Ranbir Kapoor's Animal Accused Of 'Copying' Akshay Kumar's Jaanwar: 'Uss Director Ki...'

Jaanwar stars Akshay Kumar and was released in 1999. On the other hand, Ranbir Kapoor's Animal was released in theatres in December 2023.
Ranbir Kapoor's Animal has been accused of copying Akshay Kumar's Jaanwar. In a recent interview, the director of the 1999 movie Suneel Darshan accused Sandeep Reddy Vanga of copying his film. He argued that even though Vanga did his job brilliantly, it would have been better if he had acknowledged that he was taking reference from Jaanwar.
'Main kaise banaun? Meri filmon ki nakal itne log kar chuke hain. Ek film hai Jaanwar. Jaanwar ka English kya hota hai? Uski kahaani kaunsi hai? Aapne Animal dekhi hai na? Aapko pata hai na kaunsi kahaani hai? Lekin main claim nahi karta, kyunki us director ki treatment bahut anokhi thi, aur bahut achhe tareeke se usne us film ko treat kiya. But if the producer had acknowledged the truth, it would have been much better," Darshan told Bollywood Bubble when asked if he wants to remake any of his films.
'I thought it was better to stay silent, because somehow, there have been other films like this too, and they've been massive hits. I feel like I'm inspiring people. My cinema is continuing to inspire them, and those films are becoming huge blockbusters. There's one hero, a very big star, who also did a film that's very, very similar to mine. And the writer from whom they bought the story is also a very big name. That film too was a massive hit. So if you see the film, it's strangely very similar to my film," the director added.
For the unversed, Jaanwar tells the story of Babu, played by Akshay Kumar, a young orphan who falls under the influence of a notorious gangster and becomes a feared criminal. However, after a life-altering tragedy, Babu turns his life around, adopts an abandoned child, and strives to raise him with love, honesty, and integrity. The film explores Babu's journey of redemption, the transformative power of fatherhood, and the challenges of overcoming a violent past.
On the other hand, Animal was released in theatres in December 2023. The film, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead, revolves around a man and his toxic relationship with his father. The film shows Vijay (played by Ranbir) as an anti-hero who would go to any lengths to protect his father, including gunning down 200 people with a machine gun. However, despite his efforts, he struggles to get a seal of approval from his emotionally unavailable father (played by Anil Kapoor).

Bachi Karkaria's Erratica and its cheeky sign-off character, Alec Smart, have had a growing league of followers since 1994 when the column began in the Metropolis on Saturday. It now appears on the Edit Page of the Times of India, every Thursday. It takes a sly dig at whatever has inflated political/celebrity egos, and got public knickers in a twist that week. It makes you chuckle, think and marvel at the elasticity of the English language. It is a shooting-from-the-lip advice column to the lovelorn and otherwise torn, telling them to stop cribbing and start living -- all in her her branded pithy, witty style. LESS ... MORE One more absurd 'cause' for rape 'Attending late-night parties could invite rape or gang rape,' screamed posters plastered on Ahmedabad road dividers. Bet, many passers-by nodded sanctimoniously. However social media outrage over such sexist nonsense forced police to pull down what they themselves had green-lighted. Two senior officials red-facedly admitted that they'd given permission for an NGO's 'traffic awareness' campaign — but had failed to check its content. So once again women get the 'challan' for their violator's out-of-control libido – and leave the actual menace free to rape again The rare instances of men being told to refrain equally trivialise this grave and continuous crime. Haryana khap panchayat member Jitender Chhatar made the remarkable medical discovery that 'chowmein leads to hormonal imbalance evoking an urge to indulge in such acts'. So MSG actually stands for 'male sexual glutamate'? Wow! CPI leader Atul Kumar Anjan's finding was equally awesome. At a UP rally, he thundered that the 'condom ad featuring Sunny Leone will unleash more rapes'. He got his come-uppance: he 'kept vomiting' after watching porn, 'only for one-or two minutes' and, of course, 'only for research purposes'. Sometimes ''Tis not in ourselves, but in our stars, that we are …' Endorsing Shakespeare, a Bangalore astrologer concluded that 'Aries women are likely to be raped in the bathroom' and a Capricornian victimised by 'father, mother or colleague'. Sort of agreeing, the 94-year-old shankaracharya of Dwarka Peeth said women 'should stop all their drum-beating' over visiting the inner sanctum of Maharashtra's Shani Shingnapur temple. 'Worshipping Shani will bring ill luck to them and give rise to crimes against them like rape.' A day later, he blamed honeymooners and picnickers for the 2013 Kedarnath flash floods in Uttarakhand, warning that such a 'polluting' of sacred Hindu sites would lead to more disasters. So now we know that women only are to blame for 'wearing tight clothes' and not obeying such important rules. They never get raped because they belong to wrong caste, creed or class. Who asked them work in a powerful politician's house or public hospital; go on assignment to deserted mills; or take a late bus home? What's rape got to do with our indulgently saying 'boys will be boys'? Then, Sir, girls can also be girls, no? Ed Sheeran Slams Lip-Syncing Artists: 'They Do It But Will Never Admit It'

