WWE Has Considered Giving Top Star Another Title: Report

The partnership between WWE and Lucha Libre AAA could be about to reach a new level. A new report suggests that WWE is considering having one of its top heels, Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio, win the prestigious AAA Mega Championship.
According to a new report from WrestleVotes, the idea of Mysterio capturing AAA's top prize has been discussed within WWE. The move would make him a dual champion across two major promotions.
A "Dirty Dom" Championship Reign in Mexico?
Dominik Mysterio is already scheduled to compete for the AAA Mega Championship at the upcoming Triplemania XXXIII event in August. He will be part of a four-way match against the current champion, Hijo del Vikingo, and fellow WWE superstars Dragon Lee and El Grande Americano.
The new report from WrestleVotes indicates that WWE is considering having Mysterio win that match. This would be the most significant development in the WWE-AAA partnership since WWE's acquisition of the legendary lucha libre promotion was announced during WrestleMania weekend.

Rejecting a Legacy, Claiming a Kingdom
A victory for "Dirty Dom" in AAA would be the ultimate act of defiance for his character. Since his shocking heel turn on his legendary father, Rey Mysterio, Dominik's entire persona has been built on rejecting his family's beloved legacy. While his father is arguably the greatest luchador of all time, Dominik has mocked lucha libre traditions and has become one of the most hated villains in WWE.
After making a surprise appearance at a recent AAA event to a massive ovation, Mysterio declared his intention to win the Mega Title and become the new "King of the Luchadores." For him to potentially achieve this by defeating a revered champion like Hijo del Vikingo would be a massive storyline development.

A New Era for a Storied Title
The AAA Mega Championship is one of the most prestigious titles in the world outside of WWE. It has been held by a who's who of wrestling legends, including Kenny Omega, who had a record-setting reign with the belt while he was also the AEW World Champion. A reign for a WWE-contracted star like Mysterio would bring even more international attention to the title.
Before he can focus on his ambitions in Mexico, however, Dominik Mysterio has a major title defense this weekend. At SummerSlam, he is scheduled to defend his Intercontinental Championship against "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles.

