Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said a team from the Anti-Vice, Gambling, and Secret Societies Division (D7) of the state police headquarters' (IPK) Criminal Investigation Department (CID) apprehended all the suspects, aged between 40 and 70, who are believed to be members of a syndicate. 'Police also seized various items, including computers, mobile phones, 10 lottery slips, and cash totalling RM110,119,' he said in a press conference at the Perak IPK here today. Syndicate prostituting teens, including Form 2 girls, busted

KENINGAU: A human trafficking syndicate that exploited secondary school students for sex work has been dismantled following a series of special operations carried out between July 24 and 29. Keningau district police chief Superintendent Yampil Anak Garai said investigations revealed that the syndicate had recruited teenage girls — including two Form Two students — to be prostituted to clients. "The operation was launched after the victims' parents lodged a report on July 24. "Following this, a team from the Keningau district Criminal Investigation Department rescued four victims aged between 13 and 21, and arrested eight individuals to assist in the investigation," he said when contacted today. One of the suspects, an 18-year-old girl known as "Elly," believed to have acted as the "madam," has already been charged in court under Section 14 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007. Yampil said the syndicate used social media platforms to find clients, charging around RM200 per session. The victims were then sent to pre-arranged hotels, and the earnings were split between the suspect and the victim. "All victims were taken to Keningau Hospital for medical checks and placed at a shelter for women and children. "For the two underage victims, the court approved a three-month protection order, and they have been placed at the Ampang Shelter in Selangor until Nov 13," he added.

Kota Kinabalu: A 22-year-old was fined RM25 or jailed three days by the Magistrate's Court here for peeping at a woman in a public toilet at a shopping mall last week. Terence Thien pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to entering the women's toilet on the lower floor of Star City, Asia City, and causing distress to a 25-year-old woman at around 6pm on Aug 7. The offence falls under Section 8(1)(e) of the Minor Offences Ordinance of Sabah, which carries a fine of RM25 or imprisonment of up to one week, on conviction. According to prosecution, the complainant was inside a cubicle when she noticed someone standing outside her door, with only a pair of feet visible. When she stepped out, she saw Thien running from the toilet. Although she tried to chase him, she was unsuccessful. The complainant then reviewed CCTV footage at the building's control room, which confirmed Thien's entry and exit from the women's toilet. About 20 minutes later, she spotted Thien on the first floor, brought him back to the CCTV room for identification, and subsequently contacted the police, leading to his arrest. In a separate case, 22-year-old Dayang Nurasymira was ordered to pay a fine of RM1,500 or face one month's imprisonment for engaging in online gambling in public. Dayang admitted to the offence committed at a coffee shop in Taman Nelly, Kolombong, on July 22 at 630pm. She was charged under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to six months, or both. During a police raid at the location, Dayang was arrested. An expert report confirmed that the equipment seized was used for online gambling. Inspector Yusdi Basri prosecuted the case. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
