Wynne Evans announces new venture in home town of Carmarthen following BBC exit
Following a turbulent time, Welsh opera star Wynne Evans has announced a new project in the town of his birth
After a year of upheaval, which included being dropped from the BBC and the Strictly Come Dancing live tour, Wynne Evans has revealed an exciting new venture.
The 53-year-old opera singer, widely recognised for his powerful voice in the GoCompare adverts, is set to open a restaurant in his native Carmarthen. He's teased that visitors can expect "MasterChef dishes on the menu".

Taking to Instagram, Wynne shared with his followers: "Hello, Wynne here. This is my hometown of Carmarthen. It is ever-changing and one thing that is changing is the Welsh House. It's going to become the Welsh House by Wynne."

He continued: "I promise you it will have MasterChef dishes on the menu, it's going to have a fabulous warm welcome and I want you to come and see me, OK? It's going to be the home of the radio show too. So I'll see you soon. I'd better get cooking."
It is believed that Wynne has secured the Welsh House venue in Carmarthen's town centre, aiming to leverage his recent MasterChef victory.
A source told The Sun: "It's a prime location in the centre of Carmarthen. He is trying to capitalise on his MasterChef win apparently."

This development follows a challenging period for Wynne, who parted ways with the BBC and faced controversy after being removed from the Strictly Come Dancing live tour earlier this year, despite clinching the Celebrity MasterChef title in 2023, reports the Mirror.
He made a comment that was considered sexually inappropriate during a photocall, which triggered a four-month investigation by the BBC into his conduct.

Wynne, who appeared on Strictly last year alongside dance partner Katya Jones, 36, had previously been compelled to issue an apology during his stint on the programme following an incident where he was photographed with his hand positioned on Katya's waist, which she subsequently moved away. Both parties later explained to supporters that it had been an inside joke between them.

Whilst on tour, he encountered additional criticism for "inappropriate and unacceptable" language in an exchange with presenter Janette Manrara.

Following the controversy, Wynne withdrew from both the tour and his BBC Radio Wales programme, stating at the time: "I've agreed with the BBC that I'll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly Live tour, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing. I am deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate actions have caused, and plan to take this time for self-reflection."

Last month, Wynne announced his departure from BBC Radio Wales, as the station chose not to renew his contract. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to his supporters, stating: "From the very depths of my heart - thank you. These past few months, your love has been the light in my darkest days. Every message, every word of encouragement, every moment you stood by me has carried me through more than you could ever know."

He continued with a heavy heart: "It breaks my heart to say the BBC has decided not to renew my contract so I won't be returning to my radio show. I'm gutted. That show wasn't just work-it was home. It was us. We laughed, we cried, we sang like nobody was listening. And somehow, through the airwaves, we became a family."
Despite this setback, Wynne is eager to remain on the air and shared his plans for an independent venture. He said: "But here's what I believe with everything I've got: what we built cannot end here. So - deep breath - here goes... We're getting the band back together."
He revealed the details of his new project: "The Wynne Evans Show is coming back, live every day from 9am - 12pm on a new app, on Alexa and Google (we don't have to say 'smart speaker' anymore! ) and at www.wynneevansshow.co.uk. This is our next adventure. And I need you more than ever. We will have great music, my question of the day, the mystery voice, your soundtrack stories and so much more, because we have each other again."

BBC Two Doors Down confirms Christmas Special on the way with new cast photo

Two Doors Down was axed following the tragic death of the show's creator Simon Carlyle in 2023. The BBC has confirmed that a Two Doors Down Christmas Special is on the way, just a couple of months after one of the stars teased its shock comeback. The Scottish comedy favourite is poised for a festive return this year. ‌ The news comes after the tragic passing of the programme's creator, Simon Carlyle, at just 48 years old. The programme was axed in 2023 following Simon's death, but rumours had been swirling about a revisit. ‌ Simon's writing partner Gregor Sharp initially said he felt unable to continue the series without Simon's creative contribution. However, both the cast and devoted viewers were delighted when whispers surfaced suggesting Gregor had reconsidered and was penning a Christmas episode. ‌ Today, Thursday, July 17, BBC Scotland confirmed the return to Latimer Street by posting a photo of the much-loved cast including Elaine C Smith, Alex Norton, Jonathan Watson, and Arabella Weir reuniting for a festive episode. Kieran Hodgson, 37, who portrays Gordon, previously told the Record: "The first day on set without Simon will be tough for everyone. He was such an integral part of the filming let alone the writing. He was there every day all day. ‌ "He was our friend. He was giving us notes. He was supervising it and guiding it. "Not to have him there will be really ghostly and I can imagine there will be some tears and some moments of silence." Two Doors Down began as a standalone Hogmanay pilot in 2013, before taking three years to reach its first complete series on BBC2 in 2016. ‌ The narrative revolves around Alex Norton and Arabella Weir as Eric and Beth Baird, their son Ian (Jamie Quinn) with his partner Gordon, portrayed by Kieran, and their eclectic Latimer Crescent neighbours. This includes the forthright Christine (Elaine C Smith), the tempestuous Cathy and Colin (Doon Mackichan and Jonathan Watson), and the semi-newcomers Alan and Michelle, played by Grado and Joy McAvoy. ‌ The series, which featured six seasons and four Christmas specials on BBC2, finally struck gold when BBC bosses decided to move it to BBC1 in 2022 for a festive special. Tragically, Simon passed away in August 2023, just before the seventh series, which he had filmed, aired that November, missing the show's triumphant transition to prime time. "It's lovely that Gregor feels he can write it now," Gordon added. "I'm sure it'll be just as brilliant as it ever was." ‌ With the comeback official, anticipation is growing among viewers as to what adventures await the group when they reunite to shoot the Christmas Special . Some have already taken to social media to share their predictions. But don't worry, we don't believe in any potential spoilers. ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham cryptically post lyrics, prompting landslide of reactions from fans

Hope (silver) springs eternal. Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham posted matching excerpts from their 1973 song 'Frozen Love' on Thursday, prompting speculation among fans that something more may be coming. Nicks, who is scheduled to begin a solo U.S. tour in August, shared on X a white background image with black cursive text that read, 'And if you go forward …' About an hour later, Buckingham posted the lyric's second half: 'I'll meet you there.' The lyric is the final line of 'Frozen Love,' a track from 'Buckingham Nicks,' the only album the two released as a duo before joining Fleetwood Mac in 1975. Nicks and Buckingham — and more pointedly their tumultuous personal relationship — remain a pop culture symbol of intense romance followed by even more intense heartbreak, fueled in part by a live performance of 'Silver Springs' that has remained a fixture online. The pair had a complicated personal and professional history — both as former romantic partners and as bandmates. Their arrival in Fleetwood Mac in the 1970s helped usher the band's most commercially successful era, but Buckingham was dismissed from the band in 2018, and the pair have not performed together since. The apparently coordinated nature of the posts, which came just one day after Mick Fleetwood shared an Instagram video of himself listening to 'Frozen Love,' raised questions about whether the former bandmates might be planning something together. In the video, Fleetwood removes his headphones and calls the song 'unbelievable.' 'The marriage of Stevie and Lindsey, the marriage of coming into Fleetwood Mac when they did, it's all in this song,' he said. 'It was magic then, it's magic now.' Buckingham and Nicks both liked Fleetwood's post and recently began following each other on Instagram — a change noticed by fans who flooded the comments of both musicians' posts asking if a reunion was in the works. As of Thursday afternoon, neither Nicks nor Buckingham had commented further on the posts. Nicks confirmed that singer and keyboardist Christine McVie's death in 2019 meant the end of Fleetwood Mac.
