Palace hits VP Sara Duterte anew over scathing remarks vs. Marcos
In a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro was asked for a comment on Duterte's criticisms, including calling the President and his leadership a ''budol'' or scam.
''Budol, talaga? Castro said.
(Scam, really? I don't know who's scamming. As we see the President working and instructing us to focus on our jobs and not on politics, who's scamming?)
She also slammed the Vice President for questioning the country's national debt, saying that part of the P16.75 trillion was accumulated during her father's, former President Rodrigo Duterte's, administration.
''Okay, tandaan po natin, ang utang na 16 trillion ay kabuuang utang ng gobyerno simula pa ng mga nakaraang administrasyon. At tatandaan din po natin na ang administrasyon ni Pangulong Duterte ang naitalang may pinakamataas na naging utang na umabot ng 12.79 trillion as of June 2022,'' Castro said.
(Okay, let's remember that the P16 trillion debt was accumulated from the previous administrations. Let's also recall that during the administration of former President Duterte, the debt was recorded at P12.79 trillion as of June 2022.)
''At solong utang po ng administrasyong Duterte ay umaabot po sa 6.84 trillion as of June 2022, at nagkaroon ng increase ng 115.1% sa pagkakautang,'' she added.
(During the Duterte administration, the debt solely reached P6.84 trillion as of June 2022 and this showed a 115.1% increase in our debt record.)
The Philippines' debt stood at P12.79 trillion when former President Duterte left office at the end of June, data released by the Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) showed in 2022.
Meanwhile, Castro also said it would be the Vice President's loss if she regretted being teamed up with Marcos in the 2022 national elections.
''So, kung wala pong nakikita ang Bise Presidente na maaaring gawin ng Pangulo, ganiyan po talaga ang mangyayari kapag po hindi binubukas ang isipan at ang mata at ang puso para sa taumbayan,'' Castro said.
(If she sees nothing with the actions of the President, it's really like that if she doesn't have an open mind, eyes, and heart for the public.)
''So, kung hindi po talaga siya makikinig at hindi niya po titingnan ang mga records na nangyayari sa gobyerno, wala po talaga siyang malalaman,'' she added.
(If she won't listen and she won't check the records on what's happening in the government, she will not learn anything.)
Duterte made scathing remarks about his former Uniteam partner, saying that he had given conflicting statements, following his comments that he '[chose] not to' influence the impeachment courts.
She also confirmed her office's statement that she has no intention of attending Marcos' State of the Nation Address next month, saying Marcos would not be 'providing anything substantial about [the] country.'—LDF, GMA Integrated News

Sara Duterte's lawyers file comment on House impeachment MR
The defense team of Vice President Sara Duterte has submitted a comment regarding the motion for reconsideration filed by the House of Representatives before the Supreme Court (SC) to reverse its decision junking the impeachment case. This was confirmed by Atty. Michael Poa, noting that the comment or opposition of Duterte's defense team was filed before the SC on Monday afternoon. 'In deference to the sub judice rule and out of respect for the judicial process, we will not be granting media interviews or issuing further statements at this time,' Poa told reporters. GMA News Online is trying to secure a copy of the defense's comment/opposition and will update this story once available. To recall, the high court declared the articles of impeachment against Duterte unconstitutional, stressing that it is barred by the one-year rule under the Constitution and that it violates her right to due process. The SC, however, said it is not absolving Duterte from any of the charges against her and that any subsequent impeachment complaint may be filed starting February 6, 2026. The House of Representatives, through the Office of the Solicitor General, filed a motion for reconsideration seeking to reverse the SC decision. The House argued it should be allowed to perform its exclusive duty to prosecute an impeachable official, and the Senate's to try the case. Other motions for reconsideration have also been filed with the SC against its ruling. On August 6, the Senate voted 19-4-1 to transfer to the archives the articles of impeachment against Duterte. The House of Representatives impeached Duterte on February 5, with over 200 lawmakers endorsing the complaint. The Vice President was accused of betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the constitution, graft and corruption, and other high crimes. Duterte, in return, had entered a 'not guilty' plea in the verified impeachment complaint filed against her, which she called merely a 'scrap of paper.' —KG, GMA Integrated News

Duterte camp says ICC violated time limit for probe —VP Sara
The camp of former president Rodrigo Duterte has questioned the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in handling his case, according to Vice President Sara Duterte. The Vice President made the remark during her visit to the Filipino community in Kuwait on Friday. 'Meron po silang finile yung pag-question ng jurisdiction ng korte sa kaso ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte. Simple lang ang sinasabi nila. Nag-imbestiga kayo, lampas na ang isang taon na pwede kayo mag-imbestiga. Dumaan ang isang taon bago kayo nagsimula mag-imbestiga. Kaya hindi na yan puwede,' the Vice President said. (They filed a motion questioning the court's jurisdiction over the case of former President Rodrigo Duterte. What they're saying is simple: You conducted an investigation, but it was beyond the one-year period allowed for you to do so. A year had already passed before you even began investigating. So now, it's no longer valid.) The Duterte elder was arrested in the Philippines by local authorities on March 11 on charges of crimes against humanity for his deadly war on drugs when he was mayor of Davao City and when he was president of the Philippines. He is currently detained in the Scheveningen Prison in The Hague. Government records showed that there were over 6,000 drug suspects killed in police operations during the previous administration's drug war. Human rights organizations, however, said that the death toll may have reached 30,000 due to unreported incidents. The Vice President also said that if there is no period of investigation, the accused could be probed for his entire life. TIMELINE: The Philippines and the ICC Earlier this month, the elder Duterte's defense team asked the Appeals Chamber of the ICC to disqualify Prosecutor Karim Khan from the case on the grounds that he "failed to disclose a grievous conflict of interest." In July, the ICC granted Duterte's request to suspend the tribunal's decision on his request for interim release until his defense lawyers have collated all the needed supporting information. 'Nahanap yun ng mga abogado ni dating Pangulong Duterte at nag-file sila ng request for interim release lalong-lalo na dahil sa kanyang edad na 80 years old,' the Vice President said, referring to the country for his father's interim release. (Former President Duterte's lawyers identified the country and filed a request for interim release, especially considering he is 80 years old.) However, the younger Duterte did not reveal the country during her speech. Rogrido's condition The younger Duterte also said her father is in good condition but has gotten thinner. 'Ito yung mga pinakapayat niya na nakita ko sa buong buhay ko,' the Vice President said. 'Binabantayan ang kanyang kinakain at binabantayan ang kanyang timbang ng doktor. Kaya ako naman, tiwala ako sa doktor na kapag sinabi ng doktor, okay lang yan, ay okay lang yan,' she added. (This is the thinnest I've ever seen him in my entire life. The doctor is monitoring what he eats and keeping track of his weight. I trust the doctor, so if he says he's okay, then he's okay.) — BM, GMA Integrated News
