report as saying that the proposal was made by nine DAP divisions rather than branches. Melaka DAP publicity secretary Kerk Chee Yee clarified that this was merely a grassroots proposal by branches, and that the state chapter had yet to discuss the matter.
