Karnataka BJP chief says Amit Shah asked party to fight Congress ‘corruption'
BJP state president BY Vijayendra on Friday said Union Home Minister Amit Shah has advised the Karnataka unit of the BJP to intensify its opposition to the Congress-led state government, calling for a more aggressive stand against what the party terms as 'corruption' and 'appeasement politics'.Vijayendra said Shah, who was in Bengaluru to inaugurate the Adichunchanagiri University campus and BGS Medical College and Hospital, held a key meeting with senior state leaders including former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Leader of Opposition R Ashoka, and MLA Aravind Bellad.advertisement'We discussed the political scenario in Karnataka and the current developments. The BJP leader accused the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government of making policy decisions purely to appease minority communities. He cited the recent move to increase housing scheme reservations for minorities from 10 to 15 per cent as an example. 'This is divisive politics,' he said. 'While Prime Minister Modi ensures justice for all with his 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas' vision, CM Siddaramaiah is demeaning the dignity of his position.'Vijayendra also described the state government as a 'Tughlaq Darbar', alleging that Siddaramaiah has forgotten his responsibilities as an elected leader. Jaipur: Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday said Congress is in favour of Hindi but English opens new avenues in the world for everyone. Mr Gehlot's comments came a day after Home Minister Amit Shah's reported remarks on English. "Congress Party, Rahul Gandhi and all of us are also in favour of Hindi but English is an international language which opens new avenues in the world for everyone," Mr Gehlot said in a post on X. The previous Congress government in Rajasthan established about 3700 Mahatma Gandhi English medium schools to promote education in English among the poor and middle class and rural areas. Due to this decision, about 6.50 lakh students started receiving education in English, he said. The Congress leader added, "The BJP government in the state tried to close these English medium schools but could not take such a step due to their popularity among the public."

Won't share Indus waters with other states: Omar
JAMMU: Days after Union home minister Amit Shah declared that Indus waters will be taken to Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar through canals within three years, J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah on Friday opposed sharing such flows with other states. 'I will never allow this (divert water from J&K to other states). Let's use our water for ourselves first,' Omar said when asked about the Centre's proposal for a 113-km canal to redirect surplus waters from Indus, Jhelum and Chenab to Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. Shah had announced the canal plan in Madhya Pradesh's Pachmarhi on June 14 against the backdrop of the Centre putting Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan 'in abeyance' in the aftermath of the April 22 Pahalgam attack. Speaking on the sidelines of an outreach office's inauguration in Jammu on Friday, Omar made it clear that he would not allow any proposal to build a canal and divert surplus water to other states. 'I am not going to give approval. Let us be allowed to use our water first, then we will talk about others,' the J&K chief minister said. Asked if his govt would move Supreme Court to have J&K's statehood restored, Omar expressed hope that PM Narendra Modi and the Centre would stand by their commitment on such a move. 'Will see whether we have to go legally or not for statehood but till then, we are waiting for the Prime Minister and home minister (Shah) as they have assured that statehood will be restored,' the CM said.
