Oasis fans slam ‘distasteful' joke after Liam quips about ticket price controversy at first reunion show

Yahoo13 hours ago
Oasis fans have criticised Noel and Liam Gallagher after the latter brother made a taunt about their ticket pricing scandal on the first night of their reunion tour.
Thousands of fans gathered at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, to watch the rock band, who broke up after a backstage fight in 2009.
They tore through hits including 'Morning Glory', 'Supersonic', 'Half the World Away' and 'Stand by Me' with Liam asking the crowd in a clip shared online: 'You having a good time, yeah? Is it worth the £40,000 you paid for the ticket?'
Fans on X/Twitter quickly condemned the comment, with one writing: 'Yeah. Hilarious. Ripping the Fans off.'
'And there you have it, as far as Oasis are concerned ripping off their fans with bulls*** ticket prices is just a joke,' another person remarked.
A third person commented that the Gallaghers had 'become everything they used to despise' adding the evolution of the pair's demeanour was 'sad'.
'Just sing and don't gloat,' another fan advised Liam, while another crowd member said they 'loved the concert' but found the joke 'really distasteful'.

When Oasis announced their reunion tour last August, the band confirmed that general admission for a standing ticket to be £150. However, due to Ticketmaster's surge pricing policy, this quickly shot up to many hundreds of pounds more.
This dynamic pricing policy, which has been heavily criticised in the past, is the system's response to demand, increasing or decreasing prices in line with what scalpers would resell them for, keeping the money in-house for the seller and artist. It is permitted under consumer protection laws.
Following Liam's joke, many social media users said the performance wasn't worth the ticket price. 'Personally, I wouldn't pay £4 for a ticket to see them,' one person said, while another added, 'I wouldn't go if you paid me £40,000.'
In his five-star review of the show, The Independent's Mark Beaumont said it would be 'tough to imagine another comeback on such a momentous scale' as Oasis's, adding the crowd in Cardiff 'howl[ed] the affirmative' when Liam asked if their ticket was worth the cost.

Sculpture trail creates buzz in city

Giant sculptures of bees will be on display in a city's streets and parks for the next two months as it hosts its first art trail. Buzz in the City has swarmed into Chelmsford, Essex, amid hopes it will raise more than £100,000 for the local Farleigh Hospice. Thirty bee sculptures decorated by artists and 15 smaller bee models, painted by schools, care homes and community groups, make up the 6.2-mile (10-km) trail. "We chose bees for their hard-working nature, they are very community spirited - much like the hospice - and their importance to the natural world," said art trail organiser Caroline Smith. More than 20 artists have painted the 6-ft (1.8-m) high sculptures, with designs ranging from abstract to traditional. They went on display across the city on 5 July and will be in place until Tuesday 9 September, when they will be moved to Farleigh Hospice's for a farewell weekend event on 13 and 14 September. The sculptures will be auctioned off on 17 September to raise money for the hospice. The charity provides free hospice care for adults with life-limiting illnesses across mid-Essex and also offers bereavement services to children and adults. Hospice commercial director Pauline Harvey-Jones said: "We decided to do an art trail in Chelmsford as we wanted to raise awareness of Farleigh Hospice in our community, to actually have a really fantastic community event and also to highlight the plight of bees. "We hope when people do the trail, they'll enjoy all the experiences they can have within the city and parks in Chelmsford." Printed maps of the trail are available or visitors can download an app to their phones. Follow Essex news on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram and X. ‘Too Much,' Plus 7 Things on TV this Week

Between streaming and cable, there is a seemingly endless variety of things to watch. Here is a selection of TV shows and specials that are airing or streaming this week, July 7- 13. Details and times are subject to change. Fresh starts. For many millennial women, despite the fact that the finale of 'Girls' aired in 2017, it's never been too far out of the cultural zeitgeist. But now there will be fresh characters, plots and content to analyze with Lena Dunham's new show, 'Too Much.' The story follows Jessica (Megan Stalter), who, fresh off a breakup, moves to London for a new job and ends up falling for Felix (Will Sharpe), an indie musician who has seemingly countless red flags (I am having Adam flashbacks). The story is loosely based on Dunham's real life — after working in Britain and meeting her now-husband, Luis Felber, there, she said she wanted to examine American expats' fantasy of London versus the actual experience. All 10 episodes will be released at once. Streaming Thursday on Netflix. The real-life sisters Kat Sadler and Lizzie Davidson created a British sitcom in which they star as … sisters. The first season of 'Such Brave Girls' tells the story of a mother, Deb (Louise Brealey), and her two daughters, Josie (Sadler) and Billie (Davidson), who navigate life after their father (Deb's husband) leaves. In the second season, coming out this week, no topic is off limits — depression, medication, sex and affairs are all on the table. Streaming Monday on Hulu. Does he love me? Does he love me not? After a two-year hiatus, 'Bachelor in Paradise' is back this week. The show features former contestants who head to a beach, this time in Costa Rica, for a second (or third, or fourth) chance at love. This season, the contestants from 'The Golden Bachelor' franchise are also joining, but it's unclear if there will be intergenerational dating. Jesse Palmer will serve as host, Wells Adams is returning as the bartender and for a new addition, the former 'Bachelorette' Hannah Brown is taking on a role entitled 'paradise relations,' in which she will help with rose ceremonies. Monday at 8 p.m. on ABC and streaming the next day on Hulu. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.
