Brunettes with greasy roots: I tried Blake Lively's new affordable haircare brand, and I'm obsessed with its dry shampoo

As a new mom, I've struggled to find little moments of self care. The calm of a hot shower has become my favorite reprieve, and I have a few products that help me reset with their transportive aromas. Blake Brown, the beautifully-scented hair care brand I just can't get enough of these days, is one of them.
Founded by Blake Lively, Blake Brown is chicly designed and hyper-focused on luxurious scents that you'll want to spritz all over — but as I've consistently used the products, I've learned that the formulas are really, really good, too.
"Hair care is deeply personal. It's not just about aesthetics, it's about identity, mood, and how you carry yourself," Lively tells me through an email interview. "I've been lucky enough to learn from some of the best hair stylists, colorists, and artists in the world who use the best products out there — but I noticed a gap. Those products delivered incredible results, but they were rarely clean, they came at luxury price points, and the scents, while nice, weren't ones I'd choose as my signature fragrance."
Thus, her years-long journey to creating Blake Brown began.
The beginning of Blake Brown
Blake Brown joined Lively's brand lineup in August of 2024 (the actor also heads Betty Buzz and Betty Booze). Since then, it's dropped a handful of hair care essentials like the fan-fave Amber Vanille Dry Shampoo and All-In-Wonder Leave-In Potion.
"From day one, I partnered with Give Back Beauty because they shared my values and vision for what Blake Brown could be," says Lively of the brand's origins. "They never once compromised on quality or rushed development."
The affordable collection ranges from $19 to $25 at Target. "Target felt like the perfect home for Blake Brown because it's where people shop for everyday essentials and little luxuries. I wanted our products to offer the full experience: performance you can feel from the first use, clean formulations, beautiful packaging, and fragrances you'd happily wear as perfume, at a price that makes them an easy addition to your weekly routine." Her reasoning? "Beautiful, quality haircare should not have to be a rare splurge."
The Strengthening Duo: Sandalwood Vanille Shampoo and Mask
Pros: The mask is better at nourishing and hydrating than a standard shampoo/conditioner combo
Cons: It can be difficult scooping out the last of the product due to the unique jar shape
I've always rotated between a few shampoo and conditioner duos, not really falling in love with any one brand — but I've been consistently using Blake Brown since it first launched. Uniquely, Lively has entirely left out the conditioner step, instead pairing her shampoo with a decadent mask that amps up your hair's strength and shine.
Not only do they both smell divine, but the shampoo creates a sumptuous lather and the mask feels thick and rich, effortlessly coating my strands. The result: damp hair that feels easy to brush through, and air-dried hair that has minimal frizz and a healthy sheen.
The Sandalwood Vanille Hair & Body Mist
These days, caring for a baby means my fave perfumes have been collecting dust (since fragrance can easily transfer to her delicate skin) — but this Hair & Body Mist has been my newest best kept secret and ultimate mom hack.
"Fragrance is at the heart and soul of Blake Brown because for me, fragrance defines my mood," says Lively. "I don't know how to pick a favorite — the fragrances were made to layer beautifully together, and they sure do."
The Sandalwood Vanille scent has notes of heated vanilla, sandalwood, and dry, earthy vetiver. It's soft and sensual, yet the aroma's warmth lingers on my strands for hours. Plus, since it's meant to be spritzed on tresses, there aren't any harmful ingredients — like silicones and parabens — that can damage or weigh down your hair. I feel put-together finally having a signature scent again and grateful that my little girl doesn't have to "wear" my perfume.
The Blackcurrant Vanille Classic Hairspray
The Classic Hairspray is Blake Brown's newest addition to the collection, and it creates a soft-medium hold while being invisible. What's more, the flexible hold allows you to run your fingers through your hair without ever feeling crunchy strands.
"We made sure it was as robust as a professional hairspray in hold and performance, while maintaining a softness and brush-ability which is tricky to do," says Lively. "The result is a hairspray that can work as hard as you need, or simply be a soft, finishing touch [with a] signature fragrance."
After wearing my hair in a slicked-back bun in New York's heat, I can confirm it kept my flyaways at bay.
The Amber Vanille Dry Shampoo
While dry shampoo powders and sprays often leave a white cast or gritty texture at my roots, this mist refreshes my hair in between washes, all while being surprisingly lightweight and completely invisible on my dark brunette hair.
Immediately, I can see why this product has become a standout for the brand. It has officially replaced the dry shampoos I was using before. It helps renew my look, and importantly, I don't feel like I'm overloading my scalp with product.
The bottom line
Lively may be best known as an actor, but in my opinion, she's firmly planted her stake in the beauty world with Blake Brown. Not only do the elegant scents set her brand apart on the shelves, but the formulas have my hair looking and feeling well-loved.
If you're obsessed with luxurious fragrances, this line is worth a try. The Sandalwood Vanille Shampoo & Mask and Dry Shampoo are total must-haves that I use on the regular.

