‘Hydro ganja' a major challenge: CM
Speaking in the legislative council on Thursday, Fadnavis said, five days ago, two Indonesian nationals were arrested with 21kg of hydroponic ganja valued at ₹21.55 crore in Mumbai.
Hydroponic ganja refers to cannabis plants grown without soil. This method gives growers precise control over the plant's environment, which can result in quicker growth and higher yields.
While the drug is being sold on the dark web, dealers are also shipping it via courier services, and concealing it in cargo consignments coming in via the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and ports in Gujarat. Even terminal cancer patients are being used as drug carriers, he said.
Fadnavis said police have instructed all postal and courier companies to closely inspect consignments, to avoid being named as accused in case of a lapse. Joint task forces will monitor social media and the dark net.
Fadnavis said the FDA could play a big role in controlling the drug. 'In rural areas, Codeine is consumed. We have instructed all pharmacies to install CCTVs. Also, the drug must be sold only against prescriptions,'' he said.
Highlighting the role of social media in trafficking hydro ganja, the chief minister said messages are exchanged to sell the substance and to make payments. 'Our cyber cell has pinpointed 15 places on the dark web and arrested people.'
Fadnavis also shared details on drug kingpin Naveen Chichkar, who was deported from Malaysia to India in May. He said Chichkar, who had bought an island in Australia, had sent drugs from Thailand to India via courier.

After the decision, the government also issued orders to start the election process for 29 municipal corporations, including Mumbai's civic body- Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Speaking about Mumbai, Mr. Fadnavis asserted that people have already decided in their heart that the Mayor of Mumbai will be of Mahayuti, adding, 'Whether Thackeray brothers contest unitedly or independently doesn't matter.' Maha govt issues guidelines to curb misuse of social media by babus
Nagpur: Govt employees who flaunt office paraphernalia to post reels, and garner likes and views in large numbers, now need to carefully read the latest circular issued by state govt regarding use of social media. The general administration department (GAD) has for the first time asked employees not to use official assets (vehicle, office building etc) for personal social media posts. This circular comes after MLC Parinay Fuke, a trusted aide of CM Devendra Fadnavis, raised this issue in the winter session of legislature, saying that official status is being used for personal branding by govt employees. Later, in May, he followed up with the govt, demanding that directives be issued at the earliest. Speaking to TOI on Monday, Fuke said, "You can't swagger on like a Singham in uniform while on official duty, and post reels with slickly edited videos and music. I welcome the govt's latest circular which now draws a line between official and personal social media presence." The circular, issued under the Maharashtra Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1979, warns that violations could attract disciplinary action. The directive also states that while posting content related to some official work, the posts must not appear to be 'praising own self'. The guidelines caution staffers against forwarding unverified messages and reiterate that breaches will be treated as misconduct. For official communication, departments have been instructed to rely only on authorized messaging platforms.

Devendra Fadnavis: BJP wants to contest civic polls under Mahayuti alliance
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said that the BJP wants to contest the local body polls under Mahayuti alliance with its partners Shiv Sena and NCP but in seats where it is not possible, the allies 'should not work against each other'. Fadnavis was speaking to mediapersons in Wardha after a meeting with BJP office-bearers and local leaders to assess the preparations for civic polls, which is expected to be held later this year. 'The BJP wants to contest the local body elections with alliance partners (Shiv Sena and NCP) under Mahayuti banner. Wherever this is not possible for local reasons we will have a friendly fight,' he said. 'Ideally since we are a coalition government, we would like to continue the contest as Mahayuti. But wherever we do not contest under an alliance, we should ensure there is no bitterness and nobody works against each other,' the BJP leader added. Fadnavis also expressed confidence over the alliance winning the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, claiming that the next mayor of Mumbai will be from Mahayuti. 'The next mayor in Mumbai will be from Mahayuti. It does not matter whether Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS come together or fight separately. One thing is very clear that Mahayuti will win the elections in BMC and also have its Mayor in Mumbai,' he said.
