Gameweeks & Transfers explained: New rollover process and other important information for Dream Team bosses

The Sun6 days ago
DREAM TEAM managers set to embark on the 2025/26 season should familiarise themselves with the processes regarding Gameweeks and transfers.
Here's everything you need to know about these key elements of the game.
3
GAMEWEEKS
The season is divided up into Gameweeks, with each one acting as a scoring period.
You will need to make sure your team is set up for the upcoming Gameweek prior to the deadline, which typically falls 90 minutes before the first fixture (usually Friday night or Saturday lunchtime).
However, the first deadline of the season is 8pm on August 15th to coincide with kick-off between Liverpool and Bournemouth, the season's curtain-raiser.
Prior to each deadline, you will need to confirm any transfers you wish to make, select your captain (and vice captain), and activate any Boosters you wish to play.
Please be aware that any changes made after the deadline won't go through until the following Gameweek (Substitute exceptions aside).
Frequently, teams will play twice within the same Gameweek.
For example, there will be several Gameweeks that accommodate the usual Premier League games plus a full round of European fixtures.
Expect plenty of double Gameweeks for the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, Newcastle, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace AND Nottingham Forest.
More fixtures equals more point-scoring opportunities and so it's often wise to tailor your XI with a view to targeting these juicy double headers.
The upcoming Gameweek deadline is displayed in app and on site and the fixtures for each Gameweek can be viewed in the Match Centre.

TRANSFERS
Once the season is underway, you will need to make transfers to react to the unfolding drama using your available budget.
Whether you're ditching injured/suspended players or replacing under-performing flops with in-form gems, transfers will keep your team fresh.
Prior to the start of the season, you can make as many transfers as you like so feel free to experiment with various formations, combinations etc.
Once the action begins, you will have two transfers available per Gameweek.
If you decide not to make a transfer (a perfectly good decision in certain scenarios) then both transfers will roll over to the following Gameweek.
Similarly, if you decide to make just one transfer then your unused one will carry over, giving you three the following Gameweek.
However, there is a limit to the number of transfers you can roll over - the maximum available at any one time is six.
3
Deciding when to make changes and when to bank transfers is a crucial strategic element.
Sometimes it pays to target short-term gains but other times you will need to plan ahead for long-term success.
Transfers can be reversed any time before the deadline without cost.
We'll be on hand every week with transfer suggestions as well as other tips that should help guide your approach.

Forward Ekitike joins Liverpool from Frankfurt

July 23 (Reuters) - Liverpool have signed French striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, the Premier League side announced on Wednesday, with media reports saying the deal was worth 69 million pounds ($93.65 million) plus add-ons. Ekitike is Liverpool's second-most expensive recruit in the close season after the Premier League champions signed Germany midfielder Florian Wirtz, who can also play as winger or forward, in June for a club-record 100 million pounds plus add-ons. "The 23-year-old has successfully completed a medical and agreed personal terms with the Reds, allowing him to fly out to Hong Kong to join his new teammates on their pre-season tour of Asia later this week," Liverpool said in a statement. Former Paris St Germain player Ekitike had a breakout campaign in 2024-25, scoring 15 Bundesliga goals in 33 appearances. He also struck four times as Frankfurt reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League. Ekitike, who made his senior debut at Stade de Reims, joined PSG on loan in 2022, making 25 Ligue 1 appearances as they won the French top-flight. He went on loan to Frankfurt in 2023, before making the move permanent a year later. "It's a strong story for him and Eintracht Frankfurt that he's moving to one of Europe's top teams with the greatest ambitions and opportunities," Frankfurt Sporting Director Markus Kroesche said in a statement. "Hugo has earned this move, and it shows that we are capable of offering players a great prospect." Liverpool begin their Premier League title defence at home against Bournemouth on August 15. Liverpool announce Hugo Ekitike signing from Eintracht Frankfurt

Liverpool have announced that they have agreed a deal to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, subject to international clearance. The Premier League champions will pay an initial fee of £69million – plus £10m in add-ons – for Ekitike, who scored 22 goals in 48 games for Eintracht last season. Though Liverpool held talks over a possible deal for Alexander Isak earlier this month, Newcastle made it clear the Sweden international was not for sale unless they received an astronomical offer for their prized possession. The Reds have confirmed that Ekitike successfully completed his medical and will jet out to Hong King to join his new team-mates on their pre-season tour of Asia later this week. Ekitike's squad number will be revealed later this summer. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Marcus Rashford says Barcelona ‘feels like home' after completing loan move

Marcus Rashford said Barcelona 'feels like home' after joining the LaLiga champions on loan as he refused to criticise Manchester United. Rashford has become the first of United's five wantaway players to find a way out of Old Trafford, landing the move he has desired since January when he instead joined Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season. Barca's agreement includes an option to make the deal permanent. That clause is reported to be 35million euros (£30.3million) and PA understands the deal sees Barcelona cover Rashford's wages for the campaign. 'I want to win the biggest trophies and feel like Barcelona is a huge club in the football world so it is the perfect place,' Rashford said in a press conference. 'You see with the team last season, they have a young ambitious team and I want to add my qualities, my personality, improve the team and help them win… '(It was) not difficult. I was clear on my preference from the beginning. Actually from maybe in January. It didn't work out in January so I went to Aston Villa and enjoyed a good period there. I'm very grateful for the opportunity to play there. 'The summer came around very quickly, it was time to make another decision. My choice was easy. It's a family club, something I'm used to from my past. 'It feels like home. I feel I made the right decision. I'm excited to get going and eager to play the first game in front of the fans.' The 27-year-old came through the ranks at United but has not added to his 426 first-team appearances for the club since being hauled off in a Europa League match away to Viktoria Plzen on December 12. Along with Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia, Rashford had been training away from Ruben Amorim's first-team squad since pre-season began as they explored their options in the transfer market. Asked about United during his unveiling in Barcelona, Rashford said: 'The situation with United is the club is in a period of change and they have been for a while. I don't have anything bad to say about Manchester United as it has been an important part not only in my career but my life. 'I was grateful for the opportunity to play for them. But football is like life – not everything goes as simply as you thought and this is my next chapter. I'm fully focused on this and trying to improve myself and helping the team win trophies. 'I don't have anything bad to say about United. I wish them all the best and hope they are successful in the future.' Rashford departs 23rd in United's all-time appearance list and as their 15th-highest scorer with 138 goals, having notched a brace on his February 2016 debut against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League. He won five major trophies with his boyhood club and was crowned their player of the year in 2022-23 after scoring a career-high 30 goals, which saw him rewarded with a reported £325,000-a-week deal until 2028. The Premier League club said: 'Everyone at Manchester United wishes Marcus good luck for the season.' Rashford, who scored 17 goals in 62 England appearances, will hope the move boosts his chances of going to next summer's World Cup.
