Patriots coach Mike Vrabel shares update on WR Stefon Diggs

New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel shared an update on wide receiver Stefon Diggs when speaking with media members ahead of mandatory minicamp.
The four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver has been working through the offseason program as a limited participant due to the ACL injury he suffered with the Houston Texans last season. He was seen at OTAs running drills and helping to coach up his teammates from the sideline.

Along with contributing on the stat sheet, the Patriots are hoping Diggs can help bring the younger receivers along in their development. Vrabel is pleased with how Diggs has remained engaged despite being limited with the ACL injury.
"He's trying to figure out where everything is and what his role is and making sure that as we add those situations—the third down, the no-huddle and red zone—that he's staying up on it, working hard in his rehab," said Vrabel, via NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. "Certain drills he can be out there and there's certain drills that he won't be, but I think he's engaged and I like his energy."
Diggs stepping in and contributing right away as a locker room leader is a great sign for the Patriots. There are currently 12 receivers on the roster with plenty of untapped talent. It could be a game-changer if Diggs could get some of those players going, including second-year wideouts Ja'Lynn Polk and Javon Baker.

Sure, the Patriots needed a top receiving weapon, but they also needed a leader in that room with the resume of a true No. 1 receiver.
They might have found both with Diggs.

Cowboys' $97 million man targeting Week 1 return after 2 years of injuries

Cowboys' $97 million man targeting Week 1 return after 2 years of injuries After tearing his ACL last season, Diggs has his sights set on returning for the season opener. Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs, who missed the final six games last season after undergoing surgery to repair a knee injury, has his sights set on returning Week 1 vs the Philadelphia Eagles, according to reporter Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News. While the All-Pro is hoping to follow through on his first major goal of the upcoming 2025 season, it will ultimately come down to how well he progresses during training camp. Dallas signed Diggs to a five-year, $97 million extension heading into the 2023 season, but he hasn't played much since then. The former 2020 second-round pick has battled through the injury bug and has missed plenty of football, 21 games to be exact, over the past two seasons, most notably in 2023 after a gruesome ACL tear suffered during a September practice sidelined him for 15 games. Before the injuries came into the picture, Diggs had firmly established himself as one of the NFL's premier playmakers on the back end. His ability to take away a side of the field, bait quarterbacks into mistakes, and create game-changing turnovers made him a centerpiece of Dallas' defense and a massive piece to replace once he went down. Now under new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, the Cowboys will be eager to see Diggs back in the fold as well as hope to see Diggs and fellow All-Pro teammate DaRon Bland see plenty of action on the field at the same time.

How Jets' Steve Wilks is challenging Sauce Gardner to reach next level

New Jets defensive coordinator Steve Wilks gave cornerback Sauce Gardner a challenge when the two met after Wilks was hired. 'He's been a Pro Bowl player,' Wilks said. 'How consistent can he be to take it to another level? That's one of the things that I challenged him on Day 1 when we had our conversation. I felt like, and you guys feel the same way, that he's one of the top corners in the league, but that consistency of being that dominant player each and every week, that's what we're looking for and that's been his challenge this offseason. 'He's very gifted, and I told him sometimes your greatest strength is your greatest weakness. He's a guy that sometimes that 85 percent is still better than everybody around him, so his thing is, and I told him, compete against yourself. That's where he has to get better, which he will.' Gardner was first-team All-Pro in his first two seasons but did not have as strong of a season last year. He is eligible for a contract extension, and the Jets face a major decision on how much to invest in the star corner. One knock on Gardner in his career has been his lack of interceptions. 'That's finishing as we talked about, and he's been working on that for us,' Wilks said. 'Taking more time with the Jugs [machine] and getting extra catches in and understanding how to catch the ball away from your body just like a receiver would do. But I always say this, and I know there's a lot of talk about him, but he's only going to be as good as the guys around him, so it's all about trying to make sure that we all, particularly on the back end, pushing in the same direction.' Second-year WR Malachi Corley missed practice again Wednesday with an undisclosed injury. Jets offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand talks with reporters on June 11, 2025. Bill Kostroun for New York Post Corley has missed a lot of time this spring, and it could cost him in a tight competition at wide receiver. Offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand said Corley will have to catch up in training camp. 'That's a great question really for him to ask, 'How do I get myself mentally caught back up, because I wasn't able to get the physical reps this spring?' ' Engstrand said. 'And ultimately, that's going to be what it is, because the other guys do, they have a handful of practices ahead of him and those physical reps. So, he's going to have to find a way to catch himself up with that stuff.' Rookie WR Arian Smith also did not practice Wednesday. LB Quincy Williams was on the field in uniform but did not participate in team drills. QB Justin Fields said he plans on getting together with the wide receivers and tight ends during the break before training camp.

J.K. Dobbins Sends Clear Message on His Free Agency Decision

J.K. Dobbins Sends Clear Message on His Free Agency Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Denver Broncos are entering the 2025 NFL season with a reinforced roster and heightened expectations. After a postseason appearance in 2024, general manager George Payton signed two former San Francisco 49ers, linebacker Dre Greenlaw and safety Talanoa Hufanga, to three-year deals worth $35 million and $39 million, respectively. Advertisement Both former 49ers bring Pro Bowl credentials and playoff experience to a defense that already ranked third in points per game allowed (18.3) last season. With second-year quarterback Bo Nix, 25, looking to build on a successful rookie campaign, Denver has positioned itself as a team to watch in the AFC. But the most notable addition came later in free agency — one that could reshape the Broncos' offensive identity. J.K. Dobbins runs the ball against the New Orleans A. Vasquez-Imagn Images That move was the signing of 26-year-old running back J.K. Dobbins, who joins Denver after a bounce-back season with the Los Angeles Chargers. 'I felt like it was the best fit for me,' Dobbins said. 'Defense is really good, like super good. Quarterback's amazing. I like the RB room. O-line is amazing as well. So, it was a no-brainer... I also heard that it's a good fan base. So that's why I'm here.' A former Ohio State star and 2020 second-round pick, he's totaled 2,252 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns across 37 career games, averaging an impressive 5.2 yards per carry. Advertisement Dobbins rushed for 905 yards and nine touchdowns in 2024, ranking 22nd and 14th in the league, respectively. It marked a full-circle return after an Achilles tear in 2023, a setback that had cast doubt on his long-term explosiveness.