Ed Sheeran called out fellow musicians for lip-syncing on stage, saying 'they would never admit it.' He also shared why he can't get away with miming. Ed Sheeran says he always sings live and can't mime due to his loop pedal setup. Ed Sheeran has called out a common yet controversial practice in the music industry—lip-syncing during live performances. The Grammy-winning artist, who is currently touring Europe as part of his Mathematics Tour, recently made some candid revelations about fellow musicians who mime on stage but rarely own up to it. During a fun segment on a Beta Squad YouTube video, Sheeran was tasked with identifying voices of popular singers. While interacting with the participants, one contestant admitted that she would consider lip-syncing if her voice wasn't up to par. Ed responded, 'I don't know if a professional singer would admit to miming." Another contestant followed up, saying, 'I thought a lot of professional artists do that though?" To this, Ed Sheeran agreed but added, 'They don't admit to it though." When asked if he had ever lip-synced in his career, Sheeran clarified that he doesn't have that luxury due to his unique performance style. 'I can't get away with it because it's me with a loop pedal and a guitar," he said. 'But I would never cancel a show for my voice. I'd always push through, even if it was, like, slightly raspy." Sheeran doubled down on his point, stating, 'I feel like if you are a professional singer, even if you do mime—because there are professional singers that mime, but they would never admit that they mime." The Shape of You singer has long been praised for his no-frills, raw stage presence, often relying solely on his vocals, guitar, and loop pedal to entertain massive stadium crowds. His honesty about the behind-the-scenes practices of the industry has sparked fresh conversations about the authenticity of live performances. Currently, Ed Sheeran is continuing the European leg of his Mathematics Tour, which first kicked off in 2022. He is scheduled to perform next at Middenvijver Park in Antwerp, Belgium, on August 7. Akshay Kumar 'Dated' Raveena Tandon During Mohra? Rajiv Rai Says 'The News Came Out...'

Last Updated: Rajiv Rai clarified that during the actual shoot of Mohra, there were no signs of any off-screen romance. Rajiv Rai, the director behind cult classics like Tridev, Mohra and Gupt, has finally opened up about the long-standing buzz surrounding Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon's alleged relationship during the making of Mohra. In a recent interview with Vickey Lalwani, Rajiv was asked if he had any idea about the romance between the two lead actors when they filmed the iconic songs Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast and Tip Tip Barsa Paani. In response, the filmmaker quipped, 'I wasn't sitting there with binoculars, was I?" When pressed further about whether he could pick up on their body language, Rajiv explained, 'There's no question about it… There are 100-200 people on set. Every actor has to be well-behaved. A heroine has to maintain her reputation. Don't you think she knows there are a thousand eyes watching her? So, to be very honest, I never saw anything. Whatever I later heard, I was pleasantly surprised like, is this really true?" He clarified that during the actual shoot of Mohra, there were no signs of any off-screen romance. 'It all came out later. People ask if it happened during Mohra, but it had nothing to do with the film," he added. In the 1990s, Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon were one of Bollywood's most talked-about couples and were even briefly engaged before parting ways. Raveena, in a separate chat with ANI, addressed how her past with Akshay still follows her. 'Once I had moved out of his life, I was already dating someone else, and he was already dating someone else, so kahan se jealousy ayegi?" She added, 'Girls have been changing their boyfriends every week in colleges, but one engagement that has broken is still stuck to my head, I don't know why. Everyone moves on." Akshay Kumar is now married to Twinkle Khanna, while Raveena tied the knot with producer Anil Thadani in 2004. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
