Rodri admits he faces long road back to his best after injury
The Ballon d'Or-winning midfielder missed most of the 2024-25 season after suffering a serious knee injury last September.
He returned to action only last month with a seven-minute run-out in City's penultimate Premier League game against Bournemouth.
His comeback continued with two substitute appearances in the opening two matches at the Club World Cup, against Wydad Casablanca and Al Ain, but Rodri feels he is a long way short of peak fitness.
The Spain international said: 'I feel very good and very happy to be here. It's an amazing tournament to start again to play football. I'm really excited to join the team again.
'I feel very, very strong, to be honest. The (recovery) process was long, but I was taking my time.
'The most important thing was to keep focused and be strong, not be sad or whatever.
'One day I would come back and this day has finally come. I know it's still going to be months until I reach my level but I'm so happy.'
Prior to sustaining his injury, Rodri had expressed concern about the number of games players at the top level were being asked to play.
He even suggested players could strike if their fears over burnout were not listened to.
He was discussing the matter in relation to the expanded Champions League group phase, but the issue has also been one of the chief criticisms aimed at the Club World Cup.
'I think we are close to that,' the 29-year-old said. 'If it keeps this way, (there) will be a moment that we have no other option, but let's see.'
If that is still his opinion now, he is keeping it to himself.
'Listen, it's not my decision,' he said. 'I'm here and excited to play.
'Maybe if this tournament doesn't happen, I would be on holiday but for me, individually, it's a great opportunity to come back at the highest level and play a tournament we never played.
'The idea is amazing, honestly. I think we're excited.'

"I think we've seen when he went there, he had some great times there as well. I was devastated, I would've really like him to stay longer and continue to play with him." Rooney also named Tevez as his "favourite strike partner to play alongside", claiming that most defenders "hated playing against the two of us". Rooney added: "When Carlos joined Manchester United, there was a lot of talk about whether Carlos and I could play up front together. "I was really excited when we signed him. We were similar in ways how we played - both worked hard and could both play as a nine, both play off the forward as well. We had a really good understanding and chemistry on the pitch, off the pitch. "I used to pick him up to take him to the airport before Champions League games. It was interesting actually because we couldn't really have a conversation. I think his English was better than he let on. "He's a player you'd always want on your team and he scored some great goals for us, at big moments for us as well. Two years at Manchester United - two league titles, the Champions League... he was a massive part of that. "I think Carlos was my favourite strike partner to play alongside. Most defenders we played actually hated playing against the two of us and we could feel that. We knew we were nasty as well. Very instinctive, intense, off the cuff. Anything could happen at any moment."

Newcastle join Rashford race Newcastle are showing strong interest in Rashford this summer with Caught Offside claiming the Magpies are making 'serious moves' to sign him as they look to bolster their squad ahead of another season in the Champions League. Rashford had been eyeing up a move for Barcelona, but that may fail to materialise as they consider other options. Newcastle are keen on ex-United man Antony Elanga but if they can't secure the Nottingham Forest winger then Rashford is on their radar. Eddie Howe would keen on a loan deal for Rashford, but that may be the sticking point with Manchester bosses wanting an end to the saga. As a result they may seek a permanent exit rather than another loan - leaving them to deal with a similar situation in 12 months time. Nkunku exit update Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has opened the door for Christopher Nkunku to leave the club this summer with those on the red side of Manchester said to be interested in the forward as they eye more options in the final third. Nkunku has struggled for regular game time since joining the Blues from RB Leipzig two years ago and when asked about the player's future, Maresca said: "If Christo is here with us, it is because we think he can help us and he can be with us even next season. But as you said, there are many speculations, not just about Christo, about many players. "And then if something is going to happen, I don't know because we said many times when the transfer window is open, anything can happen in terms of players that can arrive or players that can leave." Inter remain keen on Hojlund Gazzetta dello Sport claim Inter Milan are in constant contact with the Red Devils regarding a potential move for Rasmus Hojlund this summer. The Dane struggled in front of goal last season and United could cash in on the 22-year-old, which could help fund their summer business. Inter are closing in on a deal to sign Parma's Ange-Yoan Bonny, but the Champions League finalists are still ready to go after Hojlund.