Childlike Habits Adults Refuse To Give Up

Since everyone's always talking about "healing their inner child," let's talk about the things we're doing to make that happen. I recently bought myself a Squishmallow and felt my soul light up again. If you need inspiration, you're in luck. In one Reddit thread (which you can see here), people shared the "little kid" things they still do in adulthood, and honestly, I need to start doing more of these. Here are 18 childlike things that people love doing as grown-ups: "I always use 'The Force' to open automatic doors." "Every single time I go to Target, I have to walk down the Lego aisle. I don't even buy them, I just like to look at the big, complicated sets and imagine building them." –BiscottiCute1 "I never miss an opportunity to test my balance. Curb raised higher than the sidewalk? I'm balancing and walking on it. As a kid, I walked miles balancing on railroad tracks. I'm almost 70 years old, and the same idea applies." "Watching cartoons. As an adult living in today's world, I just need a break from reality and want something funny and innocent." "Buying dino nuggets. I'm a legal adult who can cook actual food, but sometimes you just have a bad day and the only cure is dinosaur-shaped chicken." –joannamiller05 "I'm 36. I still sleep with quite a few stuffed animals in my bed and have a special blanket too. No fucks given, love my big ass stuffed animals and blanket very much. Indulge yourself, who cares? And if they do, they ain't a friend." "Rainbow sprinkles on my ice cream. They look so cheerful and I like the crunch. Chocolate sprinkles are not an acceptable substitue. I want every color of food dye or no deal." –baby_armadillo "Mimicking the Olympic event I just watched, especially if it's gymnastics or figure skating. Must say 'I can do that' with confidence and then immediately not do it in any remotely accurate or successful way. The only problem now is I break furniture AND body parts." "Going into pet stores just to look at all the fish, reptiles, and other animals there. Bonus points if there are cats, too." –NoSoup5774 "Looking for frogs and crayfish in creeks and ponds. I'll never be too old to get excited over catching a frog!" "Coming home with cool-looking rocks in my pockets." –MikrokosmicUnicorn "I love anything sparkly. I'll be the only one in the nursing home with a bedazzled walker." "Driving by farm animals and saying their names out loud. 'Hi, cows!' 'Horses!' 'Have a nice day, goatie goats!'" –I2AMDOOM "Putting crisps in sandwiches (that's chips to my American friends)." "Buying action figures and collectibles. I will never stop collecting, and they are for all ages." "I will never stop climbing trees. I've been scolded in parks by elderly people who seem to think that 35 is too old to be in a tree." –WillyBluntz89 "Running up the basement stairs on all fours like a cryptid because it's dark and spooky down there. I'm 19. I know there's no monster, but my lizard brain says 'go fast' and that's the fastest way." What are the "little kid" things you'll never stop doing? Let me know in the comments!