Report: Details Behind Seth Rollins' SummerSlam Cash-In
Seth Rollins now has two incredibly memorable Money in the Bank cash-ins in his career following Night One of WWE SummerSlam. Following last night's SummerSlam main event that saw CM Punk defeat Gunther to win the World Heavyweight Championship, Seth Rollins made his return to WWE programming by cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase and becoming World Champion once again. There has been much speculation surrounding Rollins' supposed injury following Saturday Night's Main Event last month. We now have more information on the series of events that led to last night's cash-in. According to Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp (via Fightful Select), the entire situation with Rollins was kept incredibly close to the vest. Starting with Saturday Night's Main Event, Rollins was penciled in to win the match against LA Knight. This was done to help the moment come across as legitimate to many people backstage who weren't in the know. Rollins even kept some close to him in the dark who expressed concern to Sapp over the weekend about the injury and not hearing back from him following the incident. Seth appeared backstage on crutches at Evolution the following night to sell the injury. Last night's cash-in wasn't on any of the SummerSlam internal rundowns. And yesterday afternoon, many in the company didn't expect it to happen. As the night went on, Rollins emerged backstage during the main event, and things began to shift. It is also believed that WWE Unreal director Chris Weaver was backstage for this moment. The docuseries is planned for a second season next year. You can bet this entire story will be heavily covered on one of those episodes. Stay tuned to WrestleZone for more information as it becomes available. CM Punk Mocks Seth Rollins and Paul Heyman For ‘Coldplay' Moment At WWE SummerSlam
At least CM Punk found it in himself to crack a joke after Seth Rollins ruined his weekend. Seth Rollins pulled off the 'ruse of the century' on Saturday night, as he returned from a knee 'injury' to cash in his Money In The Bank contract after Punk beat Gunther for the world title. Rollins and Heyman embraced in the ring, with Heyman hugging Rollins around his waist. Now, CM Punk has recovered from the loss long enough to post the following dig at Rollins and Heyman on his Instagram Stories, comparing Heyman's hug to the now-infamous Coldplay concert kiss cam scandal. Punk captioned his post, 'Not baby girl coded. All ham sandwiches.' 'Baby girl coded' is slang for a guy who isn't super masculine, but has characteristics typically associated with femininity, like a 'little spoon' in a relationship. The ham sandwiches line is also a reference to them 'hamming it up' or overacting for the cameras. What happened at the Coldplay concert? The Coldplay concert scandal took place two weeks ago at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts. Former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron was shown on camera cuddling up to his company's head of HR, Kristin Cabot. The problem with that, aside from a potential company policy issue with dating within the workplace, is that Byron is married to another woman. Byron immediately ducked out of the camera frame, and he has since resigned from the company. Coldplay's Chris Martin even joked about the awkward situation, speculating that the couple was having an affair. The incident has resulted in many spoofs since then, including the Philadelphia Phillies Phanatics mascots recreating the moment. It seems possible that Heyman had this in mind when embracing Rollins. However, there's no doubt about the intent of Punk's post. Catch up on everything that went down at WWE SummerSlam on night one (here) and night two (here). Brock Lesnar makes shocking, controversial return at WWE SummerSlam to confront John Cena
Brock Lesnar makes shocking, controversial return at WWE SummerSlam to confront John Cena originally appeared on The Sporting News The 'Beast Incarnate' is officially back in WWE. Nearly two years away from the ring, Brock Lesnar finally made his return at Sunday night's SummerSlam—and he immediately made his presence known. Just before that, John Cena had suffered an emotional defeat against Cody Rhodes in a street fight for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Standing alone in the ring, soaking up the crowd's 'Thank you, Cena' chants and knowing his final run would end with retirement this December, the arena suddenly exploded with energy. Lesnar's music hit. He walked down the ramp wearing his trademark cowboy hat and jeans, locking eyes with Cena. It was a chilling callback to their epic 2012 feud, back when Lesnar returned from the UFC aiming right at WWE's biggest star. He slowly circled the ring without taking his eyes off Cena. The crowd was buzzing, totally into it. 📲 Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp Cena looked shaken—and for good reason. His past had returned to haunt him. Lesnar tipped his hat at ringside, then charged into the ring and slammed Cena with a powerful F-5 right in the center of the mat. The message was clear: Lesnar is back, and he's here to make a statement—not just relive old times. He's here for unfinished business. Cena's farewell tour has already seen a few twists—including a brief heel turn—but he's firmly back in babyface territory. With his rivalry with Rhodes seemingly behind him, it's now Lesnar who stands in his way. If Sunday night was any indication, this could be the final chapter in one of WWE's most iconic rivalries. Lesnar's return hasn't come without some controversy, however. Lesnar's last WWE appearance came at SummerSlam 2023, where he also suffered a loss to Rhodes. Much of his absence was linked to his name popping up in an ongoing lawsuit involving Vince McMahon. Last January, former WWE employee Janel Grant filed a lawsuit accusing McMahon of sex trafficking and abusive sexual acts. Lesnar's name appears in the lawsuit as someone McMahon allegedly offered Grant to for sexual favors. Wrestling Observer Radio's Dave Meltzer reported that WWE's legal team cleared Lesnar about four weeks ago. He speculated that WWE might feel confident the case is heading toward arbitration or nearing a settlement—both scenarios that would reduce Lesnar's legal exposure and clear the path for his return. Putting the controversy aside, there's no question Lesnar's comeback is a huge moment for WWE. With SummerSlam 2026 taking place in Minneapolis—Lesnar's hometown—it's easy to imagine this leading up to a retirement match. If that's the case, we could be witnessing the final run of Cena's career and the last chapter in one of WWE's most memorable rivalries. If Lesnar has his way, Cena's farewell tour might end the same way it just restarted—with an F-5.
