England star will be 'fuming' with Thomas Tuchel after Senegal loss, says Keane

Roy Keane believes Ivan Toney will be 'fuming' with Thomas Tuchel after England's 3-1 defeat to Senegal on Tuesday night. Tuchel suffered his first loss as England manager as his players were booed off at The City Ground. Harry Kane put England in front from close range in the seventh minute but Senegal were level before the break as Ismaila Sarr met Nicolas Jackson's cross to fire past Dean Henderson. England struggled to get out of the blocks at the start of the second half and Habib Diarra gave Senegal a deserved lead in the 62nd minute. Former Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy made two fine saves to maintain Senegal's lead before England thought they had equalised through Jude Bellingham. However, referee Stephanie Frappart disallowed the goal with the help of VAR after the ball hit Levi Colwill's arm in the build up. Senegal then sealed their win with a superb counter-attack in the 90th minute which was finished by Cheikh Sabaly. Toney, meanwhile, was left on the bench for the 1-0 win over Andorra on Saturday and was brought on as a substitute in the 88th minute for the defeat to Senegal. And Keane feels the 29-year-old, who scored 30 goals in his first season for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli this season, will be unhappy with Tuchel's decision. 'The other subs had a bit of an impact, better than the other day [against Andorra], so that's a bit of a plus,' Keane told ITV. 'But if you're Toney and you're getting three, four, five minutes, do you know what you'd be fuming.' Former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright added: 'I can only look at it like he's seen him all week, he didn't look to put him on until that late, I don't know what he's seen in training that he may not like up to this point. 'I was very surprised to see him not come on, especially when we saw Morgan Gibbs-White and Morgan Rogers come on, I would be disappointed if I was him but you've got to keep going.' When asked by ITV about his decision to bring on Toney so late in the game, Tuchel replied: 'First of all it was more than three minutes. 'Second of all, I think Ivan is a specialist for these situations, we created a lot of chances with Morgan Gibbs-White, with Ebs [Eberechi Eze], with Morgan Rogers and with Jude [Bellingham] in fluid positions. 'I think Ivan is the strongest if we have a phase where we have a lot of balls into the box, and that was the case so after 80 minutes we made him ready. 'Then we scored and they took the goal away so it took a while longer than we wanted. 'Basically that's what he can give – presence in the box and a goal late in the match.' More Trending Tuchel then added in his post-match press conference: 'No, it was too early. 'We wanted to play there with Morgan Rogers, more fluid, much more physical player, I think it was too early for Ivan because the game was so, so physical, the opponent was so physical, we were not close enough to the goal consistently to get his strengths into play. 'We tried to bring him on for a special task to be in the end in the box and use his experience in finishing. 'For me, he is on this kind of level, a player who needs to be in the box, and he needs to be in and very, very close to the box, and in the moment earlier when we had the changes we were not so close in the box, it was a more open game, it was a lot of intensity needed against the ball to get into a higher pressing situation because we struggled on the ball, so we wanted to bring more bodies into the opponent's half to play a higher press and we chose different players for that.' Arsenal reignite interest in Newcastle and Chelsea target as asking price slashe

Arsenal are showing an interest in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi again, as the defender heads into the final year of his contract. The 24-year-old was a target for the Gunners 12 months ago, along with a number of other clubs including Newcastle, Liverpool and his former team Chelsea. The Eagles stuck firm to their lofty asking price of £70m and no deal was done, with Guehi staying put and going on to win the FA Cup with Palace. However, the England international's contract at Selhurst Park expires next year so his price tag will be significantly lower this summer. The Mirror report that with Guehi now much more affordable than a year ago, Arsenal's interest has been reignited, although their pursuit of him will not be straightforward. Not only will there be plenty of competition again from their Premier League rivals, but the 23-cap England international may take some convincing to move to the Emirates. Mikel Arteta has established a very reliable partnership at centre-back in Gabriel and William Saliba, one that will not easily be broken. Gabriel signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal earlier this month and the club is working on Saliba doing the same. There is interest from Real Madrid in the Frenchman and the Gunners are very keen to keep hold of the impressive centre-back. That puts in question their interest in Guehi as he will not want to move to any club where he would not be a guaranteed starter. The Athletic report that Arteta wants genuine competition to his first-choice central defenders and Arsenal made a move for Bournemouth's Dean Huijsen before he made his £50m transfer to Real Madrid. Newcastle made three bids for Guehi last summer, going as high as £60m, but could not convince Palace to sell. With a return to the Champions League, the Magpies could come back with another offer as he is now likely available for less than they bid in 2024. Joined from Chelsea in July 2021 for £18m Appearances: 155 Goals: 8 Trophies: 2024/25 FA Cup Guehi has offered little on his future, saying before Palace beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final: 'My only focus is this game. 'My only focus is the fact that I am under contract at Palace. So as far as I am concerned, I am a Palace player.' Last month The Sun reported that Guehi may choose to run down his contract at Crystal Palace and see his options expand further when he will be available on a free transfer next summer. Real Madrid and Barcelona have been touted as possible destinations for the defender if he were to leave Selhurst Park on a free. MORE: When does the transfer window reopen and why has it closed? Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens left furious after move to Chelsea ahead of the Club World Cup collapses

Jamie Gittens sped away from Borussia Dortmund 's Hohenbuschei training ground on Tuesday night disappointed after being denied a move to Chelsea in time for the Club World Cup. Chelsea left it late to raise their offer for the England U21 international winger and ultimately, with the clock ticking, chose not to go beyond a bid of £42million. They had previously put in a £29.5m bid that was also knocked back by the Bundesliga outfit. The 20-year-old hopes they rekindle talks once the summer window re-opens and that Dortmund moderate their demands for £55m. Dortmund have named him in their Club World Cup squad. Chelsea had earlier pulled out of talks for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan after the Italians refused to drop their £20m valuation for the 30-year-old. The Blues had been keen to sign the France No 1, but refused to push beyond £15m, with the 29-year-old having just one year remaining on his Milan contract. However, Chelsea did agree a nominal fee with Manchester City for the sale of goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli. He has signed a one-year deal and is available to City for the Club World Cup. Bettinelli is expected to be City's third-choice shot-stopper for the tournament behind Ederson and Stefan Ortega following the departure of Scott Carson.
