800 members of Gujarati group cancel trip to Turkey amid boycott clamour: ‘Least we can do for India'

Mint15-05-2025

The Jain Lotus Group from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, has joined the growing chorus of those boycotting Turkey following the country's recent show of support for Pakistan. More than 800 members of the group had planned a 12-day trip to Turkey post-Diwali – which now stands cancelled, Mid-Day reported.
The Jain Lotus Group is the latest to join the clamour against visiting Turkey, after prominent travel platforms like EaseMyTrip and Ixigo issued advisories discouraging travel to these nations. 'Bookings for Azerbaijan and Turkey decreasing by 60% (over the last week) while cancellations have surged by 250% during the same period,' Reuters quoted a spokesperson for MakeMyTrip as saying.
Turkey and Azerbaijan are facing widespread backlash for showing support towards Pakistan following heightened tensions between India and Pakistan in the wake of Operation Sindoor – a retaliatory strike against terror targets after the Pahalgam attack.
The Jain Lotus Group, an Ahmedabad-based organisation with a membership of over 1,000 couples, had scheduled a trip to Turkey following Diwali, according to a report by Mid-Day.
'We have cancelled the trip due to this. About 800 people from our Jain Lotus Group were to go to Turkey after Diwali. We had planned a tour of 12 days and 11 nights. We had decided to go to four places in Turkey, including Cappadocia and Istanbul.
'All the members had planned to reach Turkey in groups of 80 people every third day, not on the same day,' Shah explained.
'However, considering the current situation between India and Pakistan, the core committee, including our president and joint secretary, took everyone's individual opinions and the committee jointly decided that we would not go to Turkey to tour, a country that supports our country's enemy, Pakistan,' said the treasurer.
Shah said: "Least we could do for India. We cannot go to war as an army, but we can do this much in support of the country, right?' he said.

Air India venture sacks four seniors for office party soon after plane crash

Four senior executives at Air India SATS (AISATS) have been asked to resign after a video of an office party in Gurugram went viral, sparking widespread outrage. The video surfaced just days after the devastating Air India flight AI171 crash on June 12, 2025, which killed 259 people and left the nation in mourning. The clip, which featured AISATS Chief Operating Officer Abraham Zachariah and other staff members dancing to loud music, was widely circulated on social media. The timing of the celebration—held shortly after one of India's deadliest aviation disasters—was widely condemned as tone-deaf and deeply insensitive. Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner en route to London, crashed into a hostel for medical students at Ahmedabad's BJ Medical College shortly after takeoff. Of the 260 people on board, only one survived. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 'Swing is King': Mr. Hemant's Strategy Finally Explained in Free Session TradeWise Learn More Undo — TheSquind (@TheSquind) As grieving families awaited the repatriation of victims' remains, the video drew sharp criticism for its perceived lack of empathy. Many users on social media slammed the company for insensitivity and poor judgment. Live Events In response, AISATS issued a statement saying, 'At AISATS, we stand in solidarity with the families affected by the tragic loss of AI171 and deeply regret the lapse in judgment reflected in a recent internal video. The behaviour does not align with our values, and firm disciplinary action has been taken against those responsible as we reaffirm our commitment to empathy, professionalism, and accountability.' While AISATS did not specify when the party occurred, sources confirmed that four senior staff members were terminated for their direct involvement in organizing the event. AISATS is a joint venture between Air India, now owned by the Tata Group, and Singapore-based SATS Ltd., a global leader in airport services. The company emphasized that disciplinary action had been taken to uphold its ethical standards, but the damage to its public image amid a national tragedy has already drawn significant backlash.

Ex-CEO of Ocean Parks Fined $10,000 a Day in Spat With Lenders

(Bloomberg) -- The former chief executive officer of a string of bankrupt, dolphin-themed animal parks is facing a $10,000-a-day fine, after he was accused of using credit-card readers he bought at Costco to divert ticket revenue away from his company's Mexican locations. A federal judge in Delaware imposed the sanctions on Eduardo Albor, who has been fighting US-based lenders for control of The Dolphin Company, which has theme parks in Latin America, the US and Europe. Judge Laurie Silverstein ordered him to stop interfering in the company's operations and give new management access to bank accounts and other financial records. The months-long dispute between Albor and lender-backed new management has disrupted the company's operations and has threatened the welfare of hundreds of dolphins, sea lions and other animals. The newly appointed independent directors have raised concern about animal welfare at the company's theme parks, as a number of dolphins have died in recent months. Regulators have also tightened scrutiny of the company. The animals are both the main attractions at the parks and valuable collateral for more than $100 million in debt. Albor spent decades building the Dolphin Company into a multinational corporation, but lost control of his empire earlier this year after the company defaulted on about $100 million of debt owed to Cigna Health and Life Insurance Company and The Prudential Insurance Company of America, according to a May court filing. The lenders had been trying to remove Albor since the default last year. In April, Albor installed new credit-card terminals at the Mexican parks, after lenders took control of the parent company and stripped him of his corporate authority, lenders alleged in court filings. The terminals allegedly allowed Albor to divert ticket-sale proceeds away from The Dolphin Company's bank accounts, which had been taken over by the new, US-based management team, they said. The cash, collected just as peak tourist season hit, was instead put into new accounts set up by Albor and used, in part, to pay his legal bills in Mexico, according to court filings. The judge's sanctions did not mention the new credit-card terminals, but focused on Albor's efforts to file court challenges in Mexico claiming to still be in charge of The Dolphin Company. Albor has used court cases in Mexico to try to block lenders from taking over the company and to remove their representatives from the headquarters in Cancun. During a court hearing this week, Albor's attorney defended the former executive, arguing that Albor has been cooperating with the new managers. The new payment machines were installed in the parks and new bank accounts opened because The Dolphin Company's main accounts had been frozen, said attorney James C. Moon. The new accounts allowed Albor to pay employees at the parks in Mexico and feed the animals, Moon told the judge. The two sides have been fighting over company records, computer systems and access to employees who are needed to operate the Mexican businesses. In April, Albor, with help from state police officers, took back control of The Dolphin Company's headquarters building, which the executive owns. After putting the corporation into bankruptcy in the US, lenders had temporarily changed the locks on the building, including on Albor's personal office. The case is Leisure Investments Holdings LLC, number 25-10606, in the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. More stories like this are available on