Fans think Taylor Swift's new song 'Ruin the Friendship' is about Blake Lively

Swift and Lively's relationship has been under scrutiny since the "It Ends With Us" actress' legal battle with costar and director Justin Baldoni. Another Taylor Swift era, another round of pre-release speculation about who her new songs could be about. When the pop icon announced the tracklist to her upcoming 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, on the New Heights podcast Wednesday, Swifties immediately did what they do best and started parsing through each song title for possible meaning. One in particular caught their eye: "Ruin the Friendship." Fans immediately hit social media with their theories that the song, which is the sixth track on the album, could be about longtime Swift pal Blake Lively and the status of their friendship. To recap, Lively's ongoing and very public legal battle with her It Ends With Us costar and director Justin Baldoni began in December 2024. The pair took legal action against each other, with Lively accusing Baldoni of sexual harassment and launching a smear campaign, and Baldoni launching a countersuit, alleging defamation and extortion. Since then, Swift and Lively's relationship has been under scrutiny. The Grammy winner got pulled into the mix when a complaint filed by Baldoni's legal team (which was later dismissed) alleged that she had pressured him to accept Lively's script changes on the movie, which Lively's team called "categorically false." Baldoni's countersuit included text messages between Lively and Baldoni, in which the actress seemingly alludes to Swift as "one of her dragons" while likening herself to Game of Thrones' Khaleesi (Emilia Clarke). Then, in May 2025, matters reached a fever pitch when Baldoni's team attempted to subpoena Swift, which prompted a rep for the pop star to slam the maneuver as a scheme to generate "tabloid clickbait." "Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release, and was traveling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history," a spokesperson for Swift told Entertainment Weekly at the time. For their part, Swift and Lively have not publicly commented on how, or if, any of this has affected their friendship, though they haven't been seen in public together in quite some time. And while Swift never reveals who her songs are about, she has been open about how she uses real-life inspirations in her music (after all, Lively and Ryan Reynolds' children have had cameos in or served as character name inspiration in tracks such as "Gorgeous" and "Betty"). A rep for Swift didn't immediately respond to EW's request for comment Thursday, but, the singer herself did provide some possible context on the New Heights podcast Wednesday. In the conversation, which was between Swift, her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and his brother, Jason, the singer revealed that she (somehow?) found time while she was on her Eras Tour in Europe to record Showgirl. "I just love it a lot. I love music," Swift shared. "I would be playing shows. I'd do, like, three shows in a row. I'd have three days off. I'd fly to Sweden, go back to the tour — and actually, like, working on this – I was physically exhausted at this point in the tour, but I was so mentally stimulated and so excited to be creating." The European leg of Swift's tour took place between May and August of 2024, so if the album was written and recorded in its entirety during that time, it likely couldn't be about Lively, given that the It Ends With Us drama began in earnest in December of that year. But, until Swift or Lively provide more insight, fans are just going to have to wait til The Life of a Showgirl releases on Oct. 3 to find out just who or what the song could be about. Insiders Claim Whether Taylor Swift's New Album Has Songs About Donald Trump & Blake Lively

As soon as Taylor Swift announced TS12 coming out, the speculation hit an all-time high. While we know for certain that he main color of this era will be orange, and that the album will be called The Life of a Showgirl, there's not much else known. Fans have speculated what it's inspired by, and some even claim that photos and the track list were leaked, it's all in the air. However, insiders claim we can expect a few things: including songs about US President Donald Trump and Swift's former BFF Blake Lively. Obviously, you're probably wondering: 'A Trump song?! What does that mean?' Well, Swift famously endorsed Kamala Harris, and since then, Trump has made many pointed remarks and disses at her. Per Billboard, he has posted about her a lot on Truth Social, saying, 'I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,' 'The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving,' and 'Has anyone noticed that, since I said 'I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,' she's no longer 'HOT?'' More from SheKnows Kai Trump Reveals Big New Milestone in Photos That Show a Subtle Shift From Grandpa Donald Trump An insider told DailyMail that while TS12 'isn't a political record,' but Swift has a lot to say. '[She was] motivated by the excitement around Kamala last year which is when she recorded some of the songs,' they said. 'Taylor has a point to prove and is ready to silence people who said her career has 'broke' because she went 'woke.'' (And if we're going by the alleged leaked track list, per StyleCaster, it seems like the tenth song, 'Cancelled!' will probably be about this!) Now, what about Lively? As many know, Swift was dragged into Lively's legal drama with Baldoni, with Swift getting added to Baldoni's countersuit. In this countersuit, Baldoni revealed texts, where Lively seemingly referred to Swift as one of her 'dragons' to defend her. At the time, insiders claimed Swift 'doesn't appreciate being referred to as one of Blake's dragons' and 'can't help but feel used,' according to another Page Six article. (There have been reports of a reconciliation, but nothing concrete yet.) The insiders claim that Swift will probably touch on the former friendship, saying, 'She did write about Blake last year, but it's no longer the focus of the album because she wanted it to be positive and feel-good.' (Again, if we check out the leaked lineup, we can infer 'Ruin the Friendship' may be about this situation!)Best of SheKnows 22 Famous Women Who Have Played Roxie in Chicago on Broadway 13 Famous Women You Totally Forgot Elvis Dated Celebrities Who Died Tragically Young: Kelley Mack, Lucy Markovic, & More Solve the daily Crossword
