Clarendon Hills is heading to the Little League World Series
The village of Clarendon Hills is celebrating after their Little League team won the Great Lakes Regional Final and is now on their way to the Little League World Series. Through every cheer and every tense moment of Wednesday night's game between Illinois and Ohio, Donna Mittlestadt watched at the Open Door Taproom and Bottle Shop with what felt like the rest of the Clarendon Hills community. "My son, one of my three sons played little league here in Clarendon Hills. And we have a little cousin who is on the team, Luka," she said. Family, friends, even the players' fifth grade teachers Julie Hafner and Lynn Marquardt came out to support the team in this make-or-break showdown. "Even getting to this championship game after losing to Ohio on Monday, I just want to show them who we are," Hafner said. Parents at the game in Indiana said the boys have put so much hard work to get to this point. They cannot thank their coaches and manager Brian Herold enough. "For the kids this is another game, for the coaches and parents this is nerve wracking," Herold said. Herold said his players have been facing teams who come from big cities with populations around 300,000. Clarendon Hills has a population of 9,000, so to find 12 talented young men has been a blessing, he said. "We knew we could end up in the championship game, so we preserved some of our pitchers. And it was a lopsided game, so I think based on the lopsided result they think they have us tonight," he said. And he was right. A bottom of the sixth strike out sealed the deal. Illinois beat Ohio 9 to 4. "Anytime something like this happens everyone in Clarendon Hills just rallies together," Hafner said. The Clarendon Hills team now heads to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the birthplace of Little League baseball. They leave at 7 a.m., and this community will be right back here, cheering for them all the way. The Little League team in Elmhurst went to the World Series in 2023 but did not win. The team will spend 10 days practicing twice a day until they play.

Countdown to Kickoff: Jack Endries
This is the addition that gets the Texas fans as excited as any this offseason. Gunnar Helm was a really important piece to the Texas offense a year ago and replacing him with Jack Endries keeps that incredible ability at the TE position. Endries is coming off a year where he was the leading receiver on the Cal Golden Bears. He came over the spring portal window and filled a rather big hole at the TE position. 2024 Stats: 56 catches, 623 yards(11.1 yards/catch), 2 TDs Endries is a player that really resembles Gunnar Helm in his play style and ability. He does most of his damage over the middle of the field, something that Sarkisian loves to use with his TEs. He also is a plus blocker in pass pro and in the run game. He can be a true chess piece in this Texas offense, but the upside is incredible. His athletic ability jumps off the page immediately, and it seems that is showing itself throughout the early parts of camp. He comes into a room where he will be the TE1 without question and will be given opportunity after opportunity in this offense, going into a year where he could make plenty of NFL money. Given Sarkisian's track record with TEs, it's likely Endries will have his best year yet this year. The versatility that Endries can bring to the offense might be even greater than what Helm gave Texas a year ago. He has great hands, can line up just about anywhere and can make plays after the catch. That was a true strength of Gunnar Helm's game, and I think Longhorn fans will see plenty more of that this year. The question is his deep route ability, but it seems much of that is more Cal's offense than anything else. He will get his changes for those seam shots Helm got last year. He opens the year with the second best odds to win the John Mackey Award, in a year where the TE position is incredibly talented. Eli Stowers, RJ Maryland, Max Klare and more will have a footprint on this season, but Endries could very well be the most productive of the bunch. The biggest part of his role this season is the leadership he will provide to a talented, but young room. Jordan Washington, Spencer Shannon, Nick Townsend and more will factor in, but getting guidance from a more experienced player will be huge for their development. It also gives Texas some flexibility at the position, knowing they have a reliable option in their back pocket at all times. Endries and Mosley were the two pass catchers Texas went out and got in the portal and I think they are both perfect fits. They both should be guys that can make big time plays consistently for the Longhorns, including in Week 1 vs. Ohio State. Continuing with the countdown tomorrow, I will jump into the freshman pass catching options for the Horns. World's best golfers continue to prep for Playoff opener at Southwind
MEMPHIS — He has arrived. World number one and a two-time major winner this year, Scottie Scheffler, the favorite at this week's FedEx St. Jude Championship, is one of the 69 golfers who have arrived in Memphis for the start of the FedEx Cup playoffs. Names like Viktor Hovland, former Open Champion Brian Harman and Sam Burns, who was in the hunt at Southwind a year ago, finishing in a tie for fifth, all spent their Tuesday getting a look at the new look greens. The practice and preparation continues during Wednesday's Pro-Am before the swings start to count as FESJC tees off on Thursday. Every golfer in the field knows what it means to simply be able to tee it up in Memphis this week. 'It's always where you want to be. The start the FedEx Cup playoffs. I'm in good position heading into this year and really excited to be back here,' said Corey Connors. 'Love this golf course. So it's where you want to be.' 'Yeah, it's always exciting to come back here. It means you've had a good year and you got a chance to win the FedEx Cup,' Burns said. 'So it's always a good place to be.' Sunday's winner earns the $3.6 million-dollar first place prize. Part of the $20 million dollar purse at the FESJC. More important than the money, the Top 50 players after Memphis move on to round two of the FedEx Cup playoffs next week at the BMW Championships in Owings Mills, Maryland.
